Absolutely, @lollipoprainbow. How the writers are treating the female characters is really disappointing. Rita cannot do as many scenes as before, and that's understandable. But where's the evidence they are developing the characters of other strong women?
The current Corrie women seem to spend most of their time simpering over men or being criminals and/or brain addled.
Abby - criminal, crap mum, now rehabilitated to fuss over husband and sons
Sally - fusses around Tim
Aggi - also fusses around Tim
Gail - simpers around Stephen
Audrey - putty in Stephen's hands, apparently now suicidal
Toyah - criminal, easily duped by men
Alya - inconsistent personality syndrome
Yasmeen - now seems to have decided to run round after Stu for a living
Shona - oh let's give her a brain injury and make her say oddball things
Eileen - literal bang on the head and personality transplant
Mary - annoying twat in Am Dram now
Wendy Crozier - fawns over Ken
Tracey - suddenly can only talk about scaffolding
Jenny - boo hoo Leo
Daisy - ooh ooh Daniel
Carla - worries more about Peter than herself or factreh
Fizz - wet as a wet lettuce
Summer - lives to please three dads, boyfriend and even boyfriend's crap dad
Gemma and Bernie - who honestly cares
I don't like these new developments. I want characters like Elsie Tanner, Ena Sharples and Bet Lynch! Not literally the same, but strong (in their own ways), complex, independent-minded and real, like woman have always had to be. Annie Walker was hard as nails. Even Emily was riven through with steely determination. Dear Hilda Ogden was wonderfully nuanced.
