My DH put this on earlier and I was a bit 🙄as I’ve never been a massive fan of Alan Carr.

It is wonderful. So funny. The lad that plays the young Alan is amazing, so talented and plays the part brilliantly.

I’m not often hooked on tv shows but this is great and I don’t want it to end!!

I'm 2 episodes in and is seems fine but all the 1980's references will go over their head. I can't tell you how good the child actor is.

bellac11 · 07/06/2023 08:32

Its fantastic and the boy playing Alan is excellent

Not sure I understand the issue with 1980s references going over a younger viewers head, presumbly children watch programmes set in other historical periods?

FrenchandSaunders · 07/06/2023 08:39

It’s brilliant, we’ve binged it. Young Alan is fabulous.

I love Alan Carr … his holiday podcast is hilarious.

tennissquare · 07/06/2023 09:33

@bellac11 , I was just trying to think of a reason why a 12 year old may not like it! I'm watching it with my teenage daughter and we both laugh all the time, 2 episodes left for tonight's viewing.

Heliotroper · 07/06/2023 09:42

Well young Alan is eleven.

I must watch this. I've been listening to Alan Carr's podcast for quite a while and I think I'd like the TV show.

thebellagio · 20/06/2023 21:40

I loved this so much, I really hope there’s a season 2

Iamkitty · 20/06/2023 22:19

I was watching the Cobblers at the County Ground back in the 80s. They've changed the players names, but all very familiar!

skillsmcgill · 08/07/2023 22:24

Loving this!

I fall in and out with the adult Alan carr. Seen him live and he was excellent, chatty man I was up and down with and lost heart with it in the end.

Changing Ends is just genius! Oliver savell is perfect as little alan. Awards beckon I hope.

Loved everything about it. His mum reminded me of Eddie the eagles mum in the film. Unwavering encouragement and support.

Sean Dooley as his dad was a great performance too and just enough of a hint of a Northumberland accent to feel believable without heading into pantomime.

Everyone looked like they were having fun especially Colin salmon.

Series 2 for me for sure!

I watched it with my 10 & 12 year old and they giggled their way through. The odd adult reference went over their heads.

tennissquare · 18/07/2024 17:18

I've now watched all of Series 2 on ITVX and it's the best and funniest series I have watched in ages. Episodes 5 and 6 are particularly good.

the80sweregreat · 18/07/2024 17:21

Loved this programme so much
Feel good and young Alan is a star

FailBetter · 21/07/2024 20:39

It's excellent. Lovely writing.
Such a shame Simon Carlyle passed away.

The actor playing his dad was great. So calm amongst all the other drama

Shaun Dooley. I have been in love with him for years. ♥️

All the young actors are so good young Alan, Gary, Alan’s ‘girlfriend’ all of them, great casting.

thebellagio · 23/07/2024 11:27

We're 3 episodes into season 2 and it's just as delightful as the first season. I absolutely love it.

BestIsWest · 23/07/2024 11:29

Oh, there’s a season 2? Wonderful.

Madeintowerhamlets · 23/07/2024 12:29

It’s so comforting isn’t it? I’ve just watched series 2 & it brings back so many memories of my childhood! I love all the actors & the young Alan is obviously a star. Hoping there will be a series 3 too!

FailBetter · 27/07/2024 22:08

It's joyous. I was feeling low so put second series on and have belly laughed twice within ten minutes. That young man is amazing.

SweetBirdsong · 17/08/2024 23:15

Just finished watching season 2 of this. (Watched season 1 just a few months ago!)

It is utterly superb, quality comedy. 😆 Funny, moving, lots of belly laughs, loveable characters, and stellar writing and casting. (And like a pp I enjoy watching Shaun Dooley, there's something so moody and smouldering about him! 😛)

And the show is just so charming and well written. Lots of lovely retro (1980s,) stuff in it too. My heart broke for Alan at the end, when the nasty man arguing with his dad said 'at least my son is not a <insert homophobic slur beginning with P here> And Alan said, he wasn't massively worried about his dad discovering he is gay, but he really wished he'd heard it from him (Alan,) and not from a massive homophobic bigot.

PRAYING for a season 3!
