I only stared watching this season so I am not sure they will address the waiter as it's not been referred to at all this season and newer viewers would have no idea

If they wanted to bring it up, someone would have mentioned it in passing to remind everyone/the audience what happened.

True.

Still love the idea of Colin being the one to bring it all down though.

Netaporter · 24/05/2023 08:22

@burnoutbabe @Damnspot it was referred to at Caroline’s: wedding in Italy when Kendall confessed to the siblings… everything means something. It will resurface.

Damnspot · 24/05/2023 08:24

I don't think it will resurface and if it does it will be the siblings that break the news.

Succession is absolutely not the kind of show that won't mention something in case viewers haven't seen previous seasons! If the waiter isn't mentioned it will just show that Kendall was rich and connected enough to literally be able to get away with murder.

This season has already had lots of callbacks to things from previous seasons, it's all just very subtle. You're missing out on so much character development by not watching the earlier seasons!

slamfightbrightlight · 24/05/2023 08:29

I think Succession treats its audience with more respect than to insert obvious references to things. It was enough that Colin made an appearance to give the inference that there are still things known and unsaid in Kendall’s recent history. I can’t imagine coming into it at series 4, there’s so much that’s come before that I can’t imagine makes a lot of sense without having watched the previous ones! Like Euan’s reference to Rose in the eulogy which really shows how utterly vile Kendall was for telling Rhea to mention her back in Series 2

burnoutbabe · 24/05/2023 08:35

I'm watching it as partner enjoys it and as it's the final season I am watching along with him to make it more of an event (and I tend to pick up most shows quickly /read these forums and individual episode discussions like on primertime.)

I have watched various episodes in background over the years, I recall tom's stag party briefly and the wedding at end season 3.

A succession breakfast for us on Monday! 13 years ish after I stayed up to watch final ever lost!

Almahart · 24/05/2023 08:42

I don't think the waiter's death will necessarily come out. I think that exchange just illustrates the complex power games that go on within those dynasties

Damnspot · 24/05/2023 08:43

There were a good few dull episodes tbf. This season has been really good tho.

greennotepad · 24/05/2023 08:43

The conversation about who is the favourite sibling is interesting, because there are two different questions- which of them is a good person (answer: none) and which of them is your favourite regardless (for me, Roman).

Yes he's a disgusting perv but he's the most entertaining character, for me. Funniest lines and most depth out of all of them.

Kendall makes my toes curl he's so cringey- the bit in season 1 where he puts on those horrendously gauche sneakers in his car while hip hop plays, so he can try and impress those cool artists. "Sweet fuckin' chilli sauce." BOAK

Shiv is incredibly interesting to watch, even though she's not as smart as she thinks she is and was truly horrible to Tom in past seasons.

Connor is good light relief, but he essentially trapped an escort on his ranch. He's not good people either.

mondaytosunday · 24/05/2023 08:46

Shiv drives me nuts - agree with PP she's not as clever as she thinks, and was abominable to Tom (who is totally wet). But interesting what she said about it being difficult being a woman in that family - must have had to fight fight fight her whole life just to get a seat at the table. I thought Logan rated only her at the start of the series.
Kendall morphs from inspiring, focussed and ambitious (great off the cuff eulogy) to tongued tied zombie.
Conner - he's such an idiot, maybe Logan knew he was no threat to him (and therefore not a disappointment) so favoured him a bit.
Roman is my favourite. Brilliantly acted, he is a non stop car crash, but seems to be the only one with any feelings at all. He can play such a disgusting but intriguing character - totally absorbing.
I don't get Greg and why they tolerate him. Is he a genius in disguise? He must have the thickest skin, or is just thick.

Damnspot · 24/05/2023 08:48

Controversially I don't think Shivs character arc has been that believable.

JaneFondue · 24/05/2023 09:09

Shiv should have stayed in politics and married hot Nate.

malarkyintheparky · 24/05/2023 09:17

The Youtube finale preview has a few groups of people

Kendall and Roman
Geri
Tom and Gregg
Shiv
Matson

The old guard are all pictured and Stewie is there too. Caroline and Uncle are shown.

Kendall and Matson are both pictured unhappy. Kendall with head in hands and Matson shouting.

I predict it is going to come down to money. Shareholders and Caroline and Uncle and Marcia don't want the business being destroyed and don't trust the kids so they go with the safe old guard and Geri as CEO. The kids are out.

Roman doesn't care too deeply about any of it so brushes it off but Kendall is destroyed. Shiv goes another direction, maybe back to her roots and joins Hernandez campaign?

TorviShieldMaiden · 24/05/2023 09:17

Roman and Shiv know what they are, that’s what I like. They have some appreciation of the fact they are rich and awful. Roman makes me laugh, but I have quite a dark sense of humour! At least Roman knows he’s damaged/perverted and embraces it. Kendall thinks he’s some sort of superhero.

Shiv did treat Tom horribly, but I can’t stand Tom. He’s so wet and annoying, so it doesn’t bother me as much. And Kendall has treated his ex-wife awfully and his own kids.

Shiv and Roman have some of the best one liners and quick lines.

I felt the thing with Shiv rolling over for Mencken- she did it because her dad ordered her too if she wanted to stay part of the family. I always think (especially on MN) that people say a lot of good talk about standing up for beliefs etc, but in real life loads of us have been torn and ultimately not spoken up or not taken a stand, especially because of consequences for us. The tears and anger and fear in her eyes when she gave up and went for that photo!

Why don't you watch the first three seasons?

DigbyTheDigger · 24/05/2023 09:38

In a TV interview a couple of years back Brian Cox said of all the children Logan loved Shiv the most.

escapingthecity · 24/05/2023 09:42

Tree543 · 23/05/2023 23:15

Connor is my favourite too. He is a bit of a fool and a buffoon but is the nicest of the four of them (which isn't saying much).
Can't understand the Roman love, yes he has had moments of vulnerability this season, but the Mencken support was awful and he is so gross sexually.

It's such an astonishing performance by Kieran Culkin. Roman is loathsome and vulnerable and offensive and hilarious and somehow it's so so convincing.

In some ways Connor shows the most self awareness - he doesn't want to run the company. But then there's the presidential run - so maybe he's the most deluded of the lot. None of them are as clever or talented as they think they are, but money gives you a buffer from objective judgement.

DigbyTheDigger · 24/05/2023 09:38

In a TV interview a couple of years back Brian Cox said of all the children Logan loved Shiv the most.

Then he is as fickle as Logan because there’s a recent interview where he says Logan loves Connor the most!

MustardGreenAndPlum · 24/05/2023 10:51

But…. What about Nan Pierce? She is going to want her Ten Billion Dollars soon.

XelaM · 24/05/2023 11:04

I honestly don't get the Roman love on here. He is actually repulsive. I don't find he has any redeeming qualities whatsoever. If he wasn't very wealthy and Logan Roy's son, he would be on the sex offenders register. I'm no prude, but he's an actual repulsive pervert.

TorviShieldMaiden · 24/05/2023 11:09

I wouldn’t now, but younger me would have totally been attracted to Roman. I did love a wrong’un.

TorviShieldMaiden · 24/05/2023 11:11

Whereas Kendall seems like the kind of man who cries after sex. He would do my head in. I wouldn’t even be able to do it for the money. It’s the constant obvious seeking of approval. I know they all do it in different ways. But Kendall surrounds himself with people in order for them to tell him he’s wonderful and he’s so obviously desperate.

Ewwwww 🤢 sorry.

Now Stewy on the other hand... 😍

TorviShieldMaiden · 24/05/2023 11:17

Don’t be sorry, younger me was an idiot!

Im not attracted to him now, but I do think he’s funny. Like the very quick “is it mine?” Quip to Shiv. To me him and Shiv really capture the dark sibling humour.

Keroppi · 24/05/2023 11:18

Okay not read the previous threads but just reporting in as a Roman apologist/lover! I did laugh at his breakdown though.

Caroline has been surprisingly okayish this season bar telling Shiv she'd be an awful mother (i mean, yes kindof, but self reflection is needed there, cazza) .. I wonder how she will be when Roman presumably runs to her house in Barbados?

Anyway I love Stewy 😍 and Connor/Willa's relationship. I miss Tabitha!! And Lukas is so weird. But Skarsgard is hot so I'm conflicted there.. Love how he's a total vampire of sorts in this series too

I also wonder how Kendall was to pull Rava and have two children with her - was he in another progressive manic arc?! He reminds me so much of Tom Hanks' son who went iral for speaking patois after dating a Jamaican woman lol
