A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Shows marked with an asterisk are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. I have nothing sensible to add to the discussion currently, just that Kang Tae-Oh’s photo this morning immediately brought the prototypical manhwa oppa to mind. It’s all about the washboard abs.

I’ve just been taking great pleasure in sniffing our cat as he’s come back from his evening patrol smelling of woodsmoke. We’re in a town and I’m guessing half the street has lit their log fires to shoo the cold air back up their chimneys. It’s bloody freezing here, but no snow thank God.

Here it was -8C overnight and by noon today, only -5C. I almost went flying walking to the garage this morning. Needless to say, I went back inside to switch my boots for proper snow hiking ones. The ice is so thick that I didn't even break the crust, walking across the grass. On the plus side, the coldness justifies my tucking up under an enormous warm blanket to watch AoS 2.

A Bato recommendation for the filthier noonas: Honey Bed Talk. It’s hilarious, exactly the right kind of knowing fun. Such a clever set-up for a webtoon. The first short story is so-so but it gets better.

Stayed up too late last night watching AoS. I cannot emphasis enough how much I am appreciating angsty, black clad Jang Uk. He was easy on the eye in s1 but S2 is off the scale < fans self >

39th early morning episode of 40 of Thank You Doctor completed and the FL STILL hasn't told the ML about her dead fiancé. There's slow burn and then there's damp kindling and rubbing two sticks together. It's crazily didactic, edited on crack cocaine with random cut storylines appearing and disappearing with no warning and massive surgeries and emotional arcs being covered in 2 minutes and then 20 minutes being given to a very involved conversation about ethics of filial responsibility and end of life care. Absolutely no one else should watch it for any reason at all.
I'M REALLY GOING TO MISS IT 😭
