What on Earth happened to Emmerdale?!

I've been catching up on Emmerdale from the past week, starting from the beginning of the 'big storm' last Sunday onwards.

So far...

Amelia was in preterm labour and spent hours screaming relentlessly - did the writers not know how labour and contractions work?

Amelia was in so much excruciating pain that she was able to leap up into the 4x4 to get to hospital like a lamb in Springtime without even being offered a helping hand

Marlon was easily able to hop onto the bed the minute his MIL arrived and barely touched him during the assistance

A minor gust of wind flipped over a car

The storm had been raging for hours before one of the wooden benches outside the pub(?) decided to take itself for walkies

Whenever anyone enters the Dingles' house, someone behind the scenes was throwing leaves and twigs in through the doorway after them

A baby born at 30 weeks is able to stay with its mother without even the need for breathing support or a stay in NICU/SCBU

And many other things besides.

What were the writers thinking? I've watched Emmerdale for years and can honestly say this is the least believable storyline and worst acting since I used to watch Hollyoaks about 15 years ago.

Utterly dreadful.

You’re not wrong.
I don’t watch Emmerdale but saw some clips on Gogglebox.
Dh and I said it was like a parody of a soap opera.
Total rubbish and absolutely unbelievable.

Also, when Liv was trapped under the car, the storm was raging whilst the emergency services approached. Paramedics gave her pain relief then they all left her alone after writing her off due to crush injuries without even trying to get her out despite the fire service being there. By the time they'd given her pain relief (presumably via IV even though she didn't have a cannula), the storm had stopped completely.

I don't know Emmerdale very well but don't they have an antique shop called Acorn Antiques? If not perhaps they should.

AutumnCrow · 23/10/2022 07:32

It was like Crossroads, wasn't it? Possibly straying into Acorn Antiques territory with the death of Liv and the emergency services just buggering off leaving her there. 'There's nothing we can do, chaps. Stiff upper lip and all that. Say your goodbyes, and carry on'. <Emergency services pick up a few twigs and leave the set>

The bit I saw on gogglebox was ridiculous!
The acting is painful and the story line laughable

Why do people watch this shite ?? So weird that it's been going so long!

Doesn't say much about the Intelligence level of its watchers , I know we are all different but it's so so bad !

Squiff70 · 23/10/2022 07:44

I'm not disagreeing with any of you! I can't stand Gogglebox but will have to seek this out just for a laugh.

50th anniversary special? It'll go down in TV history as the crappest anniversary special ever.

I wish they would have just a few happily married couples in the soaps.

CherryogDog · 23/10/2022 08:51

I thought Liv looked very perky with immaculate make up considering she was dying.

Hmm... Marlon and Rhona.

I would say Moira and Cain but let's pause that for now, I hope they come through as they're my faves.

Sam and Lydia.

That's was difficult. I was trying to think if anyone actually was married and also happy. I'm surprised I remembered anyone.

I only watch 'the soaps' in the background with these threads running simultaneously because they're so entertaining.

There ain't no commentary like an MN commentary.
