The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart

I was about to cancel my Amazon Prime subscription and came across this limited series (seven episodes), with Sigourney Weaver in a lead role

Synopsis:
The seven-episode drama follows Alice Hart, who moves in with her grandmother after her parents die in a suspicious fire. As an adult, she uncovers secrets about her family history that threaten to upend her life.

Set against some of Australia’s most breathtaking natural landscapes, which are beautifully and hauntingly captured by cinematographer Sam Chiplin, the series unfolds a lot like a mystery novel, with flashbacks woven throughout to contextualize the women’s actions and conflicting motivations.

I'll come back to update the thread when I've watched the first two episodes.

I have just started this, it's very dark, (lighting) does it get brighter so I can see it properly.

NurseButtercup · 11/08/2023 19:38

I've managed to watch four episodes and we'll I'm not watching anymore.

It was quite a hard, heavy watch for the first two episodes, domestic violence and child abuse, definitely not what I was expecting.

Sigourney Weaver is brilliant and the cinematography is breathtaking.

The storyline, just isn't my cup of tea. It's making me feel sad, frustrated and angry. I'm also finding that my attention is drifting, so I'm rewinding & rewatching parts, which is not a good sign.

I give this a 6/10.
When all the episodes have dropped I'll watch the final one and call it a day.

I am absolutely loving this! Hate I have to wait a week to watch each episode! It's soooo good!

Lionoso · 26/08/2023 08:32

This is very good, but hard to watch. Especially episode 6 for me.

Sigourney Weaver is fantastic and it's got the best cinematography I have seen in a TV show for a while.

I'm glad it has warnings at the start of every episode, it must be triggering.

MarshmaIIow · 26/08/2023 15:20

I'm loving this show. I have two episodes left. I think it's really fresh and original. 10/10 for me. I love all the flower language too. Scenery is fantastic, and the child actors are absolutely brilliant.
Nothing quite so dramatic on my upbringing, nit my mother was a bit controlling and lied about some big things, I am intrigued here though, rather than triggered. Never did understand my mother hiding so much from me.

Starlightstarbright2 · 26/08/2023 15:25

I am half way through this too… I am loving it but definitely not a binge watch

Mollyplop999 · 26/08/2023 15:27

I really enjoyed it once I'd got into it. Looking forward to season 2.

Gatehouse77 · 26/08/2023 16:07

I agree, episode 6 is very hard to watch. I could feel my rage at the actions and words of the abuser

Peddlefaster · 26/08/2023 21:02

Episode 6 was tough, I hated seeing Alice in that position. Looking forward to episode 7. I think the sigourney weaver character is a monster, Twig was right, she is not unlike an abusive man, a controlling liar

SoupDragon · 26/08/2023 21:05

I'm really enjoying it too (which seems all kinds of wrong given the topic!)

it's both tough and compulsive at the same time.

Brumbies · 31/08/2023 17:43

Ep 6 I kept shouting at the tv, leave him Alice!

Brumbies · 31/08/2023 17:44

Other than that, love it, great story, great acting, the Aussies have a way of showing making good tv.

neveradullmoment99 · 31/08/2023 22:05

Episode 7 was so fabulous but so sad. No spoilers though. Just a fantastic series. So well acted. Love the setting. Was that the last one?

Starlightstarbright2 · 31/08/2023 23:54

I have watched many series with a crap ending - without spilling what happened it was very powerful .

SoupDragon · 01/09/2023 08:55

Very rare to get a series with a satisfactory ending. Very honest too I thought in that it didn't pretend to have magically solved everything.

were the women the camera lingered on real victims ? It had that feel to it anyway.

Mollyplop999 · 01/09/2023 19:21

Is there going to be a second series? It seemed to have left a lot of unanswered questions?

CurrentlyChipped · 01/09/2023 19:33

No spoilers from me either, but I was gutted at where it ended. AFAIK, another season is not planned. I don't see how there could be as it was based on a book. But then, see how the Handmaid's Tale was expanded.

BG2015 · 01/09/2023 19:36

Just finished the last episode. Difficult to watch but very compelling and gives a good message to women.

Mollyplop999 · 02/09/2023 05:43

CurrentlyChipped me too! I thought it was very abrupt but I did enjoy it very much. I hadn't realised that it was adapted from a book.

Awrite · 02/09/2023 18:44

I'm on episode 3 and am finding it compelling. Although it's dark, there are bits where I really smile, like when Alice said 'thank you'. Such a light touch.

Nice to see Candy Blue on earth. Loved her in The Expanse.

The cop husband is a bit of alright. Googled the actor and he's about 14 years younger than Asher Keddie.

SingingWaffleDoggy · 08/09/2023 14:06

Just watching this now, on episode 3. My heart is breaking for young Alice. When he left her in the water 💔
The lighting could be a lot brighter. I get the darker and moody aesthetic but I’ve had to put down the blackout blind.

Lovewine1975 · 16/02/2024 12:29

I finished watching this last night, thought it was brilliant one of the best things I have watched in ages. Both actors that played Alice were fantastic, the younger Alice's performance was heart breaking though and found it quiet hard to watch. Sigourney Weaver was memorising as June hiding so many secrets. Sad this is over, but the end was wrapped it up however was a bit abrupt as others have said.

LeatherJacketWedding · 04/08/2024 19:14

I’ve just binge-watched this and specifically searched for a thread about it, if not I was going to start my own. Well I absolutely loved it and am going to buy the novel. I was captivated from the start and agree that it was the best thing I’ve watched in years. 10/10
