Is anyone watching this on C4?

Not sure exactly what I make of it.

OP posts:

3

LaBelleSauvage123 · 17/08/2023 16:40

I thought it was three but can only find two on my TV - very annoying!

applejack18 · 17/08/2023 20:35

I'm loving it! I started with the UK version this week and watched the available episodes. Then thanks to this thread I've just binged season 8 of the US show.

I actually love that it's not about human interactions with each other. I am rooting for all of them (although I have a few favourites) because I'm so excited on their behalves as to whether there's a fish in their net or not etc, the stakes are so high.

I'm also loving the permanent shelters they build (Americans). So cute and simple. Such skill.

(To be fair I can see how it gets a bit boring, as you get used to the same arty shots being used when they're cutting between the different scenes. Obviously they're stringing a lot out in the editing for entertainment value.)

Anyway I have loved it so much it made me research family bushcraft courses and weekend packages! (In the past we've done a bit of basic bushcraft as part of a family PGL holiday!)

The only thing I wouldn't fancy is hunting and carving up mammals. I'd be fine with dealing with the fish I think. I'd love the plant foraging too. I want to visit their cute log cabins and cook over the fire under the chimney. So cosy!

DH loves this and has watched several of the US series.

I think the casting must have gone on grounds of who would be out the quickest.... rather than who would last the longest.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 19/08/2023 19:52

Just watched episode 3 - DH and I were hooting at the guy who said he’d ‘creep up on a grouse and hit it with his walking stick’ then hit himself in the eye instead 🤣

Caughtinlove · 23/08/2023 14:25

Anyone else still watching? I am quite caught up in it now and am rooting for one of the women left to win. They all seem mentally quite strong, whereas Louis, despite being so good at hunting is clearly really struggling with the solitude. Admire them all, I don't think I would last a night!

LaBelleSauvage123 · 23/08/2023 16:45

Yes I’m still watching but haven’t seen ep 4 yet. I’m quite enjoying it now I’ve stopped comparing it with the US version.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 23/08/2023 22:46

Watched ep 4 now. Thoughts: why didn’t Naomi use her bear scaring horn when the huge bear came near her shelter? Will Alan win because he actively enjoys being alone? I like Louis - it’ll be a shame if he leaves as he’s really good at the survival bit. My prediction for next out is girl with tarpaulin tent for a shelter - not sure she’s had any proper food.

Agreed. Me too.

I want the lady with the period this week to win. She is brilliant IMO.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 24/08/2023 10:09

Yes Naomi - she’s my favourite too!

Caughtinlove · 24/08/2023 17:31

Naomi could win - she has good survival skills and mental strength atm. Alan seems to be good at solitude but if he can't stomach a fish diet it looks as if it will be over for him.

PrincessPeaches123 · 24/08/2023 22:38

Is there anyway to find out what the actual set up is? How far away is help? Are they monitored externally? How do they charge their cameras? What exactly were they allowed to take in? Tried googling but can't find anything

PrincessPeaches123 · 24/08/2023 22:41

Started to watch the American one. Different league!

DaftyLass · 24/08/2023 22:41

We live on Vancouver Island, and are headed up to the top (where the filmed the first few seasons) to go camping for our 25th anniversary trip, I am so pumped!
I really hope we see large wildlife!

newnamethanks · 25/08/2023 19:52

Friend in New Hampshire sent me a clip from the cctv in her garage, featuring a visiting bear sorting through the rubbish awaiting collection. More than close enough for me. I'd be dead of fright in 12 hours.

mdinbc · 25/08/2023 23:24

We've been watching Season 10, and have been enjoying it. I thing the last 3 participants are on day 60.

The thing that I do think is unfair is that they send them off in late summer/early autumn. If someone was to actually live alone in the bush, they would be putting food by all summer. They would have dried berries and roots, boiled down fat to mix with the dried food, etc.
In the fall there is not a lot of food left. I am amazed at their bow skills, able to shoot a squirrel or grouse at quite a distance. DH and I have come to the conclusion that those who spend too much time on a nice shelter are the first to go.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 29/08/2023 17:04

Ive just watched episode 5 and there's only one episode left! I'm sure they sent them a message to say 'congratulations, you're in the final four' to make sure they had enough footage to make a series. The US versions run to 12 episodes I think? Although I like Naomi best and Alan is quite annoying, I think the money would make the biggest difference to him, and so for that reason Id like him to win.

Caughtinlove · 30/08/2023 07:54

Yes I am rooting for Alan too, but I think it could be any of them except Elise, as she seems to be really struggling with hunger. The footage of Charles eating the mouse - eek!

LaBelleSauvage123 · 30/08/2023 19:15

Yes I’m not sure I’d risk the salmonella etc

LaBelleSauvage123 · 06/09/2023 09:25

Have now watched the final. Underwhelmed! Won’t say anything more yet in case anyones not caught up.

Ducksinthebath · 06/09/2023 16:01

Yep, rubbish last episode. Real anti-climax after the first five.

Gellhell · 06/09/2023 16:10

I found it brilliant and watched the us version too. In the Australian series a woman won. Women tend to do quite well.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 06/09/2023 16:34

I thought it was so obvious that they'd already told the person who won that they'd won. Otherwise how would they know to put their camera on? It seemed really stilted:
'We're ringing to say you've won'
'What? Really? I don't believe it'
'OK bye'

CrossPurposes · 11/09/2023 12:39

Based on the lack of comments, I guess that this programme didn't connect. I wonder what the viewing figures were.
