Sobbing. I don't have anyone to tell in real life but I just wanted to say how much it moved me.

It was excellent and a very moving watch.

Mrsjayy · 01/08/2023 08:21

It watched it when it was first on it was the best thing I had seen in a long time, so many lost lives

MummyDummyNow · 01/08/2023 08:22

One of the few series that made me keep thinking about it for a long while after. Absolutely heartbreaking, but a fantastic series.

2023usernameNew · 01/08/2023 08:22

the part that absolutely killed me was at the end when she (sorry can’t remember her name) sat by that’s stranger’s bed just to be there for him. I thought it was beautiful and heartbreaking.

Mrsjayy · 01/08/2023 08:22

I watched with adult Dd and she was astounded how these men were treated.

54isanopendoor · 01/08/2023 08:23

I hear you. And agree. It was a wonderful piece of film which I shall tell my teens to watch in due course. I remember so much of it being like that. I remember my then boyfriends great pal who was one of the first to die from AIDS & the awful way he was treated. He was such a lovely man. I may have to re-watch this now.

ThatFraggle · 01/08/2023 08:23

There was an Australian movie which was very similar. I think two football players. The whole thing was heartbreaking.

Yes I couldn't stop thinking about it.

CrazyArmadilloLady · 01/08/2023 08:24

I watched and re-watched it. Loved them all. But especially Colin.

TheDogHasCaughtAnotherBloodyFish · 01/08/2023 08:24

I watched it when it was first on, it was so heartbreaking in parts. It made me cry too.

Her name is Jill, based on a real woman.

GrannieD · 01/08/2023 08:27

I binge watched it when it was first on. Still pops into my head now and then. Best thing I've seen on telly for ages but also very sad

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/08/2023 08:27

It was heartbreaking. The way they were treated was awful and there was such a lack of understanding about how it was spread. I think Princess Diana did a lot to counter this by cuddling babies with AIDS, holding hands with sufferers etc.

CrazyArmadilloLady · 01/08/2023 08:28

Jill’s Mum on the show is the real Jill.

2023usernameNew · 01/08/2023 08:28

@Mrsjayy thanks, it’s wonderful to think there are such selfless people out there in the world.

NothingWrongButTheFire · 01/08/2023 08:30

It was really very good.

About ten years ago the BBC did a series of interviews with older gay men who'd lived through the AIDS epidemic. It was clear just how traumatic it was being one of a few survivors of a group of people - many of whom died. To have lost so many lovers and friends, many of whom were really also family.

It appeared to have affected them for life.

This is on Iplayer or was I watched it after its a sin.

SapphosRock · 01/08/2023 08:36

I loved it too but found it irritating that 'sorry forgot her name' Jill had no interests or passions of her own aside from supporting the men. Also irritating that ultimately everything was a woman's fault. The only female characters were extremely unpleasant or support humans.

Mrsjayy · 01/08/2023 08:38

She did have her own interests and passions I don't think Jill just hung about to worry about the lads but she loved them and wanted to look after them.

frootito · 01/08/2023 08:39

I'm afraid I agree with @SapphosRock
No women with any story or dimension, just support human status.

Mrsjayy · 01/08/2023 08:40

Jill was anActress ?

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 01/08/2023 08:41

It's one of the best things I've ever seen. all 4 times

Mrsjayy · 01/08/2023 08:42

I don't think her purpose was to just look after ill men she did it because she cared these men had no family usually so they had to take care of each other and Jill was part of that.

This! Took me a while to notice but once you do it's a huge deficit. RTD writes sublimely - don't understand why he couldn't do this for the female characters in this series.
