Chat away to your heart’s content about invisible quads, terrible children’s clothing designs that are apparently groundbreaking, Stephen’s bizarre whispering and much more!

Yes, but there still are not as many as in the Classic episodes, where most Rovers scenes have a constant turnover of people going in and out of the door, and the main characters sometimes have to squeeze past the extras to get to the bar! There's also a buzz of background conversation, which isn't there now. Roy's cafe was also always full.

Yes I hate how the Rovers is now, in classic it actually looks and sounds like a real pub, people jostling for position, having to make themselves heard over the hustle and bustle, bar staff racing round trying to serve everyone, the factory girls all descending at lunchtime, now we have Jenny propped on a stool doing sod all, Daisy doing sod all, rush hour is Glenda serving the occasional orange juice, it feels and looks what it is now an unrealistic tv pub set, it makes me want to switch off permanently.

LemonQuiche · 22/09/2023 23:21

Completely agree about the Rovers - just doesn’t feel like a pub any longer, it feels like a TV set, hardly ever anyone in other than the main cast. No wonder Newton & Ridley wanted to close it.

I find this quite realistic though. My local used to be rammed, now more often than not we can be the only people in there. And it's not just my pub struggling to stay open lacking people, it's quite a common theme. I do like that also being reflected in the Rovers.

They could portray the struggling pub trade a lot better though, if you watch Eastenders they have done it really successfully, the Vic is quieter than it used to be but it still has a real feel to it, the contrast between the two is so stark, Corrie looks and feels amateurish now, they may as well have converted it into flats or what would have been better is to have turned it into a community run pub which would have been a good storyline, and reflects what is going on in the real world.

Honeyroar · 23/09/2023 22:05

It amazes me how they all get breakfast or coffee at Roy’s, pop in the Rovers, then go for a meal at Debbie’s almost every night, yet most of them are on low paid jobs!

eggandonion · 24/09/2023 18:41

I couldn't be bothered going down the street to have breakfast with people i live with before work. I would have toast at home.
Roy seems to have excellent cakes though. Id be tempted by them.
The bistro is really handy for assorted family events.

Heliotroper · 24/09/2023 19:44

It is daft but I can see how it works as a plot device to have people meeting in communal areas. When Brookside first started they did not have a pub or a shop but scriptwriters complained that they were forever having to our in contrived scenes of people bumping into each other in the street.

LemonQuiche · 24/09/2023 19:48

There’s a cafe round the corner from us and I do call in for a sausage sandwich sometimes when I’m working from home, or a decent coffee.

eggandonion · 24/09/2023 20:55

Do you think Roy does good coffee? A lot of places near us have got machines where they press a few buttons like a glorified petrol station thing.

AutumnCrow · 24/09/2023 21:07

I only like instant coffee. I am absolute riff raff.

eggandonion · 24/09/2023 22:41

I have instant coffee with my lunchtime sandwich. If Im paying for fancy coffee i want all the steamy noises and emptying the grounds stuff.
I discovered that my dh spent 6 quid on a chocolate éclair in a cafe yesterday. So add that on to the daily spend for factory staff doing the cake run. A bun costs about an hours pay in the factory.

Heliotroper · 25/09/2023 08:39

I am sure barm cakes are cheaper in Roy's Rolls.

Roy is such a nerd that if he did invest in a coffee machine he would go the whole hog and get a proper one and find out about every different kind of bean and the full variety of espresso based drinks. I have noticed there is quite a variety of coffee orders going on these days and he managed to see off Costa!

Question - has it ever been specified that Ryan’s private video client is a woman? Realistically it would be more likely to be a man paying out for private sessions.

I wish they would show the text messages a bit better.
Or put them up on the screen as captions or something.

I am struggling to understand the jist of it all.

Does his "client" want to come to his house ??

I just assumed it would be a man. Pretty gross watching this, especially at 8 o'clock in the evening.

eggandonion · 25/09/2023 13:23

Is the client somebody we know?😤please no.

bizzey · 25/09/2023 13:29

Well if it is someone we know , that would be an exact replica of the EE storyline.

Why do all the soaps do the same/similar storylines at the same time ?

Do all the script writers from all the soaps have a big get together and pool stories !!

bizzey · 25/09/2023 13:33

Ohhhh ... whimpering new Lawyer...DeeDee's beau ....he doesn't seem to be serving a purpose at the moment! 🤔🤔🤔

Random character added to the street !

Exact same as EE ...almost !

Heliotroper · 25/09/2023 13:34

In soap world the world wide web only extends to the next street but any time anyone does anything on the internet it goes viral, they get thousands of followers and absurd amounts of money.

I am not totally up with these things but not sure how Ryan gets five hundred quid for prancing about in the nude and doing rubbish sex talk

bizzey · 25/09/2023 13:38

£500 !! 😲😲😲😮😳 ! Wow !!

Really don't like the way they are "advertising " this quick money making scheme.

So Emmerdale and EE have done it and both ended up really bad results.

bizzey · 25/09/2023 13:41

Obviously, what anyone does is their private business....but there are a lot of vunerable people out there who could get sucked in while seeing it portryed on a soap.

We are not talking hard documentaries here which show the pit falls.

EachandEveryone · 25/09/2023 15:51

Surely they will catch Steven soon

Heliotroper · 25/09/2023 16:00

Well you would have thought so, he keeps acting guilty, telling tall tales and doing absurd things like returning to the scene of the crime.

But then he whispers in a creepy voice and everyone believes him.

eggandonion · 25/09/2023 16:44

I thought jenny was trying to trap him. But now I don't think she knows. I wish the sink hole would reopen. But poor Audrey doesn't need the stress.

Me too, can’t be doing with all of that faff that goes with poncy coffee.
