New Endeavour series starts tonight

the final 3 (ever) episodes of Endeavour, apparently.

Although I've not enjoyed the stories of the last few as much, I will still be sad to see the end of the entire enterprise, from Morse to Lewis to Endeavour . (Unless they can come up with some new angle!!). I loved watching all the Oxford scenery etc. in Morse and Lewis, and the period drama bit of Endeavour was good - the settings, clothes, details of houses and offices, roles of women, etc.

It was Peter - the DS who was a child victim of Bleinham Vale, and who went to live in America.

I knew he'd show up when he appeared in the flashback!

Just realised there are two threads on Endeavour!

Gilmorehill · 06/03/2023 08:01

Last night’s episode was brilliant. I’m so relieved as the last two series were not great. I can’t imagine how they will wrap everything up next week. I’m wondering if Joan will jilt DI Strange. I hope not.

Bimbleberries · 06/03/2023 09:30

ah thanks, I knew I was supposed to recognise him but wasn't sure who!

Yes I think Joan might end up jilting Strange in the end; she is clearly starting to realise that he's not right for her and that Morse maybe is, but we know that one doesn't happen either!

I'm sick of Joan and Morse's constant near misses. I just hope she doesn't marry Strange. There ain't no passion there. On on either side!

I love Thursday and am bracing myself for something bad to befall him.

I would hate to see Strange hurt though.

Must be. Micky Flood some kind of ghost from Thursday's past. AL asking Box to help with a missing person, and somehow being linked to the closed case on the boy's home from series ago.

My bet is on a grubby ending for Thursday - prison, maybe - with Morse 100% disillusioned.

The thought did cross my mind during the the first episode that all was not going to end well for Thursday and that he’d end up on the wrong side of the law.

Well we know he won't die so I don't mind him getting a bop on the head Grin

I'd rather Thursday died in the line of duty than ended up in the clink Sad. And poor Win has had enough to contend with without that,

Ohhh you meant hurt as in heartbroken. I think he seems too sensible and plodding to really have his heart broken.

He doesn’t deserve it though. It really annoyed me that Joan asked Morse for a drink. It would be bad enough if she was engaged to a total stranger but they are colleagues ffs. She’s flipped and flopped with Morse for years and she’s annoyed me now!

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 06/03/2023 17:59

Yes I've found the flip flopping, will they won't they, to be boring at this stage.

It might not even be fair - he might be in prison for any sort of reason, with Morse not necessarily knowing the truth.

I have a bet on Joan not marrying Strange! She should really have wound up with Morse but obviously it can't be!
The script writers are throwing in red herrings, Mrs Lewis from the North East, or is there a connection????
Next Sunday should be very dramatic, so many loose ends to tie up, needs another couple of episodes really.

Very true.

Bimbleberries · 12/03/2023 22:28

And so Thursday is never mentioned again.

but Joanie might be?

I'd not cottoned on to the fact Endeavour's car was black and Morse's was red. In fact I thought in one of the earlier episodes, he buys the red car that Morse drove.

There was one side view where I wondered if they had somehow done some photo magic/blending/aging or something to make him look like John Thaw, just a tiny bit, round the eyes. Though that would be a bit weird, given the car thing makes it seem like they're keeping them as very separate people.

Though I could have got lots of details wrong, as this whole season and series has always seemed slightly shadowy and muffled in the filming and recording, and I find it hard enough to recognise characters at the best of times, let alone when in some kind of period costumes, too.

Joanie is beautiful in this. Wonder whether it was her or Morse's imagination. Hers, I assumed, but not sure.

@Bimbleberries as Endeavour drives out of Blenheim and out of Endeavour, he sees Morse drive in and they both look in their rear views. So endeavour sees his future self arriving. Very clever writing and filming.

Bimbleberries · 12/03/2023 23:09

Yes I saw that with the cars, but it kind of surprised me as I thought there was going to be more of a transition between them, endeavour turning into Morse, rather than feeling like two separate people as the cars thing did. I found it a little strange to end with the concert like that and do an obvious dramatic transition between the two shows instead of letting it happen naturally.

It was slightly earlier in the show that I though they made endeavours eyes look like Morse, but while he was in a car I think.
