I cant get I to Yellowstone, but God the prequels are good. Binged 1883 in one weekend ( needed tissues) and can't wait for each episode of 1923.

Helen Mirren is brilliant in 1923, deserves an Emmy.

Via Sky Cinema episode 5 is available. I've watched 1883 in the break so a bit confused!

BorgQueen · 06/02/2023 21:25

A twitter post I saw made me laugh - Indiana Jones and Queen Elizabeth are fighting with James Bond and Bronn from GOT 🤣
ep 5 was v. Good, how many more cliffhangers for Spencer before he gets back to Yellowstone? That scene with the tugboat crash was amazing!
I do hope that bastard priest gets what he deserves too.
Also, Series 2 ok’d - yay.

1923 is coming up free to watch today. I've also been watching Yellowstone though. I loathe Beth Dutton but also what is it with all the blonde women?! Elsa, Beth, Summer, Alexandra...hair comes in other colours yanno.

Loved 1883, now watching 1923. I’m finding all the mills and boon style sex scenes in Africa a little tedious.

I feel the same as you. I’m not really getting 1923.

I have nearly finished 1883, I'm enjoying the story but why has the main character got very noticeable bleached blonde hair, also the teeth on the other actors are too white and glowing. Sam Elliot is excellent as ever though. I am a bit disappointed to see that 1923 has different people in it, though there may be a reason for that as I haven't finished 1883 quite yet.

BorgQueen · 12/02/2023 09:10

Well 1923 has one major character from 1883, albeit 40 years older 😉

1883 should have been a 2 series show, but the writer didn’t want that apparently. A flashback showing the years 1884-1890 would have been helpful though ( there is one in Yellowstone showing Tim Mcgraw’s death iirc).

Parentofatween · 14/02/2023 19:18

First time posting here been lurking for a while! Loved 1883 and enjoying 1923 though not quite as much, starting to find Spencer's and Alex's journey home a bit boring how much bad luck can they have. Have a feeling they will reach the ranch on the final episode!

What day is the new episode released for 1923, I thought it was Sunday but it's not there. I am up to date with 1923 now and I think I prefer it to 1883

Monday as it's shown Sunday night in the US. 2 episodes left in this series.

RedRiverShore3 · 19/02/2023 13:56

Thanks@redrobin75 , I knew I had got Sunday from somewhere, I'll look tomorrow.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 28/02/2023 13:25

On the verge of giving up on 1923. At the risk of sounding like Mary Whitehouse, the gratuitous and violent bdsm scenes involving two fully naked sex workers, which have been shown in 2 episodes now are horrible and are increasingly drawn out are completely unnecessary to the plot aren’t something I want to see. Alex is beginning to make me want to tear my hair out and the 5 minute scene of them shouting ‘I love you!’ at each other across the sea was ridiculous. (Apologies for the rant.)

brittanyfairies · 28/02/2023 14:15

I think that was the last episode of 1923, Spencer still hasn't made it back from Africa and Alex is tedious. For me it was a disappointing finale.

coolmum123 · 28/02/2023 17:00

I'm despairing. We have one more episode to watch and I have become so bored of the Spencer /Alex scenes. I said to hubby that I didn't think Spencer was going to get to Yellowstone by the end of the season. It's so drawn out and Spencer better actually do something worthwhile when he gets there rather than being killed off in a couple of episodes!!! Lol.
Sad that the quality of the storyline just isn't the same as 1883 and Yellowstone.

redrobin75 · 28/02/2023 19:41

I don't think they have started filming Season 2 of 1923 so it's going to be a long wait.

BorgQueen · 28/02/2023 19:55

They could have inferred Timothy Dalton’s character being a sexual sadist without showing the graphic abuse.
I wonder if Banner will end up turning on his Master? He seemed both shocked and disgusted.
The violence/abuse of Teonna was quite enough thank you. I’ve been expecting her to be taken in/protected by the Duttons but that doesn’t seem to be happening.
The palaver on the ship was silly plus, how is she going to get into America alone and probably pregnant? If she went to London, realistically her family would probably have her committed, isn’t that what they did with ‘wayward’ upper class Women?

So historically accurate in some respects but woeful in others.

SapatSea · 01/03/2023 12:46

So, so tedious. I don't know if I can be bothered to watch the season finale. The pacing is really off. I thought Spencer's story was interesting at first but couldn't care less what happens to him and Alex now. I agree with others - the violence of the nuns and priests is enough without adding in the gratutious naked ladies being abused and pretending they like it Hmm. All a shameful waste of good older actors, no nuance or complexity.

I'm done with the Yellowstone Universe - tried but couldn't get into Yellowstone 3 times, gave up on 1883 due to FH and TmcG's obvious plastic surgery, headstone teeth and bad acting ( not to mention costume flaws like a big up close shot of McGraw's brand new modern soled boots when he was driving a wagon). Seemed strange to give away the ending of the 1883 series right at the start!

PuppyMonkey · 01/03/2023 12:47

I thought I was the only one still watching 1923. I have NOT been impressed, especially after the amazing 1883.

Helen Mirren’s accent is TERRIBLE. See also Jerome Whatshisface.

Harrison Ford is just dull.

If I see Spencer and Alex come on now, I’m groaning out loud and even fast forwarded through that daft scene on the boat with the dual. Talk about drawing a storyline out beyond all sense. I’m guessing he won’t even make it back to Montana this season - jeez, I can’t understand those upthread saying he’s dishy, his crap storyline has put me right off him.

The awful violence in the Rainwater story is difficult to watch. And as pp say, what is the point of that awful Timothy Dalton stuff? Can only hope Jerome looking suitably appalled when he saw the prostitutes at the house might be a sign he’s going to help them or shoot TD.

Gah though, the whole show is a mess.

maranella · 29/04/2023 17:52

I just watched 1883 and thought it was a mix of excellent - plotting, stunts, scenery, several amazing performances - Isabel May and Sam Elliott in particular, and really effective at showing how brutal the life of pioneers was - how anyone got to Oregon I'll never know, but there were also a few jarring bits. Not only the modern soles on Tim McGraw's boots, but did anyone else notice the rubber pad on the butt of the rifle Noemi was going to sell?

Also, Faith Hill was FAR too old to be playing the part she did. She's 55 now, so I guess 53 when it was filmed, and her son John was five! At one point she tells Elsa that she was 17 when she was pregnant with her, we know Elsa is 18, so Faith Hill's character was supposed to be 35? I'm sure all that rough travel was very ageing, but could they really not have found an actress who was the right age to play the part?

The final episode broke me though. So sad. And I'm sad that 1923 is no good - I was looking forward to watching it next!

redrobin75 · 29/04/2023 18:40

1923 is fantastic, my favourite of all the 1883, 1923, Yellowstone options!

maranella · 29/04/2023 18:46

I'll give it a go @redrobin75. Hopefully it's better than some of the reviews on this thread!

cheapskatemum · 29/04/2023 23:00

I like 1923 best too & can't wait for series 2
