I've had a minor operation and can't leave home for a week. I can't do much other than a couple hours a day of pottering. Thought I might try to shred some paperwork, declutter a couple drawers, make a photobook and watch tv. I need your recommendations! Also, how would you spend the week if you were in my position?

I’m coming with my recommendation but also to steal your recommendations! I’m on long term sick and particularly interested in podcasts.
I think your plan for the week sounds great - if I were to achieve half that in a week I’d be happy! The only thing is can you get outside at all? Maybe sit outside every day with a cup of tea? Fresh air is always good for recovery and will stop you feeling cooped up.

I’d recommend ‘I’m not a monster’ - BBC podcasts. There are 2 series, the first follows an American woman who joined ISIS and the second Shamima Begum.

I love podcasts - what genre do you like?

True Crime

  • the lady vanished
  • foul play - my aunt and the hitman

Comedy

  • off menu
  • shagged married annoyed

I also love taskmaster and the taskmaster podcast once I have watched an episode

chocolateisavegetable · 19/03/2023 08:40

I would also have some puzzle books (sudoku, crosswords etc) and reading books if you enjoy them.

Which streaming services do you have?

BCBird · 19/03/2023 08:42

The Gold about John Palmer and the Brinks Mat robbery

And I like Red-handed podcast too.

Just started the Shamima Begun podcast also on BBC sounds

Diary of a CEO podcast.

I also enjoy Making the Cut podcast with Davina McCall and her boyfriend.

Rebel2 · 19/03/2023 22:21

ITVX has a new series on, redemption it's called

Veryfishy · 19/03/2023 22:27

I’m sniggering my way through Not Going Out on iPlayer

I’ve only recently got into podcasts ( had iPods for Christmas ) so copying the recommendations

Janedoe82 · 19/03/2023 22:29

Workin Moms on Netflix. Pilot episode isn’t great but gets better!! Short episodes and the plot really develops as you get to know the characters

Dozycuntlaters · 20/03/2023 08:32

Teachers pet is a great podcast, listen to that then listen to the teachers trail.

I also loved the lady vanishes

Real killer is a good one, as is British Scandal

Also recommend......

Paper ghosts
The wonderland murders
Deep cover... never seen again
What happened to Daniel Morgan

All interesting!

Dozycuntlaters · 20/03/2023 08:34

Oh and

Fairy meadow
The Fake heiress

Are also good

Hohofortherobbers · 20/03/2023 08:36

True crime podcasts I like are:
RedHanded
All Killa no Filla
Crime Junkie
They walk among us

TheTempest · 20/03/2023 08:38

I was just coming on to recomend All Killa No Filla but I see @Hohofortherobbers has got there before me!

anatasia · 20/03/2023 08:39

Unsolved mysteries is a great podcast

Greengrassgone · 20/03/2023 08:55

I'm enjoying Daisy Jones and The Six on Prime - the last 2 episodes are Friday so a nice end to the week. I loved the audio book and the tv series is a really good adaptation - with the added benefit of music!

Campervangirl · 20/03/2023 09:02

I've been watching Poldark on netflix, it's really good, I think there's five seasons but only four on netflix, you can also watch all seasons on Prime, I'm on season 2, I'm hooked, well worth a watch

Bouledeneige · 20/03/2023 21:00

Dopesick on Disney + - with Michael Keaton. Based on the extraordinary story of how the Sackler company pushed opioids on poor States in the US. It's dark but brilliant.

The White Lotus Hotel on Amazon prime. Light hearted funny but clever 'who dunnit' - really well written. Two series of which the second is really brilliant (but you need to see series 1 to get series 2) with the amazing Jennifer Coolidge. Loved, loved, loved it. Fab locations - ultra rich people in posh hotels, multi-layered stories.

The Murdaugh Murders - Netflix true crime. And you can see the court footage on YouTube. It's quite unbelievable. Deep South family who owned the town linked to up to 5 deaths.

Alias Grace Netflix. Brilliant atmospheric historic drama with mystery and whodunnit.
