Agree with Sol. Also agree with LaMarschallin - from what I’ve heard about VW she would hate to be used as a sobfest on Strictly!

chaosmaker · 17/10/2022 08:34

The people voting for Jayde would be her legion of fans, I imagine. This thread has become an echo chamber of Jayde hate. Also it is not someone's fault what the judges decide to score them too high(see also: people getting bad scores when they deserve higher ones).
Bros were awful and happily short lived. Matt is better off the show as he really wasn't very good. I also don't understand all the speculation about Kym's motives.....?

The thing about Jayde is that her Strictly run will come to an end very soon. From my experience, sympathy votes might make a couple scrape through an extra week or so but it wears thin very quickly. Then, unless a couple can actually dance or are hugely entertaining they get booted out anyway.

Everyone gets to play their sympathy joker card once. You don’t want to play it too soon in case you need it later. And if you play it the same week as someone else then the sympathy gets diluted. Wait too long and you might never get the chance to use it.

it’s a right dilemma

It's not "hate" to judge someone's dancing skills on a dance show. If you have seen examples of "hate" on here (not just criticism) then you must report it.

FKATondelayo · 17/10/2022 09:29

I'm gonna go against the tide and say I absolutely loved Tyler's Couple's Choice so ner. There was a bit too much crotch grabbing though - expected to pull his draws off Tony/Full Monty style at one point.

I was shocked that Shirley didn't know any of the garage music that Tyler and Dianne were dancing too.

Yeah, me too, Shirley is only about a decade older than me and garage is my generation. Surely if you work in dance and entertainment you listen to a wide variety of music, especially when your job calls on you to know it.

Matt just has a huge well of sadness in him. Didn't know about his sister and his mum - but I did start to wildly theorise about his early experiences in the music business and the predators hanging around young pretty boys. I need to go and have a look at the documentary they did a couple of years ago.

Samcro · 17/10/2022 09:32

i don't hate jade, just think she is stompy and full of herself.
Shirley is a pain as a judge as she always has favorites or people who doesn't like(hot younger women like Fleur)

SoupDragon · 17/10/2022 09:47

This thread has become an echo chamber of Jayde hate.

This is a ridiculous type of argument that is trotted out whenever there is a difference of opinion. Personally, I have no idea who she is and just don't think she dances very well at all. Which is odd given she did years of dance as a child - I would have thought she would still retain the muscle memory of how to move to some extent. It's not a size thing - Hamza is amazingly light on his feet with no stompiness.

SoupDragon · 17/10/2022 09:49

I was thinking about the dance off last night. I would much prefer Matt to have gone through because he was improving and letting go. Kym is just going to plod along at the same level before being eliminated as a mid table "also ran".

yes, by the rules of the programme she was the better dancer in the dance off but she hasn't made any progress really whereas Matt was significantly better this week.

God, it's so lazy isn't it? Just to shut down any difference of opinion.
You're right about her years of disco competition and the comparison to Hamza.
Which is not hate, it's an opinion 🙄

FartOutLoudDay · 17/10/2022 10:04

I was expecting to like Kym a lot, I remember her from the original PopStars and used to watch Corrie a bit when she was in it. But she just seems quite flat, it’s hard to put my finger on. I can see what people mean when they say she looks like she’s going through the motions. Which is a shame as I think she could put on a really spectacular performance if she wanted to.

FartOutLoudDay · 17/10/2022 10:06

I was also expecting to love Jayde as the bits of her stand up I saw before the show I liked. But she isn’t making progress like some of the others. I don’t think it helped that she appeared to be dancing in clogs on Saturday night, but she does come off as stompy (Ellie Simmonds does too to a lesser extent but it must be difficult to project bounce when you don’t have height to work with - Jayde has loads of height!)

ArcaneWireless · 17/10/2022 10:08

It is like anything here. Opinions will differ.

I actually agreed with Shirl about Fleur when she danced off with Richie. Although she looked more technically competent, for one of Fleur’s favourite songs and being the dream to dance to, it fell flat for me. Molly feels the same for me. Kym as well.

I think almost everyone else disagreed about Fleur. Sometimes different eyes see different things. It doesn’t make anyone wrong.

I don’t hate Jayde either but for me her change from sob to yasss felt very swift and somewhat uncomfortable. I don’t like the nose bopping either. It just seems to be an unnecessary thing to make a thing.

Also for what it is worth, I think the fuss last week has taken a bit of the shine from Shirl and her responses seemed very considered. Stilted even. .Like she’s been muzzled. And I think that is a shame.

We all see different things. Enjoy different dances. It doesn’t make it an echo chamber of hate if we have vastly differing opinions.

It just means we have differing opinions and see things with different eyes and feel different things.

Rosehugger · 17/10/2022 10:16

You choose to do your whole VT/training wotsit talking about your sister and then someone kindly mentions her name and you are rendered speechless with sobs for 20 seconds till your vote is in? I felt very sorry for Claudia, who was clearly "what the fuck have I done"

It's clear to me that some people just lack empathy, or are only half-watching while they fuck about on their phones, or in a bad mood or something. We were in tears watching at home and it was clear that Claudia saying her name would set Jayde off.

I hope she stays in a little while longer purely to piss off Daily Mail readers who clearly loathe Jayde and Karen. I hope they stew in their own bile. At this point she fully deserves to be still in the competition.

xsquared · 17/10/2022 10:16

I expected Jayde to be better than she is at the moment amd given her experience.

However, I still dont think she's the worst. She's got more personality in her dancing than say James, who has just been meh for weeks.

She's got a couple more weeks I reckon.

Rosehugger · 17/10/2022 10:17

Yes, I'm really disappointed with Kim, though I thought there was a slight improvement this week. The routine was all a bit basic and old hat which didn't help. It was all a bit series 5.

SoupDragon · 17/10/2022 10:25

Ah... "daily mail readers". Another classic insult when there is a difference of opinion.

although if you've seen nasty comments in the DM you must be a DM reader yourself...

How judgmental.
I wasn't in tears, although I felt for her loss, as I did Matt's. I just think her performance was overmarked.
No bile. Disclaimer: I haven't read a DM article on them, so please don't stereotype.

In that case my comment was not addressed to you.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 17/10/2022 10:34

@ArcaneWireless

Absolutely this.

As for Shirley, she appeared on Loose Women last week, talking about her admiration for the celebs, presumably to counter the idea that she takes against certain attractive young females every series, and there was a piece in the DM saying Shirley only comes in for that kind of criticism because the show’s biased against older women in the first place.

I don’t agree with the latter myself, but someone somewhere along the line has been bothered enough about how Shirley’s coming across to try and cast her in a better light.

Tabbouleh · 17/10/2022 10:37

I just don't think Jayde is an even adequate dancer. As simple as that. I don't think she deserves to stay in.
It should be possible to say this without the ad hominem attacks.

I don't watch the VTs closely so no idea about their personalities. Often watch on catchup, or am clearing up the kitchen.Judging purely on her dance abilities, she can barely get up off the floor and is very heavy footed ( is that a word?) Unlike Hamza.

I was not in a bad mood, nor "fucking about on my phone" either.

Bit of a guilty conscience though it seems.

Shock Series 5 was amazing!

Obviously people can think different things, but I think it had a brilliant mix of personalities and some really talented dancers, and lots really improving over the weeks. It's probably my favourite series.

I’m not sure either that Shirl is being signalled out for being the age she is.

And aye, someone cares enough to get her to mind her tongue. Maybe because they think it is tarnishing Strictly’s wholesome luvvy image.

I don’t agree with women being muzzled because they are not all sweetness and gushy.

It ticks me off.
