Loving it.
Fascinating study of human psychology in that they are all so desperate to bond constantly forgetting the purpose of the game!

Well, not really. That group is a pretty self-selective subset. Similar overdramatic personalities. Not really your average person on the street.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 02/12/2022 22:17

QueenOfThorns · 01/12/2022 22:27

Well, maybe it would have made more sense if you’d turned on sooner than the end of the third episode! Smile

Oh I understand the format perfectly well. The game itself has been round for donkey's years. It's just a version of Murder in the Dark. I've played various versions as a kid, at Brownies and later as a teen in drama class at school. What I can't understand is the dramatics from grown adults. I don't get what they're being do dramatic over and it makes me really uncomfortable because I'm not understanding the angst at all, and for people to get so upset like that for the sake of entertainment makes me think they must be a bit mentally unstable and being exploited by the producers.

QueenOfThorns · 02/12/2022 23:16

CurlyhairedAssassin are you Imran? Wink

You’re right about Aaron - that reaction was a bit extreme. I had assumed that these programmes nowadays have some kind of psychological screening to weed out people who might be too fragile, but that should’ve picked him out, surely?

The rest of them seem to just be getting into the game, though - it’s quite a dramatic concept, so I’m not sure what’s difficult to understand about their reactions.

tobee · 03/12/2022 00:14

I still think the tasks are a bit pointless.

John was horrible. Can't stand it when people go on about others being "disrespectful" to them. Whilst shouting and being disrespectful themselves. You need to earn respect not just demand it.

It's difficult to work out if it's just the editing but I can barely "get a feel" of most of the contestants apart from those who are loudest.

I'm glad we won't have to hear Imran mention his phd and the age he got it again! Although it was a bit tough the way it fell for him

tobee · 03/12/2022 00:17

Re their reactions I think in such a claustrophobic atmosphere it's easy to get swept along by emotions. It reminds me of going on school trips when everything becomes very intense unusually quickly.

user175438765 · 03/12/2022 07:08

They have probably been told to up the drama because the producers believe it will make good telly, like the screamers in IAC are the one people seem to like to watch.

happinessischocolate · 03/12/2022 08:25

zen1 · 02/12/2022 00:18

I quite liked John until today’s episode. Now I’ve gone right off him! He was really aggressive to Aaron. As an aside, I think John might fancy the pink-haired guy (can’t remember his name).

It's interesting that John was being such a nice person and then he got voted the least likely to be a traitor, which when talking about it later he'd changed to most trustworthy, and then he turns into a massive arsehole.

I felt so sorry for Aaron, it's one thing to be voted off by a bunch off sheep saying sorry but I think it's you, and another to be attacked the way Aaron was.

You can see how bullies get away with stuff, everyone just going along with things other people say.

ButtonSister · 03/12/2022 10:04

I still don't understand the rules. From what I can tell any remaining traitors bag the prize money but if there are no traitors it gets shared between the remaining faithful.
So what happens if all the traitors get identified early on? Either there are no traitors for the rest of the game (but the faithful won't know that??) Or if the traitors have recruited more to their group then they can ensure there will always be traitors so ultimately the (remaining) traitors will always win over the faithful? 🤔
At some point could the traitors not attempt to recruit ALL the faithful as traitors on the agreement that all of them who remain at the end share the prize? 🤔🤔
I guess though from each individual traitors' pov they want enough of them in the group so each individual traitor feels less exposed, but not so many that when they share the prize their individual cut is too small.
🤔🤔🤔

WhatsitWiggle · 03/12/2022 10:28

@ButtonSister when a traitor gets banished, the remaining traitors can recruit a faithful to their side. It's one-out, one-in arrangement.

Looking at the Dutch (?) version, multiple people get banished on the last day until there's two left - if both faithful they split the fund, if one is traitor that person wins it all.

Currently there's 3 traitors and 14 faithful remaining. Over the next couple of days, if only faithfuls get murdered and banished, the traitors are going to come under suspicion more. I think this is a programme that starts off pretty slow and gets more interesting around day 5 or 6.

JaneJeffer · 03/12/2022 10:44

I think they missed a trick by not making one half of the couple a traitor 😈

I saw a clip where Tom admits that he is Alex’s boyfriend. I can’t wait to see Matt’s face as he has fallen for Alex. I think this will make both Alex and Tom vulnerable.

So presumably if there's 2 traitors at the end they'll split it too, although by that point they'd have turned on each other in order to win the whole amount. I can see both the female traitors getting to the end, they'll both flying very low but if the bloke gets outed then they have the risk of having stood up for him in the past.

It's interesting psychologly, but I just wish some of the faithfuls weren't such massive twats. The traitors actually have more morals than the faithfuls do

QueenOfThorns · 03/12/2022 12:35

I was wondering whether there’ll be some kind of twist at the end where the traitors get encouraged to turn on each other?

I also thought this

Peasepuddingbloodycold · 03/12/2022 15:47

It is fascinating watching.

I reckon the traitors were selected due to having sufficient resilience and "self-deception" to withstand being duplicitous. As in, they are able to persuade themselves it's just a game in order to not crack. There's no way I'd be able to maintain my cover, I'd definitely feel the pressure. So, on that basis I reckon the traitors were selected on the basis of personality tests.

The group nature of it all is fascinating. I like considering the amiability of some people (Meryl, Amanda, Matt etc.) vs those that don't seem so warm and personable (Kay, Nicky etc.) and how much of my judgement is down to my prejudices. Also, the lack of emotional intelligence of Imran who is obviously super intelligent bookwise.

That wheel game - ruthless. Who's the most manipulative, two-faced etc. "Yay! Yay! Yay!".

Also, I feel sorry for Matt, Alex and the producers are stitching him up like a kipper.

DohaDragon · 03/12/2022 19:43

Just watched three episodes on iplayer and am hooked. Was sad Nikki was booted off. Really wanted her to win so she could get a hand.

Beanbagtrap · 03/12/2022 19:48

Ive just caught up with this. It's such a bad show. I don't understand why they don't let you actually watch the tasks, like the bell ringing they cut the actual task (ringing the bells) and just have 10 mins of them squawking around the castle which is just grating to watch.

And the crying. Maybe I'm just a cold fish but why would you cry because someone you hadn't spent much time with had left a game show to go home? It's not like they're being executed on the shores of the loch, unless winkleman has a darker side.

SoyMarina · 03/12/2022 19:59

Beanbagtrap agree totally. Wailing like banshees, covering their faces with their hands, etc over someone they’ve known 10 mins…..making complete fools of themselves!

happinessischocolate · 03/12/2022 22:58

I don't think the wailing and crying is in sympathy of the person they've just banished it's horror that they've got it wrong again.

When they voted nicky off I thought it was genuine horror that they'd all ganged up on someone, but then they did it again to Arran and Imran so it's obviously just them being totally self absorbed.

The only genuine tears are from the traitors who seem to really feel bad about who's getting voted off and why.

TiredOne12345 · 03/12/2022 23:51

I've just caught up today. It's a strange show. Kind of enjoying it though..

Nicky does loads of marathons/triathlons/competitions to raise money for her bionic hand. I know we're not allowed to post money raising links on here but if you're interested, you can Google her and donate.

NibbledSwitch · 04/12/2022 14:32

Plot twist....maybe the real traitor will be the pretty blonde (Alex?) Who swaps her pink haired magician boyfriend for the guy who thinks he's going to be her future husband? 😄

JaneJeffer · 04/12/2022 15:32

Tom and Alex can be the new Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee after this
