Anyone else watching this? I live here, can still remember the police searches.
Can't believe its still unsolved. He seemed the most unlikely murder victim.

Ah I'm recording that, it's called Murder on the Doorstep for anyone else looking. Looks interesting.

Georgeskitchen · 01/12/2022 21:59

I'm watching it. Shocking case and hard to believe it happened somewhere that looks so beautiful!!

SpongepantsSquareBob · 01/12/2022 22:01

Apologies, Murder on the Doorstep! Might be a beautiful place but still has its issues!
Shocking for our wee community though.

oh come on SpongeBob, you live locally, as do I, what happened isn’t and why isn’t exactly a secret!

Fluffluff · 01/12/2022 22:56

I was at school with him. The documentary didn't tell me anything new.. For the locals here what is the gossip?

Create10 · 01/12/2022 22:57

Can the locals tell us who did it?

Twiggywinkle13 · 01/12/2022 22:59

The locals can tell you that most people here know exactly who the ‘highland business man’ is and that’s where the answer lies.

ForestLilac · 01/12/2022 22:59

I heard recently on the radio it might have had something to do with a planning application he objected to. Anyone else heard that?

crunchieroxks · 01/12/2022 23:01

Well I'm intrigued - highland businessman? Am local but am puzzled!

Twiggywinkle13 · 01/12/2022 23:01

@ForestLilac that was the last ditch attempt to try and pin it on someone but came to absolutely zero despite the police trailing to Canada where the old owner of the pub now lives.

Twiggywinkle13 · 01/12/2022 23:02

@crunchieroxks listen to the part in the documentary again that John Beattie gives carefully, it’ll not take you much to join the dots I don’t think.

Thanks, will take another look/listen

I've seen a documentary on this before. Think it's on IPlayer. Such a bizarre case. The other film focused much more on the decking at the hotel.

Eastereggs1 · 01/12/2022 23:07

I’m local too, going to catch up on this at the weekend! I don’t know who the highland business man is either?

My dad had to do a DNA swab at the time because he had a work connection to Alastair, and for some reason I went with him.

Glowlamp · 01/12/2022 23:18

I live not too far from this but clearly not close enough to know the gossip, intriguing case and I listened to the bbc podcast too. Poor wife & kids & they still live in the house!

MissHann · 28/01/2024 19:41

Could you private message me please.

canina · 29/01/2024 16:13

I've just watched but I'm non the wiser as to who the highland business might be
Could you give us another clue?
I take it you are discounting the Havelock connection...

Channy73 · 21/04/2024 02:25

Do tell. I mean you’re sitting here telling us it’s no secret

Channy73 · 21/04/2024 02:26
