I'm sat down ready for this one..

OP posts:

A great show. It was genius to split the groups. I think the temptations might get a bit more complicated with some more secret temptations or like on the show where they had to build a bridge, some were offered money to leave. I can see Lani happily leaving for a few grand.

My dc are similar age to chip shop man and both wouldn't take the temptations as they could do so much with 25k. It's a life changing amount for many people.

CarPoor · 04/04/2023 21:23

I feel like the best way would be to say everyone's got say 5k of temptations (or a nominal amount)

You can take the odd thing if you need to get you through, but no ridiculous spending. No accusations if someone wants to phone home or have a hot chocolate

Unsure why they haven't thought of that, there's seems to be the 2 extremes now the spenders and the Grinches but also the Grinches have a point in around a week they will all be out of there and can spend and buy what they want.

HangerLaneGyratorySystem · 05/04/2023 14:30

I'm assuming that they chose a range of people to go on the show, some who have a strict moral compass and some who couldn't give a fuck so as to make sure situations like this were created. Imagine everyone was calm and kind and just wanted all participants to get as much cash each as possible, they walked through the bush, ate their rice and beans and sang songs round the campfire. That wouldn't be edge of seat TV would it?

Although I do think the producers went out of their way to put some real selfish arseholes on there! Imagine casting "you nice? on yer way". "you throw your granny under the bus for a milkshake? sit down here".

Mouldyfoodhelp · 05/04/2023 16:00

I don't think there's an issue taking some temptation, and enjoyed the tempted ones spending initially, but now they seem to be taking everything. You don't need a.night of comfort when you've already taken beer, a phone call home, a coffee/ pastry and a silent disco, not to mention some already having spa treatments.

The whole King's thing is bullshit and bullying, but I can understand being angry that they've taken everything.

Mouldyfoodhelp · 05/04/2023 16:01

With that being said, going by the end of the last episode it seems James goes and sneaks and takes something from the tempted so he's hardly right to be on his high horse

gardenbeachsand · 05/04/2023 21:28

They have left it on a bit of a cliff hanger with James taking something in the night. I really want to know what thats about.
It will be interesting to know everyones reason why they are on the show.

Im on the fence and if i was there im not sure whoms team i would like to be on.

The team taking all the temptations i get the experience bit but i do think taking every single temptation is too much.

The other team my heart went out to the one who didnt take a call. I think if they offer again she will take it.
I thought to myself when watching the 1st episode, if i was there, a chance to speak to family i would defo take the temptation.

I do hope there is a twist at the end.

I cant work out if the show planned on putting them into teams, or they did it because they knew the team would take the temptations. If they knew they would do that why? Was it just for the sake of the show or there is more to it later.

Loving the theory of it all.

Mouldyfoodhelp · 05/04/2023 23:30

I think I'd like to be in the middle, I don't think people should begrudge everyone a few treats but taking everything was a bit much.

I also don't think its " their" money yet the most ardent non spender could give in 2 days from the end through finding it too tough where having one or two treats would have got them through.

That carolynne(?) Has to stop going on about never having the chance again, it's stupid when you say it about everything.

Stressybetty · 06/04/2023 01:03

Not watched this yet, like the look of it but DH not impressed. Will probably watch with MIL and try and rope him in later 😀

Shekissedagirlandshelikedit · 06/04/2023 08:13

Carolyn annoyed me when she said she was the oldest and this was her 'last chance' to do these things in Africa so that's her reason for taking the temptations.

I obviously don't know her personal circumstances, but the 60-70 year olds that I know have already travelled widely in their life, they paid off their mortgage in their early 50's and are retired on a comfortable pension and are having a fairly easy life with choices.

The younger people in this show most probably aren't going to make it back to Africa either, or travel well at all, as they won't be able to afford it or global warming will make travel harder and more expensive. When they are in their mid 60's and probably well into their 70's they'll still be working, paying their mortgage, supporting elderly parents and adult kids.

I do think some, not all, older people are a bit blinkered to how hard the lives of younger people will be compared to their own.

Thegoodbadandugly · 07/04/2023 10:20

At the beginning of the programe like someone said above they should have explained why each contestant was there, whever it was for the money, the experience or in Lanis case followers. Leads me onto something else I am getting sick of watching programmes now where all it is is Wannabees every programme is getting full of them they need to start getting rid and get normal people onto them, it's like Mafs it's just full of wannabees now and I've actually switched off because I used to love Mafs but they have ruined it now.

thebear1 · 07/04/2023 14:15

I got pulled into this show after seeing a few minutes of it waiting for something else. Find it really interesting, wish it was on more often.

They should run it for longer and put it on Mon to fri

Stressybetty · 07/04/2023 17:48

I'm enjoying it but all the shrieking and swearing is getting on my nerves. Also the lot taking the temptations screaming and running at each new temptation. The older women Carolyn? is becoming really dominant trying to get everyone to take the treats with her, I wouldn't be surprised if she was a plant. Her drinking that coffee, I'd have let everyone there have a mouthful, they were all paying for it! Lani leaving loads of that hot chocolate, she's like a toddler whining and carrying on constantly.

EDelafield · 07/04/2023 21:40

I've just watched the first two episodes (spa temptation) thanks to catching up with last week's Gogglebox. I think it's great, the psychology of it is absolutely captivating.

Thegoodbadandugly · 08/04/2023 16:25

I've just rewatched the show and James wants to use the money to send his daughter to uni that's probably why he's so pissed off at the spending.

SUBisYodrethwhenLarping · 08/04/2023 18:13

If James has stolen some food or drink or a treat and put it in his pocket in the night then really really bad news

Then tried to gaslight them all by saying "my body is made different to yours so you can't judge" if he was diabetic or something like that then he would have extra stuff from the programme makers and totally understandable

But otherwise he is just a bully who makes the rules for everyone but thinks his rules do not apply to himself

EDelafield · 08/04/2023 18:22

I'm all caught up. I find myself laughing and cheering on the succumbers, but then feel bad because they're just taking the piss now. Then I catch a glimpse of the other group, and they look and sound so miserable, I go back to cheering the others on.

Carolyne (sp?) is annoying with her constant, "We will never get another chance to... sleep in a bed / drink a coffee / dance to music" etc. You wonder what's motivated some of them to go on the show.

moose62 · 09/04/2023 18:57

I would like to see a twist at the end such as the amount of temptations each person took gets taken off their individual share....

I read on twitter that she works as an actress since retiring, I also think she is a plant

HangerLaneGyratorySystem · 09/04/2023 19:12

Aha. I have found my people - I’ve suspected Carolynne is a plant from the get go. I think she’s an actress.

SUBisYodrethwhenLarping · 09/04/2023 20:55

Here we go

SUBisYodrethwhenLarping · 09/04/2023 20:56

Carolynn being a plant didn't occur to me until you guys say it

SUBisYodrethwhenLarping · 09/04/2023 20:59
