He's continued to be a dad to her even after he and Stacey split. That says a lot in my mind.

This exactly.
It doesn’t matter that he’s not her biological Dad, he’s behaving (rightly or wrongly) out of fear and worry for someone he considers his daughter

the80sweregreat · 24/01/2023 17:43

Martin is one of the good guys mostly
Lily's dad did a runner years ago

MichaelAndEagle · 24/01/2023 18:59

I don't think you would stand back and say its your choice to a 12 year old. They are too young to be able to make that decision.
You wouldn't expect a 12 year old to make any other massive life changing decisions.
Obviously you wouldn't say you're having a termination and that's that. But in reality it'll mean Stacey bringing up another child.
I also hope they don't show Lily going ahead with it.

the80sweregreat · 24/01/2023 19:07

I'd be in the ' you need a termination ' camp
Although I know it's very hard
My late parents would have disowned me though. I've no idea what would have happened to me in this situation tbh ( not awful parents at all , but they wouldn't have handled it very well at all, the shame alone would have floored them amongst other things)

Mrsjayy · 24/01/2023 19:19

I think stacy wants to give her body autonomy but it's not a great thing to give a 12 year old that choice its too much responsibility and once the baby arrives then what ?

the80sweregreat · 24/01/2023 19:27

Stacey will end up with the lions share of the baby no doubt
Ricky wouldn't be much help either.
Or his family! It would be a nightmare, especially as they have so many children already

Jack will lose his shit over the pregnancy. He'll blame Lily and Stacey - obviously there's the long history between the Branning men and Slater women.

BigMandysBookClub · 24/01/2023 23:13

Didn't EE have a young girl with a baby before? The Miller girl? She was very young too.

Two girls had babies in my school young i think in year 9 and we didn't see them after the baby. This was nearly 30 years ago. I think they both did OK in the end. I dated a guy where his mum had him at 14 and that was the 70's. That must have been hard.

VivienneDelacroix · 24/01/2023 23:25

You're right I just looked it up - Demi Miller had a baby aged 13. I was living abroad at that time, so I have a two-year Eastenders black hole!

Also she was Joe Swash's sister in real life too!

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2023 06:16

I remember the Miller's. I Can't remember what became of them.
The mum was bit like Karen

Bunionbabe · 25/01/2023 08:18

Jack is supposed to be a CID officer?? You'd think his people skills would need to be better. All he ever does is rage and shout, no way to deal with anyone. If Lily has this baby and stays at school which I guess she would have to, she could be in the 6th form when baby starts school. This whole scenario is a really bad storyline, depressing.

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2023 09:33

Jack was a bent copper back in the day
He is pretty useless most of the time

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2023 09:46

I don't remember the angst with Demi Miller and who the dad was etc , but I guess there was!
With Bernie , I don't think she knew she was pregnant for ages did she ?
Then the baby died, that was sad :(
This is just going to turn into a family feud

I R.E.M. them

And yes always have a family with a mouth mum 😂

I don't R.E.M. her being 13 tho

But they are getting younger

We thought Dennis being a dad at 14 was bad

Jack is grade A twunt. His response to everything is shouting and blaming everyone else around him.
I have to admit I liked Stacey's response at him slut shaming a 12yr old.
I'm assuming that Denise will be anti termination, she wasn't happy when her daughter decided to terminate.
Another aspect that probably doesn't help Lily is the "We'll manage, we always have" spiel. As if solutions are magically going to appear, it's not realistic. Prime example of this was when she was asking Whitney about how she was going to juggle her baby and the stall.
It's also harder for her to choose the termination route if everybody keeps referring to her pregnancy as a baby. As opposed to the question being do you want to continue with this pregnancy or not.

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2023 11:03

People are rarely up front with how much babies change your life though and just how hard it is.
My mum was , but I think it's rare. I still had two in my late 20s and early 30s and I found it hard going though , so she didn't influence me to not have any. I still thought it would be easier than it was tbh. Nobody can tell you.
Plus the Slater houseshold dynamic is pretty different , so Lily has been brought not knowing a home with many children about, so maybe she thinks it is just easy ?

qazxc · 25/01/2023 11:55

I agree. People also don't talk about past the baby stage, which goes by very quickly. you need to think about how you are going to handle the toddler/preschool years, the school years, the teenage years. How is Lily meant to think about this, realise the needs and wants of her child when she isn't even a teenager yet. The reality is that she can't, she's not old enough to be responsible for a child. (I wouldn't even let a 12 yr old babysit my child for a few hours TBH) So either Stacey or Jack would to have to do the parenting and take financial responsibility.
The best option for Lily would be to go ahead with the termination IMHO.
What I fear is going to happen is that the pregnancy will go ahead and once the baby is born there be no depiction of how hard it is. Instead it will disappear to the magical child cupboard.

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2023 13:27

Maybe Lily might give the baby up for adoption ? Although Sonia did this and Dee too
So I guess thats already been done ! !
( can't think of what hasn't 'been done ' before on this show !)

qazxc · 25/01/2023 15:46

Going through a high risk pregnancy and birth to give your child up at 12, would be massively traumatic for Lily. I don't think that Martin wouldn't be keen on it as he says the guilt still haunts him and he went off the rails after giving up Bex.
Of course these are soap adoptions where you magically get your kid back after a few years. A bit like death in eastenders, nothing cannot be reversed.

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2023 15:54

I'm not sure how it'll turn out tbh
The Slaters will have to bring it up and provide for the baby financially. She hasn't thought about this aspect of it at all
Ricky's pocket money might buy a few nappies, but that's it !

Bunionbabe · 25/01/2023 16:39

It's a pity the IQ level of EE residents isn't as high as their sperm count. High fertility and low levels of common sense are not good combination.
