So far they seem lovely families

First family - Nice kids tho think only 10 but thinking about no 11

Single mum with 7 kids in a 3 bed house

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 21/01/2023 11:07

Tho not in proper car seats or wearing self belts properly

Thanks for this Blonde, seems more realistic, less set up than the 22 kids and counting programme.
7 kids in a 3 bed maisonette, bloody hell I’d go stark raving mad. The mum runs a Caribbean takeaway/food business too - good for her. She values education too, which is a huge contrast to the Radfords!! Mind you with 35k of debt I’d be telling the older kids to get a Saturday job and buy their own extra clothes!!
Good to see the Irish kids having a decent sized meal unlike the Radford family who have teeny tiny portions.
Wasnt too keen on the Lincolnshire family, seatbelts not on properly (the little tot didn’t even have a seatbelt on!!), mouthing off at a car trying to get into the parking space, while she was sitting in the car with the doors wide open. Also Doctors warned her not to have anymore but the Dad wanting more, even though they can’t afford it 🙄 Also why was the mum getting the kids ready for school/doing packed lunches/doing school run when she works and the Dad is a stay at home Dad? Lazy git.

I'm a mum of 11, if often considered doing a show like this with the husband and my family but always been weary of what 'spin' they would put on it. I was on a group a while ago with some of the families from the kids and counting series and they were saying that hours of footage ( often staged) can be taken in certain contexts and that would worry me.
They seem like nice enough families albeit slapdash with some safety such as car seats etc.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/01/2023 14:15

Yes sure some of it can be staged

But good seeing basic life with large families

Even a simple trip to the park and picnic is effort to make so many sarnies

Yes good to see Education and decent meals

The car seats /lack of - really bugged me

Car safety always

@MaryBerrysCamelToe really worn

I know 2 families of 5 kids and one of 6. But that's it

Thanks for the link to this.

I am about half way through the first episode. It's good to see the reality and normality of family life.

Not sure what I think about the family of 10, the dad seems like it's very much his decision to have lots of kids. The mum has health issues and has been advised not to have anymore and the dad came across as not interested in that. He just wanted more kids.
What kind of clothes do the kids need that she has to spend upwards of £250 a month on clothes. Those older kids could get jobs and help out. The could also maybe help in the shop so the mum gets a rest.

Where I live there are quite a few families with over 10 kids.

I am from a big family but not as big as that.

I have 11 of my own and don't spend anywhere near that on clothes. £3000 a year on clothes??
I probably spend around £1000 around school uniform time and on school shoes over the year as my kids grow like weeds and the boys are really heaving wearing on their clothes.
Most of my kids stuff is hand me downs or Vinted except for underwear, socks etc.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/01/2023 21:21

Wow at many having 10

i think if I didn’t have ttc issues I may have had 2

as would have been younger and not spent many thousand on ivf

but grateful I have mini blondes

Hmmmm, dad of 10 sat at home, whilst mum with health issues at work?! And tbh if really just baffled me when he said he couldn't do jacket spuds as he'd forgotten to put the oven on, but he was standing right in front of a microwave? 🤔

Everything seemed to be on her. Saying about spending all that time in the wardrobe room every day, doing all the cleaning, and he can't even remember to turn the bloody oven on?!

Of course he wants another baby, more UC to sit on his arse. I'm disabled and bed bound, so rarely judgmental when it comes to people claiming benefits, but he sets my cunt radar off big time.

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 22/01/2023 11:24

I agree Openmouth, he was hardly a SAHD, he didn’t actually seem to do anything. She may as well have been a single parent as she did it all!
It said she had to have heart surgery at the end, poor woman. Bet he was still nagging her to have another baby after she recovered from that.

He doesn't appear to contribute a lot to the family really. I guess we only see a snippet of their life so shouldn't really judge but if that was my husband I would be so unhappy.
Teamwork is so important in any family but especially when you have a lot of kids to organise and look after.
The poor mum is being run ragged. I didn't like it when the narrator said 'she doesn't drive so he has to taxi her to work'. He doesn't taxi her, that's a service and he is not providing a service, he's being a husband.

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 22/01/2023 17:03

Watched a little bit of the second episode.

I liked the family who moved to Cornwall. They seemed quite sensible.

The family with the triplets annoyed me but that's because I don't like people exploring their kids for money.

I didn’t think you got more Uc for more than two dc post 2017ish? Also benefit cap unless one of the household disabled.

I did a brief UC calculation, and it still works out they would receive approximately £630 PER WEEK in UC and child benefit. She has health issues, so it's quite possible she claims PIP, meaning he can claim to be her carer, and also if that's the case you are exempt from the benefit cap (I know as that applies to me). So with her take home pay of £300 on top, that's about £48k a year they're playing with, and that's the basic before any disability/carer payments they may get.

Yes I’d rather be poor than show my kids every move to any Tom, Dick or Harry. The family seemed nice enough but the mum looked very sad I thought.

Just seen the 3rd episode, omg. The mother home schooling - no love, it’s not working is it? It was pure chaos, how can anyone learn in that environment? I felt sorry for the older kids trying to do their work whilst the little ones went wild! Send the little ones to school fgs 😂

As for the Essex family 🤦‍♀️ That girl must’ve been about six and she had a dummy and a bottle. Chinese takeaways and fry ups when the children are clearly overweight is just lazy parenting in my book (when no special needs/medical problems).

The family who moved out of London were lovely though and the children all well behaved and polite.

I’ve just watched the first episode. Really wasn’t keen on the dad from the Lincoln family. He’s 50, she’s 34 and their eldest child is 17. So he was 32 and her 16 when they met, if he didn’t meet her when she was younger. And a SAHD hmmm. Feels like they’re taking more out of the system than they’re putting in.

blubberball · 23/01/2023 18:42

Planning on watching episode 2 tonight. The 50 year old dad set off my alarm bells too.
