Came out today. Nearly finished it already and I love it

I was wary about a Wednesday that wasn’t Christina Ricci but Jenna Ortega rocks it.

Im glad Morticia isn’t in it much though. Not keen on Catherine Zeta-Jones’s interpretation.

I’m going to watch this it looks good

i'm not sure how you can have no spoilers on a binge watch show? I'm assuming all episodes are available now or are they every week?

All 8 episodes are on Netflix, onto the seconding viewing

May I ask why the negativity toward CZJ ?

RememberedForAllTheWrongReasons · 26/11/2022 20:43

It’s brilliant and we are loving it but there are times we can’t actually hear what they are saying properly. Either background music is too loud or they aren’t talking clearly enough sometimes, it’s driving me mad. We have just finished episode 4, looking forward to watching another one tomorrow.

@PolkaDotMankini it is rated 12 so I just wanted to warn you I have had to put my hands over my eyes at times and ask DH if it’s safe to look yet, admittedly I am a scaredy-cat but just wanted you to be aware.

I agree with pp that it is Harry Potter-ish in parts but it is very well done. Took me forever to twig it was Cristina Ricci, I knew she was in it and kept wondering when we would see her then DH finally realised, I still had to really look. The whole thing is really well done.

Soubriquet · 26/11/2022 21:02

I’m letting my 9 year old watch it. It has a few moments where a more sensitive child might not like it, but I’ve let my two kids watch all sorts of films. As long as it isn’t overly gory, nightmare inducing or sexual, I let them watch what the want. I would let my 7 year old watch it too but he’s not interested.

We don’t have a problem with sound because we always use subtitles

She doesn't have Angelica Huston's comic timing, but she does fine for what the role requires, she has some good moments with Wednesday. I think the biggest let down is the lack of chemistry with Gomez.
There have been worse Morticias' but better ones too.

I read they were going for a more Latino Gomez which makes sense..as Gomez is Latino.

But luckily the family themselves are very background. I’m not sure it would have worked as well if they were as main as Wednesday

Apart from Tim Curry, they've cast Latino / Hispanic actors for the last 30 years. Raul Julia, Glenn Taranto, Óscar Hernández Isaac. The difference is those actors, and the ones before played the role with manic energy, Luis Guzmán didn't have that energy.

Can you Imagine the Gomez from Wednesday doing a handstand?

I don’t understand how the kid unstoned himself after his shower?

Enid said herself “it wears off. It only lasts a few hours”

Ah, thanks!

RememberedForAllTheWrongReasons · 27/11/2022 22:47

I love Enid. Such a little ray of sunshine.
I once had a colleague who was permanently positive like Enid, it made me look forward to going to work.

Wagsandclaws · 28/11/2022 11:42

Just finished it and adored it.

I thought czj was excellent and loved uncle fester. I am excited about a second series Smile

RememberedForAllTheWrongReasons · 28/11/2022 19:12

I am also excited to see there will be season 2.

Buteverythingsfine · 28/11/2022 21:23

Wasn't fussed in the first episode, as I think I was comparing it to the film with Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia who were fantastic and looked genuinely in their own little world, and CZJ and the one here were just so...not in love and their fake cooing is really annoying. Once I got over this, I've enjoyed this no end, good one to watch with my teen! Love Enid and Eugene characters.

Buteverythingsfine · 28/11/2022 21:24

Quite funny though, the young Gomez is taller than the young Morticia, but the older Gomez is much shorter. Must have shrunk in the intervening years...

MichelleScarn · 28/11/2022 21:30

Absolutely loved it!

Danikm151 · 28/11/2022 21:32

It was good but could have been any other story about a supernatural school. It didn’t need to be Wednesday

PeloFondo · 28/11/2022 21:34

She was excellent in it! I recommended it to a very sceptical friend who said "I hate teen stuff" and my dad who said "Wednesday, like the Addams family?"

Friend "the visuals! The actress! It's amazing"
Dad is still watching it and glued to it

greenfieldsblueskies · 28/11/2022 22:00

I watched it all over two nights. I kept getting a bit lost in places.. but definitely worth the watch.

imayhavelostmymarbles · 28/11/2022 22:06

My DS 13 is really enjoying it but we are trying to make it last.
Any similar not so scary recommendations? This is about as scary as he and I get!

I don't know what rating it is but fate the winx saga? Don't have DC so check the rating first!!

PolkaDotMankini · 29/11/2022 08:21

Just finished it with the DC on Sunday. They loved it. I ran from my own dining room screaming for DH when something slipped and made a noise in the dark, so definitely more of a scaredy cat than they are! I guessed who the monster & baddie were about halfway through the series but had fun watching it play out.

BearPear · 29/11/2022 08:30

I’m on episode 2, so far feels very Harry Potter to me. My DH was passing by and thought it actually was HP. I read something recently about Tim Burton being problematic in that his “baddie” characters are always black/people of colour and I can’t un-read it and I find myself watching through that lens.
Looking forward to the dance sequence that has been all over social media.

Turmerictolly · 22/12/2022 12:23

New to Wednesday and we love it (teen Ds). It's scarier than I thought it would be for a 12 rating, well gorier I think. Only watched the first one but we'll enjoy this over Xmas.

Soubriquet · 22/12/2022 14:25

I think it depends on your dc really to the spookiness.

I mean, my 7 and 9 year old happily watched it and enjoyed it but I do tend to watch films with them that parents wouldn’t agree with.

As long as it isn’t overly violent or sexual, they can watch pretty much what they want with parental supervision.

AinmÁlainn · 22/12/2022 14:36

We loved it, 10&12 yr old were fine with it but did hide in the cushions for the very tame smooching 😂. I thought Gomez was so dull which brought down Morticia (I usually like CZJ). Loved Enid and Eugene and Jenna Ortega was brilliant.

RayonSunrise · 24/12/2022 16:03

I'm clearly a bit out of step here. I thought it looked great and the lead actress was excellent, but it completely missed the point of the Addams Family. Instead of being a proper social outcast weirdo from a close and loving family of weirdos (which was the charm of the original), this Wednesday is an edgy cool girl who was amazing good at absolutely everything. She was like a Marvel heroine, but goth. And she mostly hated her family, because she was too cool for them, as well.

At least she still seemed to have a nice relationship with Uncle Fester.
