Anyone want to chat about it?

Yes! I really liked it - all the twists and turns. And that last minute!

AnyFucker · 21/04/2023 07:44

Enjoyed it. Quirky and different.

turkeyboots · 21/04/2023 07:56

I loved the crows.

abqkaklp · 21/04/2023 08:06

I was very confused most of the time, but always wanted to watch more 😂

Tirrrrred · 22/04/2023 12:54

Very strange wasn't it. I didn't enjoy the 9th episode it all went a bit mad.

I wish we knew what happened with Danny and if / how their lives changed.

I loved the crows.

Was that them imagining the crows speaking? No clue what they were about 😂😂

I thought they would die. Together peacefully. I would have preferred that ending.

I really enjoyed it. I found the plot easier to follow, compared to a lot of recent shows that have too many characters and plots going on. I would have preferred it to end when the cars went over the cliff (I actually thought that was the last episode). It would have been a good, bittersweet ending to the feud.

Some parts were weird, like the witch in the mirror😬

Deadringer · 22/04/2023 13:11

I thought it was brilliant. I thought they would die but was glad they didn't, I imagine that he will recover and they will be close friends, I hope so anyway. I didn't like the crows bit, was a bit too out there for me.

It was a great watch from a satirical POV but there were lots of plot holes that were quite frustrating. I know the plot was exaggerated to drive the story forward but some small things just didn't make sense. For instance the scene where Isaac blackmails Amy for money and she tells him to steal the helmets because she can't withdraw 500K in cash within hours. How long will it take for him to sell some ancient Incan helmets on the black market and get money for that?!! A more believable reason would have been to tell him that Jordan had crypto and he could steal the ledger and seed phrase from her house which would literally give him instant access to untraceable cash.

Another unrealistic plot point is Amy going no-contact with her parents. The whole series centres around filial piety in east Asian cultures, and it's virtually unheard of, and extremely taboo, for anyone to go NC with their parents. Unless there's literally murder, fraud or publicised abuse involved, children from Asian families simply cannot cause their parents to lose face by going NC.

A fun point that many pointed out regarding Danny and the 4 chicken burgers is that he was may have been trying to relive a childhood memory. 4 is the number of people in his family and maybe that was a Burger King they used to visit.

Episodes 9 & 10 did feel a bit too wild. Episode 10 also needs a major trigger warning for emetophobes. One scene of vomiting would have been fine for the plot but it was incredibly graphic and gratuitous for a huge portion of the entire episode.

fretaway · 22/04/2023 21:05

I did really enjoy it even if it did go OTT in episode 9. Going against the grain, I liked episode 10 even though it dragged a bit and happy with the ending.

I liked the observations on each character and how deep down, they were hiding how insecure and unhappy they were. Apart from Jordana! Although I was least sympathetic to Danny, who just seemed to make everything worse with his deceit and ineptitude.
Interesting how Amy ended up sitting in BK with 4 burgers.

The crows were very similar to a scene in Everything Everywhere All at Once, which was made by the same production company A24, so maybe it was a nod to that.

the80sweregreat · 22/04/2023 21:08

The last episode was crazy , but I'm glad Danny survived and they finally became friends. Even if it took all that to get them there.
The vomiting scenes were horrible

Willmafrockfit · 23/04/2023 11:16

i had read here that it would have been better to end on episode 9.

i did found each show quite slow
i did enjoy it though.

Gothambutnotahamster · 23/04/2023 11:21

I really enjoyed it - very different to most shows & loved both main actors.

Mooserp · 24/04/2023 10:15

I really enjoyed it. Agree, it was different and unpredictable. It went much deeper and darker than I expected from the first episode.

I now know they are pretty famous but I hadn't seen the 2 main actors previously. I think that was possibly a good thing particularly with Ali Wong as I didn't know she does stand up.

Deadringer · 24/04/2023 11:45

The lead actors were brilliant, especially Steven Yeun. He delivered some crazy lines yet they somehow sounded believable. I might just watch it again.

Bapbap · 25/04/2023 07:47

I really enjoyed the first three episodes and then got rather bored by it.

hottchocolate · 31/01/2024 20:24

I enjoyed it

I didn't realise she was Ali Wong!
