Tony and James ought to be in the dance off, though Jayde and Kym are not improving. Bit disappointed with Kym, she has no oomph.

RoachTheHorse · 23/10/2022 06:27

I was so meh about tonight if searches the spoiler out, (don't worry. No giving it away will happen from me), as I don't know if I can be arsed watching tonight.

Halloween next week too. More theme week daftness.

icelollycraving · 23/10/2022 07:58

Jayde was terrible. No actual steps, just Karen twirling around her. Possibly the most unflattering outfits ever. She is treated very cautiously because of her size, presumably because they know they run the risk of people thinking it’s bullying. The ballroom dance to Bette Midler a few weeks ago was good but this was just rubbish.
Kim got a hard time. She’s very measured, I want to see her let go a bit. She was very sweaty, wondered if she was a bit poorly. I wouldn’t be just sweaty, I’d need an oxygen mask. Certainly wouldn’t be running up the stairs after either. Her dress was all my strictly dreams!
James is the dancer I expect to see in the dance off each week. Eastenders has a massive fan base though.
I agreed with Craig tonight a lot. I thought Fleur was good but heavy.
I’d like to see Tony play it straight, he is improving and looks really hurt when the feedback is harsh.
Will was my favourite tonight.

Figgygal · 23/10/2022 08:01

I'm watching it now as couldnt face it live last night which is very unheard of for me and my kids
I went into hating the thought of it was mildly charmed by the opening dance but it's been downhill from there
Ellie and nikita I enjoyed thats as far as I've got
I'd love to see Vito do a jive with a pro after that

AlecTrevelyan006 · 23/10/2022 08:02

The themed weeks are usually disappointing

Samcro · 23/10/2022 08:10

voted Hamza, Ellie s and Tony.
Helen was brilliant but only had 3 votes and she is safe.
wasn't keen on the music , thought the line of duty one was so irritating it ruined the dance.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 23/10/2022 08:17

@AlecTrevelyan006

True, but I enjoyed last night, oddly enough. No ridiculous meerkat costumes for a start. Slightly strange with the theme tunes and almost no vocals, but it was a change, something different, and good fun imho.

multicolouredblouse · 22/10/2022 23:02

I don't like the way the judges sat laughing as they were giving their comments to Tony. Seems unprofessional to me. I think he's doing his best and looks a bit hurt at them not taking him seriously.

Me too. He's working hard, improving every week, and deserves to be taken seriously. I'd rather watch him dance than Jayde, for example.

FolornLawn · 23/10/2022 08:40

Craig was spot on that Jayde just wasn’t putting in enough energy, also the choreography didn’t help, there were plenty of arms but the rest was standing and stomping.

Eastenders man and Amy are the perfect storm of attractive, competent and charisma-free.

LaMarschallin · 23/10/2022 08:42

Am I the only one who remembers the original Come Dancing?
I was barely out of the womb, of course <cough>, but particularly remember all the details they used to give about the - often homemade - dresses.
Things like "28 layers of tulle" and "80 squillion sequins...and she sewed all of them on by herself" became proper catch phrases.

SoupDragon · 23/10/2022 08:58

I do remember it, and the hand sewn sequins phrase, but we never watched it. It wasn't the sort of thing my parents watched.

SoupDragon · 23/10/2022 09:00

elephantseal · 23/10/2022 08:37

Me too. He's working hard, improving every week, and deserves to be taken seriously. I'd rather watch him dance than Jayde, for example.

I don't think it is a problem. The laughing isn't mean laughing IMO. I think they all say how enjoyable it is to watch him and how he has thrown himself into it and is oozing joy.

SoupDragon · 23/10/2022 09:05

Actually, that's what dance should be isn't it? Joy rather than technical competence.i know it's theoretically a dance completion but I'd much rather watch Tony throw himself into it 100% than the ones who just have to turn up and learn the steps. I enjoyed watching Ed Balls for the same reason (Evil Genius Katya again!)

ChessieFL · 23/10/2022 09:06

Agree that it’s time for Jayde to go. I hadn’t heard of her before Strictly and I’m afraid I find her rather irritating. I also agree with others that last night’s dance was a wasted opportunity with the choreography- as well as using the Woman’s Weekly there was also the opportunity for a hostess trolley! And yes they should have been dressed as Barry and Freda not Victoria.

I voted for Tony, because he’s putting in so much effort and I really enjoy his routines (Katya is so clever at getting the best out of her celebrity), Kym because she was very undermarked and the judges (except Craig, oddly) were too harsh, and Hamza because I think he’s just fab, although I know he probably didn’t really need my vote. I’ll be very annoyed if Kym or Tony is sent home ahead of Jayde. I haven’t seen any spoilers so this is all pure speculation.

I agree with a pp that I think the judges are bigging up Jayde because the producers don’t want to lose both same sex partnerships early in the competition. I would love to see a good same sex partnership win Strictly (loved J&J last year) but sadly both same sex partnerships this year just haven’t been very good.

LaMarschallin · 23/10/2022 09:11

SoupDragon · 23/10/2022 08:58

I do remember it, and the hand sewn sequins phrase, but we never watched it. It wasn't the sort of thing my parents watched.

It was obligatory at ours because my mother was a very keen ballroom dancer. She'd been asked to form a competitive partnership in her youth, but decided against it.
I wish I'd paid more attention to her comments now, as she really knew what she was talking about, but might have been too much of a purist to enjoy all the Strictly additions. She'd have approved of Len.

LaMarschallin · 23/10/2022 09:15

And, yes, I'm another who would happily see the back of Jayde.
Although, fair play, she didn't work herself up into tears last night about the death of Victoria Wood.
I'd have put folding money on her doing so, but, I suppose, even the soggiest celebrity must eventually pick up on the fact that it begins to irritate the viewers after a while.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 23/10/2022 09:18

she was harping on rather a lot about victoria wood i felt

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 23/10/2022 09:34

I caught glimpses of Come Dancing before bed, back in the day. I’ve always assumed it was on very late, but more likely, my bedtime was unfairly early, thinking about it now (rolls eyes). Definitely remember the 800 sequins and she sewed them on herself thing.

Since Strictly’s so keen on themes they should do a Come Dancing week, contestants and pro dances/costumes all modelled on the authentic ballroom competitions of yore.

ArcaneWireless · 23/10/2022 09:37

I remember LaMarschallin

I loved Come Dancing.

I smell wood polish, floor polish, hot netting and max factor powder when I think of it. Happy days.

I didn’t care for Fleur, Molly or Jayde dancing. The latter more so.

I’m unsure if it was just the dancing or the music (‘sake though) - it didn’t do it for me at all. It just felt a bit meh de deux.

I like that Tone and James are really trying and that makes me want them to stay.

Will 🥰 love that music though.

Im sure Victoria Wood would be happy for this to be Jayde’s swan song. (Rip genius woman 😢)

Let’s do it.

Let’s do it. Vote and get the woman gone.
Twas prancing, not dancing,
we clearly cannot blame the song.
Just rotten, I’ve gotten
An opinion inwhich words problys are verboten,
Let’s do it, let’s get her gooooooo-one.

LaMarschallin · 23/10/2022 09:39

ArcaneWireless

Excellent! Grin

Tabbouleh · 23/10/2022 09:46

I watched on catchup and fast forwarded through most of it. God, I hate theme weeks. Didn't enjoy anyone really because either the music didn't work or the costumes were distracting. Did not vote. For the love of god, Wardrobe, give Ellie T a pretty dress. She is such an attractive woman.

Please let Jayde be gone. I cannot endure her stomping any more.

Nikita deserves a special medal.

Frostine · 23/10/2022 09:49

The show is about dance and entertainment . The person that least danced & entertained was Jayde . The 2nd person who least danced ( well ) but entertained was Tony. So going by that , they could be in the dance off , but Tony has a good fan base as he entertains us. I think at the moment in the show the majority vote for the celebrity they like the best of at least recognise . It will take a few more weeks before it gets to skills alone .

ArcaneWireless · 23/10/2022 09:55

And quickstep to ballroom blitz should have been the bollox. And with that frock 😍😍😍

But aye, bless Kym, it was flatter than a witch’s….

(well it is almost Halloween…)

Matildahoney · 23/10/2022 10:06

I can't keep up with this thread 🤣 someone may have already said it so apologies if they have, Craig was very right about Fleur being heavy footed, jive is supposed to be light with flicks and kicks toward to floor, not look like you're about to boot someone down the road.
Shirley seems to have gone from under marking all the females to over marking them now after all the backlash when she said she wouldn't have saved Fleur over the couple that went! All the marking seems to be very inconsistent! It's poor, and as for the judges telling Tyler there should be some standing still in the Tango, he didn't choreograph it! That's on Dianne.

SolInvictus · 23/10/2022 10:17

Haven't watched yet, so just placemarking.
Sounds like I missed an 'interesting' show!
@ArcaneWireless brilliant!
