Oo I live this programme, not had a chance to watch it yet!

JaneJeffer · 25/08/2023 19:16

The woman with the choking toddler freaked me out!

Jokesadooooo · 25/08/2023 21:00

This is such a good programme. Very moving.

And the call handler!

It was really really really hard to watch the caller calling about the man who stopped breathing (and eventually died in hospital). The desperation in his voice. Awful. 😓

And really really really hard to hear the caller about the choking. The panic. Thank God it came out.

I even felt panicky and worried for people when it was just the strike days on the programme.

purpleme12 · 27/08/2023 12:42

Oh and I never knew they had the thing that did the CPR on the chest for you! Never seen that before

Toddlerteaplease · 27/08/2023 12:59

The LUCAS?

Toddlerteaplease · 27/08/2023 13:00

London University Cardiac something or other.

rwalker · 27/08/2023 13:36

I just found the general chat very false and scripted

Toddlerteaplease · 27/08/2023 21:10

Felt really sorry for the call handler where the man just wouldn't start CPR or get her on the floor. Must be awful to sit and be able to do nothing.

I thought the way the man was speaking it sounded like he may have had a learning disability.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/08/2023 21:19

@Hellocatshome yes or very elderly. I agree with some of the chats being scripted. Especially the one about the car crash.

purpleme12 · 27/08/2023 21:28

I thought the man was just panicking actually.

Do you mean when the ambulance person said about his sister in law dying in the crash @Toddlerteaplease ?

Toddlerteaplease · 27/08/2023 21:36

@purpleme12 yes. I think there was another thread on here by a paramedic, who said that they don't have conversations like that with the dispatchers.

purpleme12 · 27/08/2023 21:44

I agree that it just seemed rather odd like that

Toddlerteaplease · 27/08/2023 21:55

I think they are really going out of their way to justify the strike action.

So I almost always watch it on BBC iPlayer afterwards and I'm a bit confused, there is episode 1 of the current series (11) which was last week, then there is episode 3 but an episode 2 appears to be missing?

Stickystickystick · 31/08/2023 22:29

im confused about this too. Is the episode 3 on iPlayer the one that was shown tonight?

purpleme12 · 31/08/2023 23:08

Watching now.
The person getting £99 a week on universal credit because he's had surgery ☹️
So scary

purpleme12 · 31/08/2023 23:14

On radio times it says episode 2 but the description of the episode matches 'episode 3' on iPlayer so I'm guessing it should say episode 2 on iPlayer

purpleme12 · 31/08/2023 23:54

I just felt so bad for the woman who called in the middle of the night because she fell and couldn't get up ☹️☹️☹️☹️

It's unfortunately not that uncommon - usually either the patient can't get themselves up because they're hurt, scared to move and/or have poor mobility or they have no-one else that can come and help them up, so they're stuck on the floor waiting for hours for an ambulance to come and help them get up and check them over.

Often at that point they may have developed further complications such as a UTI from holding in their wee because they can't get to a bathroom, or an AKI (acute kidney injury, basically a sudden drop in kidney function) because they have been without water for hours as a result, to name but a few (and that's without other conditions like diabetes that may further complicate matters!).

Obviously it's not the ambulance service's fault that they can't get to these lower priority calls sooner but it still shocks and upsets me when I see how long some patients have been on the floor for before help arrived with them.
