Chat away to your heart’s content about invisible quads, terrible children’s clothing designs that are apparently groundbreaking, Stephen’s bizarre whispering and much more!

The street is well serviced by solicitors, doctors, nurses, teachers, undertakers etc. I think they need to squeeze in a citizens advice bureau office as there are so many residents in need of benefits advice.

Helendegenerate · 22/08/2023 11:30

Sigh....

So now they've got used to be nice lad Ryan doing online soft porn or whatever it's called. In the breaks there are ads for Viagra type pills and couples about to rip each others clothes off.

Nice. Did I miss the announcement that the 9pm watershed rule has been scrapped?

How many young children are watching telly with parents at this time?

Another sigh...

On a less unsavoury note I used to cringe at Bernie's character when she first joined but now she's my favourite too.

eggandonion · 22/08/2023 11:48

I want Mr Kipling and Andrex and similar adverts. At least Christmas ads will be with us soon. Although Mr Kipling Andrex and Kevin the Carrot could be turned into naughty adverts i suppose...

Lorrymum · 22/08/2023 11:53

Its the "public information" via entertainment that drives me nuts. So much doom and gloom and being pointed in the direction of helplines after each dismal episode.

Getupat8amnow · 22/08/2023 13:30

Coronation Street is dismal, I completely agree. It used to have drama, humour, strong friendships between characters and storylines that evolved naturally, peaked then faded. Now we have shock tactic storylines that peak too quickly then disappear without trace. Big issues get used to get attention theme forgotten. Where is Gail chatting to Rita about how Paul is getting on, there is no one in the Rovers which should be the place the characters revolve around so there can be regular interactions between them. It definitely does seem (as a poster said recently) that the management of the show are sticking to covid style working - have a group of connected characters in, they do their scenes then the next set come in for their scenes. The total lack of character interaction is spoiling the show completely. The head writer needs to leave and be replaced be someone who understands that Coronation Street has to be character led not issue led in order to be successful.

HelloSquire · 22/08/2023 13:31

After reading this thread I'm struggling for reasons to still watch it other than out of habit
Non of the story lines are holding my attention tbh

Freysimo · 22/08/2023 13:43

Daran Little was the best Corrie writer imo, he was there from 2000 to 2010. I think the rot set in when he left. He was in the mould of creator Tony Warren, who understood Northern women, Elsie Tanner, Annie Walker, Eva Sharples etc al.

AutumnCrow · 22/08/2023 13:55

I don't think current TV-land people particuarly like women tbh, including (and possibly especially) northern women. We're being written as caricatures, not characters.

And very much yes to this: Coronation Street has to be character led not issue led in order to be successful.

One of my favourite episodes was Blanche at the AA meeting. It is on YouTube. Also when Hilda unpacks the brown paper parcel containing Stan's effects after he had died.

woodhill · 22/08/2023 14:21

Blanche was hilarious and worked well with Deidre

Also the dry turkey comment

FeltCarrot · 22/08/2023 15:01

I’m confused over Aadi and Asha doing their A levels. Summer took hers last year and cheated in an exam that Aadi was in because he initially took the fall for her. So, was Aadi doing an a level a year early, in which case we would have never heard the end of it from Dev.
The twins never seem to have been in school this last year and nor have we had relentless episodes with Summer revising, but yet they are celebrating results!

AutumnCrow · 22/08/2023 15:10

I assume that Summer 'absolutely smashed' her results this year, just like that?

HelloSquire · 22/08/2023 16:00

Is Summer retaking them as I seem to remember her collapsing a lot at the time
Or did she cheat ? Hmm

Ha ha ha didn’t know that was on YouTube. Was excellent !

bizzey · 22/08/2023 16:36

So much to say ...question..answer...

Or shall I just stay here in a land of make believe!!

Like the writters !

a PP had a good point about story lines using the characters as stories instead of stories using the characters.

bizzey · 22/08/2023 16:38

1 hour episodes are just way too much concentration for these little ol'brain cells!

lollipoprainbow · 22/08/2023 23:45

The episode with Gail at the window after aiden died was classic corrie. Now it's just silly!!

bizzey · 23/08/2023 00:52

Exactly !
We could all relate to that moment if it happened near us/across the street/next door ...sort of thing.

We would have emphasized with that moment and felt what others were going through.

Steroids, drugs, inside knowledge of shares and take overs and god knows what else ....

Do we really come across that in our everyday lives ?

Heliotroper · 23/08/2023 09:38

I think it is all the crime particularly the murders that have ruined corrie.

Lorrymum · 23/08/2023 12:00

So many murderers have lived on the street. I know its make believe but at least have imaginative story lines. Gary, Stephen, several of Gail's husbands, Shona's son, Fizz's husband John Stape, Eileen's bloke, Carla's husband etc etc.

Heliotroper · 23/08/2023 12:13

The only one I really enjoyed was John Stape, the accidental serial killer .... He only wanted to teach

Absolutely!

NCTDN · 23/08/2023 13:10

Didn't aadi do AS levels last year when summer did a levels? They would have been sat in the same hall.
But then didn't he pack in a levels to work with his dad? Asha should've taken them though.

There is no point after it loses its shock value, especially when they introduce rubbish characters just for Stephen to kill. I cannot even remember who Phelan bumped off.

Ellenanora7 · 23/08/2023 19:50

From what I remember Phelan killed a chap who pretended to be Gail's husband's son but wasn't his son, he also killed the mechanic working with Kevin at the time but I can't remember his name.

Actually I think the son was called Andy or Gavin, when it was revealed he was not Gail's husband's son but someone who knew him previously the Corrie consort on here nicknamed him Gandy 😁😁

Come to think of it I'm sure Phelan was involved with Gail's husband dying too.

Apologies but I can't remember Gail's husband's name 😯
