Is anyone watching this series? I have been struck by how many famous people come from (relatively recent) posh families.

Favourite episode of all time ever was Josh Widdicombe, obviously, but I really enjoyed Kevin Clifton from this series (even though I don't care for him at all).

I loved the Josh Widdicombe one because Ive been fascinated with Lettice Knollys for a long time, unbelievable that he is a descendant.

Yes the Kevin Clifton one was good too

I particularly like the description the narrator gives about the 'family archive' in each episode, ie 'the drawer with lots of bits in it' for most of us!!

I'm watching.
I was cross that Emily Atack's wasn't broadcast because Wimbledon ran over ( and I play tennis ) but it is being repeated this week so 🤞I'll get to see it.
I'm not in the UK and don't have access to the BBC player.
I'd be willing to pay for access to it.
Judi Dench's WDYTYA was fascinating.

Emily Atack's was broadcast, but was moved to bbc2 at the last minute due to the tennis so tv recordings like Virgin wouldn't have picked it up.

Judy Dench's was amazing. Also love the Josh Widdicome episode because he comes across so well. The Jack whitehall one was quite funny.

I am not sure I've watched Dame Judi Dench. I will go and find it! I like the ones that go back to Ireland as that's my heritage on both sides, and not that far back. I liked the Jack Whitehall one he did with his dad too - I would get famous just so I could go on WDYTYA!

I got to see Emily Atack's one. It was repeated on BBC1.

I watched the one last night with Dev, I'm sure it should have been Huw Edwards but DH disagrees.

Saverage · 15/07/2023 06:49

I watched the one with Dev. I'm always surprised when people featured have had no interest in their past, but are on the programme. Dev had never been to Ireland. Also the doctor brothers recently, they literally had their ancestors' details up all over the walls of their parents' home yet knew very little about them.

LadyEloise1 · 15/07/2023 09:27

I too thought it odd that the doctor brothers, the Van Tullekens, had so little interest in their ancestors with so much material available to them at home and actually displayed on the walls.Smile

Yeah I said that to DH about Dev, felt it in a big way about Ruby Wax too - she knew that her Jewish Austrian parents arrived in USA with just the clothes on their backs in 1937, but she was shocked that they'd been so up-close to the Holocaust, including family members they were close to having been murdered. I know there's an element of suspension of disbelief and pretending you know less so the show can get a good narrative, but it made me realise how open my family are and how lucky I am.
