Ha ha I’m not sure Raahh - I’ve seen pictures of him at the players ball suited and booted so he must have ditched the bucket hat Grin

Now what shall I do today …

For starters, read this gawjus article in the Grauniad about yesterday's match, and so much more.

Brilliant Carlos Alcaraz ushers in the changing of the guard | Wimbledon 2023 | The Guardian

The young Spaniard’s astonishing victory over Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final felt like an act of empire building

Nooo extend the illusion! Read that Graun article for a start off, it's so good!

Do you have to go back to 'reality'? 😎

JaneJeffer · 17/07/2023 09:44

I'm pretty good at avoiding it where at all possible held Grin

heldinadream · 17/07/2023 09:45

Me too! 😁

Fizzywinegum · 17/07/2023 09:52

Thanks for the article heldinadream - that long game with all those deuces was ridiculous and a turning point in the match I think

I saw an advert for the Boris programme Raahh will have a look for it - I’m also going to give the drama thing a go at the weekend - I think it’s called love-fifteen on Prime

The Breakpoint series on Netflix is also good - the one about Big Foe is funny (especially the party bus scenes Grin)

OK better go and do something useful Hmm

kazzaD66 · 17/07/2023 10:15

There's an amusing article in the Telegraph about the BBC coverage, same bloke who wrote about the new TaW in less than glowing terms. Apparently, Dick wasn't impressed with AC as a commentator Grin
I think it's the only time I've agreed with him Hmm
Sorry, don't know how to link the article, which is headlined "Stop talking, Andrew!" Grin
Apparently, John Inverdale has retired. Certainly from doing Wimbledon on the BBC, after 39 years!

Willmafrockfit · 17/07/2023 10:24

i spent so much time telling the commentators to ssssh in the men's final, or gentlemen;s final

I think I will start writing my Carlos/Novak screenplay because in retrospect the whole match played out like some Hollywood blockbuster, the young pretender, the grizzled old veteran, the first set disaster, the moments of sublime joy and athleticism, the temper tantrums , the gamesmanship, the twenty minute game, the double faults, the referee disputes, the final redemption through dogged determination, the final admission of defeat…….. it really has it all. Shame Harrison Ford is a tad too old to play Novak and I am not sure how Daniel Craig’s backhand is these days, but that can all be sorted out later. Carlos might have to play himself I think.

(I can visualise myself holding that Oscar aloft, turning to the cheering crowds and the press pack, being given an honorary Wimbledon membership in grateful thanks for my achievement.)

StefanosHill · 17/07/2023 10:34

Still can’t get over Carlos’ playing

So varied and skilful

There will be limousines available!

Inkanta · 17/07/2023 10:54

So glad I watched the whole match yesterday afternoon. It was brill. Didn't like the smashing of racket in post. A bit disturbing that - near the ball boy and didn't agreed with 'its human' talk. Made me more want Carlos to win - more so.

Norugratsatall · 17/07/2023 11:17

I was there, at Centre court yesterday. Up in the gods so missed a few nuances of what's been described here but, oh my god, the atmosphere was insane!! The crowd really were on Carlos's side. Incredible tennis and a great day out to boot.

JaneJeffer · 17/07/2023 11:18

It must have been amazing @Norugratsatall

I'm hoping Stef takes up commentary when he retires. Loved his analysis of Daniil's playing style and Federer's coaching Grin

I'll definitely be using the mute button if they ever get Kyrgios on commentary.

My thoughts exactly Jane* *

Raahh · 17/07/2023 14:17

I'm just watching Domi in Gstaad. Odd to see play on cay again, after grass for a few weeks.

Domi won the first set easily 6-1, but it's a tie break in the second.

Raahh · 17/07/2023 14:19

Dick commentating would notbe something I would want- even if I agree with his assessment of AC (who will be gutted- since he's always defending the crap behaviour of Kyrgios/ calling him 'box office'. ).

heldinadream · 17/07/2023 14:20

Well thank god Inverdale's gone. Was so lovely to see Marion B this last fortnight, looking good. Karma huh? 😂
