There She Goes Special 2023

'Rosie Yates is now 13 and is starting to display increasingly challenging emotional and physical behaviour, veering wildly from joyous obsessions with the letter X, tigers with Xs on their nose, ticket barriers and Fedex lorries to sudden violent outbursts directed at both her parents and herself.
The family realise that Rosie is simply struggling to cope with the onset of puberty, just like any other teenage girl. Whilst the family deal with a teenage Rosie, their geneticist calls with news of Rosie’s condition.'

That was so good, heart warming

RareMomentOfCalm · 21/06/2023 22:30

Truly excellent, as always. What a roller-coaster ride of emotion - tears, laughter and recognition. Thank you to all involved in making There She Goes and especially to the Pye family for sharing their story.

There She Goes review – a beautiful, cathartic return for David Tennant and Jessica Hynes

This taboo-breaking comedy about parenting a child with disabilities is back for a one-off special with an air of finality. It’s sad, funny, lovely and tearjerking all at once

It gives the impression this will be the end of the programme ☹️
I'm so sad there won't be any more.
I love this programme.
Not least because the parents aren't perfect and it's not all sweetness and light and the parents are just bumbling along.
It's so relatable because of all of that.
And all the things they say

purpleme12 · 21/06/2023 23:55

It really talks to me

@comingoat I can see what you mean.
The honesty of this programme is what makes it stand out and what makes it so great and quite frankly what makes it so relatable.

Willmafrockfit · 22/06/2023 05:48

i am sure they mentioned autism

although in reality it must be hard to diagnosis but she did say she had autism as well

BrutusMcDogface · 22/06/2023 08:08

My lsas need to watch this (I teach in special school) to understand how it feels from the parents’ side. So many of our children do stuff at school that they don’t do at home and I feel sorry for the parents who are wondering what they’re doing wrong. 💐

BrutusMcDogface · 22/06/2023 08:08

(Obviously nothing, just to make that clear!)

So true ,I have just laughed and cried all the way through ,I love he fact the parents are just muddling through just like .My family

My son also had a rare chromosome disorder e has 16p13.11 micro.deletion syndrome ,he presents very like Rosie amongst his diagnosis he also has autism and severe learning disabilities and is non verbal, the chromosome disorder is thought to be the underlying cause of his disabilities.

Lionoso · 22/06/2023 10:31

Such an amazing show. I wish it had a higher profile so more people would watch it and realise the struggles parents of SN children have.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 22/06/2023 10:34

I love this show. Looking forward to watching later. Rosie is so much like my dd it’s refreshing to be able to relate to a family on TV.

WolfFoxHare · 22/06/2023 13:42

I pretty much sobbed all the way through this. My DS has a chromosomal abnormality so it really hit home.

x2boys · 22/06/2023 13:55

I liked the nod to Unique at then end ,I'm a member of Unique and I found them.very helpful.in the early days
The only thing I didn't find realistic was the length of ti!e it took to organise Rosie,s respite ,over night respite was first mentioned to us about a year ago it was agreed before xmac, and we hav,nt, even had introductions yet

fatherfurlong · 22/06/2023 17:01

Somehow this series has passed me by but watched it last night and found it brilliant.
I am a parent of an adult child with SEN and it’s probably the first tv representation of parents of a special needs child that I have seen that is as damn near accurate as can be- just blundering along trying to live your life dealing with your relationship as a couple, elderly parents, your own health issues( in my case menopause),friendships, the needs of other children, trying to secure good provision for your child with SEN and still keep a little time for yourself.
The attitude of complete strangers can be absolutely alarming and downright hilarious sometimes. I loved the scene in the park where the young mother came over to say what a brilliant job she was doing.
Shaun Pye, speaks the truth in a way that is funny and heartbreaking. He dares to say what you really feel because he is living it. I am going to seek out all the other episodes to watch. I saw David Tennant interviewed and he said it was the acting job he was most proud of.

The first two series are just as good both poignant and comical at times in
The writer absolutely captures what it's like being the parent of a child with comp!ex disabilities ,I know it'is based on his experience with his daughter

gogomoto · 22/06/2023 17:37

Really good! Thanks to the Pue family for sharing their story in this form, lovely cameo at the end. The point where he read out that a member was 35, brought tears to my eyes. We have a family member with profound learning disabilities and no known prognosis life expectancy wise, just hit home

jay55 · 22/06/2023 20:20

I loved that they didn't put a big bow on it, or give false hope that Rosie would improve, the show stuck to the real story. That they no longer felt quite so alone, less in the dark was lovely.

The mums rant about all the things that were blamed on her was brilliant and echoes so many threads where people are so quick to point fingers.

So glad they made this extra episode.
