Chris seems out of proportion scared. It’s a TV show, he’s not walking to his death.

This is going to sound weird (and I don't think this is the same reason for Charlene) but I would rather sleep outside, then a confined, possibly stale, smelly RV with no quick route of escape if I came across something nasty in the middle of the night. I would rather be outside with some fresh air and easier to run away in a worst case scenario. But I think that's more of a sensory thing for me more than anything
