I'm sat down ready for this one..

OP posts:

I can't see how they can make a new show now because everyone will just take the temptations.

EDelafield · 11/04/2023 06:48

I guess even the ones who denied themselves lost £8k to other people having milkshakes and showers.

Has anyone spotted any post-show comments in social media from the participants?

Simplicitysimplicity · 11/04/2023 07:30

I don’t understand why James had to pay the whole 3k for the teabag when those that shared a bed only had to pay half the 3k even though they ate and drank as much as they liked?

CharliesAngels81 · 11/04/2023 07:54

I loved this program but just shows money is root of all evil.

Why were they getting pissed off with people spending money that wasn't theirs at the time? In my mind I would rather allow them to spend a little and complete the trek instead of dropping out and costing 25k

I agree those tempted only did so well because other people weren’t tempted. Very unpleasant behaviour by the tempted group although I didn’t like James either. The quiet ones never got any airtime or credit. Didn’t show humanity in a good light I thought.

Spot on.

PinkFizz1 · 11/04/2023 09:10

Must be in the minority because I really liked James.

Carolynne and Lani were 100% plants for entertainment value, I’d bet my house on it.

adz9 · 11/04/2023 09:14

Completely agree with this. So stupid.

I feel like the program actually rewarded those that took temptation. I feel they should have had a twist that meant that everything they'd ever spent was personally attributed to them at a point slightly earlier into the show. So Lani and Nana etc would have been thousands down. This would have really given us chance to see how their spending changed when it was 100% their money and they realised they'd massively ruined their final take home.

A 3k discrepancy between someone who wasn't selfish and someone who spent the entire show being selfish teaches no life lessons.

Was a bit of a crap ending IMO.

This mindset baffles me. How was it not their money??? If they'd have all taken no temptation they were GUARENTEED to walk away with £25k each. They all knew 100% all the money was being equally split.

How can you think that just because someone hasn't collected it yet it's OK to spend what would be theres?

It's like you taking out a loan, but before you get the money someone else adds £3000 to it and blows it on a luxury holiday. The loan isn't your money yet as it's not in your bank. So is that ok?

You ultimately end up £3k down at someone else's expense but I assume you'd be fine with that as it isn't your money at the time?

I just want james to be punished

Why should James be punished for taking a teabag which he didn't think would cost the group a thing???

This mindset is mental. It's not about taking or not taking temptation. It's about spending other people's money and giving yourself good things at the expense of others.

James wouldn't have taken a teabag if he thought it would have cost anyone else anything.

The others who did take the temptation didn't care what it cost their team mates. They just thought of themselves. It seriously worries me that this attitude is actually supported by some people and pretty much sums up what's wrong with the world!

Nw22 · 11/04/2023 09:28

@adz9 of course he knew it would cost them. He just thought he wouldn’t get caught. Awful man.

Leftbutcameback · 11/04/2023 09:54

I wanted someone to ask James if he knew it would cost £3k (if caught). It was a stupid thing to do, especially when the others were bound to snitch on him after he’d been so sled righteous.

Leftbutcameback · 11/04/2023 09:55

Self-righteous!

I have trouble understanding also.

Carolyn had an answer for everything and repeatedly said it’s not our money.

They were only guaranteed the money if they completed the trek. If anybody drops out they lose 25k

My thinking is if some is struggling and not likely to complete I'd rather someone have a little treat along the way. I'd rather lose 1k than 25k

Ultimately though as I went in with nothing anything else is a bonus.

HangerLaneGyratorySystem · 11/04/2023 11:37

I think it was pretty depressing on reflection - just people being rewarded for being assholes, as long as they were cheerful eh? 🤔

Someone on Twitter shared James' profile last night, he hadn't tweeted anything but many of his likes were of some really horrible tweets about other contestants.

Trewley put a thank you type post on Twitter but I didn't see if she had posted anything else.

Thegoodbadandugly · 11/04/2023 13:37

I feel sorry for James because he wanted the money to pay for the rest of his daughter's uni course that's why he was adamant he wasn't taking anything.

Leftbutcameback · 11/04/2023 17:19

I think James was a terrible leader - the job wasn’t to spend no money, it was to get everyone to the end given the cost of losing someone, and he nearly lost at least two contestants (Carolynne when she slipped, and the other lady who wanted to go home).

When the tempted 6 were by themselves they got to the camp much more easily - the encouragement works better than shouting and howling and ploughing ahead. And they could have had a much more strategic approach to the treats, so taking the ones to shortcut to camp so everyone was less tired.

nokidshere · 12/04/2023 00:39

I obviously don't know her personal circumstances, but the 60-70 year olds that I know have already travelled widely in their life, they paid off their mortgage in their early 50's and are retired on a comfortable pension and are having a fairly easy life with choices.

The ones I know are still working and are likely to be for some time yet.

The younger people in this show most probably aren't going to make it back to Africa either, or travel well at all, as they won't be able to afford it or global warming will make travel harder and more expensive. When they are in their mid 60's and probably well into their 70's they'll still be working, paying their mortgage, supporting elderly parents and adult kids.

But that was her point wasn't it? I mean where else can you get a guided safari for 1.5k? that was definitely worth the money. The chances of most of them ever going back to do it is probably quite slim.

I think the group who took the temptations did best out of this experience. They still took home 19k and enjoyed themselves along the way.

PollyThePixie · 12/04/2023 10:52

It was a lot for a one day safari. Virgin for eg are doing 5 nights in a big 5 reserve plus flights for 3,700.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 12/04/2023 13:52

We have no idea how comfortably off Carolyn was by her age, or James who was a professional basketball player, and while it’s nice of him to want to pay off his daughters uni fees, she has a lifetime of earnings to do that herself. What was really striking was how the group separated into puritans and hedonists and the pressure those who were wavering felt from the most dominant voices in each group. All for difference of £3K (which buys A LOT of tea bags).

Nightynightnight · 20/04/2023 23:40

SinisterBumFacedCat · 11/04/2023 00:33

The people who took the temptations had a better time, were better bonded and came out smiling, compared to those who didn’t take temptation, they took £3,000 more home but spent the whole time miserable. I’m glad James took some temptations in the end, he seemed so much happier. It was noticeable that James didn’t count the two women who resisted temptation as part of the “wolf pack”.

Because they had used other people's money to have those experience and had to bond to justify their behaviour to themselves. They may have left with smiles on their faces but with probably fundamentally with less self respect.

SquareRootOfAllEvil · 23/04/2023 01:17

James really is a monumental arsehole.

00100001 · 06/10/2023 08:12

A bit late to the party.

The reason the people who took the temptations had a similar amount is because not everyone did all of them. If 8 people had taken every temptation there would have been a HUGE dent in the pot. It was only towards the end more people started taking more.

And James is as bad as the others - so what if his temptation was "just" a teabag? He still went to the "dark side" and spent £3000 on a teabag and then made out like he hadn't been tempted!! And somehow convinced people that it wasn't him spending other people's money! After all the judgement he put on before and after! What a monumental prize twat.
