I am not paying attention to thread lengths these days Grin.

There are not really that many watching the Swiatek match, unless they are hiding in the cheap seats.

Now that I've sat down I don't want to get up and make dinner.

JaneJeffer · 30/05/2023 18:16

I've put Gasquet and Rinderknecth (no me neither) on

Raahh · 30/05/2023 18:17

I have lost track of where people are meant to be at my house. DD2 has gone to the cinema with some friends- and asked if she can stay for a BBQ after. The film doesn't finish til about 7.30, not sure how late this BBQ will be!

Casper beat him in Rome but I can't remember already Confused and I can't spell his name properly

Raahh · 30/05/2023 18:18

Jane watching Gasquet just reminds me that his match against Rafa was probably the last easy win that Rafa played! It's all been losses and downhill since the US Open, really.

OP posts:
Raahh · 30/05/2023 18:20

No, he's another one (like Seyboth Wild) who gets his name pronounced several ways.

I think Richard just thought oh it's Rafa I suppose I should at least turn up Grin

Fizzywinegum · 30/05/2023 18:24

Sounds as if Holger went to the same French language school as Rafa Grin

I don’t really understand the RG night matches - do they just play one and people have to pay extra for that session? None of the night matches so far have been very box office. I think Gael is on tonight - I realise that the home crowd love him but he’s not had great results lately? Maybe it will be his finale?

I don’t think they’ve had any women on the night sessions yet which was a big criticism last year?

Azarenka v Andreescu could be interesting?

Raahh · 30/05/2023 18:28

I still can't get my head around the night matches, FIzzy- and no, with the greatest of respect to Gael, I wouldn't put his match as a 'big' one- unless it's a 'This is your life' special, like Tsonga's last match- but then he would have to lose.

Azarenka/Andreescu could be good, yes.

I was sorry to see Kvitova lose yesterday.

Raahh · 30/05/2023 18:32

And Djok is scheduled for the night match tomorrow, so no women again.

I know that last year, as the 'next big thing' they kept putting Carlos on late, and it got very late a couple of times and he wasn't too happy about it.

Gasquet's outfit makes him look tiny. Weird.

Raahh · 30/05/2023 18:42

The talk about the 'old' court 1 at Wimbledon, made me think the 'new' one hasn't been around that long.

It opened in 1997!

I think Gasquet has got quite a long body Jane and that top doesn’t help matters!

Both DS’s GF’s are here for tea tonight - I just want to watch the tennis!

Eek Shock

Raahh · 30/05/2023 19:22

If this goes to 5 sets, I don't think Rinderknech has much left in the tank.

OP posts:
Raahh · 30/05/2023 19:24

I do feel sorry for Rinderknech- he had the match sewn up, and now everything could slip away.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 30/05/2023 19:39

Ooh!

Raahh · 30/05/2023 19:40

That was a bit of a flat ending- but I think Rinderknech might be just totally knackered.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 30/05/2023 19:40

I wonder if Richard will be back next year Sad

Raahh · 30/05/2023 19:42

Jane I feel like we might get a whole raft of retirements in the next year- Richard is pretty much the same age as Rafa (give or take a week).

OP posts:
Raahh · 30/05/2023 19:44

I keep thinking Gilles Simon is still playing, but of course he retired in Paris last Autumn.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 30/05/2023 19:50

There have been lots of long matches today - Pella is involved in a five setter

Grigor seems to have had an easier ride - go Grigor!

If only Djok would retire Hmm - five sets on the clay is really gruelling so you do have to wonder how long some of these players can go on for - Stan looked knackered yesterday but he still keeps going!

Raahh · 30/05/2023 19:56

Fizzy I often wonder what motivates them- because it's not like Stan probably needs the money.

He's playing Kokkinakis tomorrow. Now those two have history,(though not directly, and have never actually played each other) and Kyrgios has already tried to stir up stuff - he's 'ecstatic' about the match up apparently. Dick.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 30/05/2023 19:59

Ugh I’m not keen on the Nick/Kokk combination Raahh - hope that Stan wins that one but his last match must have taken it out of him

I also wonder what motivates them to keep on going but then I’ve never really had a strong competitive streak Grin
