They explained the luggage - his mum was about to make a connecting flight when she heard about the baby, and there wasn't time to offload the suitcase before the flight left. Sounded perfectly reasonable to me tbh.

I thought they weren't supposed to fly with luggage on a plane when the owner hasn't boarded. In case of bombs and such.

I enjoyed it. Total nonsense but perfect Christmas viewing for me!

Were the twins actually twins or brothers in real life?

I think they were the same actor.

I've certainly had flights before where my luggage either went on ahead (as I missed the connecting flight but the luggage got transferred) or came after (as the airport lost it - bloody Charles de Gaul). They will offload it if they can, but they're not going to delay an entire flight to get one case off in a situation like that. I reckon there was a lot more implausible stuff about that episode than the luggage!

I loved it. Wouldn't it be great if they made a show with a young officer Selwyn.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 31/12/2022 10:36

I can believe the suitcase thing — it shouldn't happen, but I know it does. A friend was bumped at the gate recently, but his suitcase went without him, all the way to Canada! I thought Neville should have realised the clothes weren't his mum's though.

Those parsnips didn't look that great either. Grin

I'm not sure plausibility is one of the key points of Death in Paradise 😂😂

I did think that the luggage was odd (although I know they sometimes travel alone), plus the fact that I'm not convinced you can just take vegetables into a country like that. The parsnips looked terrible! Would they really look that bad after such a short space of time?

Finally caught up with this and initially thought it was quite a dark subject for a Christmas special but it came alright in the end.

Now to catch up with the spin off.

Nothing would ever get solved! Every episode that's ever involved a past case of the Commissioners has been a case he failed to solve. As my dd says, it's a wonder he ever became Commissioner.....😄

Is the spin-off the Uk series with Humphrey? Didn’t think that had been shown yet.

I think the new series of the regular series starts tomorrow.

to be fair, they wouldn't involve past cases he had solved...

that said, he doesn't seem dynamic enough to be commissioner so he must know where the bodies are buried or there was a very small pool of candidates!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 05/01/2023 10:45

I think he was probably hired for his address book and ability to get on with people rather than his active policing. He seems to know everybody at the sailing, golf and cricket clubs!

I still miss Dwayne and JP! Marlon needs another uniformed officer to bounce off; they give the comedy. Not keen on the new civilian woman who will no doubt be a police officer after a couple of weeks training.

If the new girl is the love interest I wonder if Florence(?) will be back to shake things up.

Can’t wait for the spin off - Humphrey was my favourite DI.
