So

S1 ended ITV’s three-episode police drama The Tower ended (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a38189303/itv-the-tower-ending-explained/) with Detective Sergeant Sarah Collins and rookie officer Lizzie Adama standing together at the grave of young Libyan refugee Farah, whose death Lizzie had witnessed and Sarah had been investigating.

Lizzie was not being prosecuted for her role in Farah’s death, and it looked like the one cop who could be charged in relation to the crime – Lizzie’s boss and lover, DI Shaw, who had hidden vital evidence – had frustratingly got away with it.

S2

The series opens with PC Adama returning to Farlow Police Station to be partnered with fellow officer Arif Johar (Michael Karim) by her boss and former lover DI Shaw.

The series begins with Lizzie’s return to Farlow station, where her boss and former lover, DI Kieran Shaw, assigns her to partner with Arif Johar (Michael Karim) to handle a domestic violence case involving Mark Brannon. Mark is accused of assaulting his girlfriend, Georgina Teel, and causing distress to their young daughter Skye.

Lizzie successfully convinces Georgina to speak out about Mark’s actions, leading to his arrest by Lizzie and Arif. However, as the case progresses to the courtroom, Lizzie faces intense cross-examination on the witness stand, putting the case in a precarious position.

Meanwhile, Sarah Collins has transitioned to Homicide Command, led by DCI Jim Fedden, who isn’t particularly welcoming to her.

He tasks her with reopening the cold case of Tania Mills, a schoolgirl who vanished on the same day as Princess Diana’s funeral. Despite the seemingly impossible challenge, Sarah dives into the investigation, uncovering overlooked clues and benefiting from her own experiences as a teenager in 1997, the same age as Tania. As Sarah’s inquiry takes unexpected turns, her path intersects once more with Lizzie’s.

I think that's why the rest of the team always kind of looked down on Elaine, gave her all the shitty jobs and called her names because she doesn't devote her entire life to the police because of her kids. I know a couple of mums that work for the police and the only way they've raised through the ranks and are seen as equal is because they have a good support network in terms of grandparents and childcare to see to the kids whilst they work.

And yes to more Elaine in series 3. Loved her character development from downtrodden overlooked employee to a strong police officer (and mother) working alongside Sarah. I think initially she was automatically awkward and obstructive towards Sarah because that's how the other (male) officers had always treated her but she realised she could be a decent police officer under Sarah's lead.

My own projection, but in the business of detecting, obviously sometimes just being present will help bring results, but in the macho office culture, there are probably a lot of 'busy fools' frightened to clock off, but not actually making progress. Elaine's life experiences, perspective and time management skills may well make her more effective if her work was considered in that way. Sadly it's often the mere fact of hours put in that gains plaudits, rather than how helpful the gains made are,viz time allocated.

I really enjoyed this series. I missed the first series, so I watched it on 'catch up' a few weeks ago before I watched season 2.

It's a really good programme. It kind of reminded me of The Unforgotten a little bit - and I really like the lead character/cop too. (Sarah Collins.) 2 main storylines running in it made it quite interesting. The music teacher was a total creep wasn't he?!

Only person I really strongly dislike is Lizzie Adama. I find her a wholly unlikeable character, and I kind of wish that she had been killed by that man who had the little girl (Sky.)

She absolutely does my head in. She's an absolute fucking liability !!! Everyone keeps saying 'you did your best, and you're a good cop Lizzie!' No, she's not. She's an idiot. She's totally inexperienced, and she keeps piss-arseing around, endangering the lives of everyone around her.

She tries to be some kind of Maverick like Columbo or Luther or Cracker, but at least they're really good detectives who get the job done. She does everything her own way, and ignores peoples advice, and everything goes tits up, and turns to shit - and people get harmed and killed. Awful character IMO.

And that affair she's having with Inspector Kieran Shaw makes my toes curl. SO cringe .... Why is he so obsessed with her? I just don't see it. She's boring and annoying and a bit thick! His wife seems waaaaay better!

Definitely.
I was fearful of she committing a murder suicide as revenge (as he so loves his daughter) but now I don't think so.

Well I'm 2 eps in & it seems pretty obvious who the killer is.

Shall watch to make sure but won't bother with another series.
