They need to bring back the theme tune from Howard’s Way!

ClownSchool · 16/10/2022 21:13

Just popping in with a guess for University Challenge theme tune and they’ll probably dress Ellie T as Mr Tumble or Bill and Ben

Will Tyler get to dress up as Dipsy again?

She's dancing to Casualty

She'll probably be in scrubs then. Poor Ellie.

When Matt was at the height of his fame with Bros, his sister was killed by a drunk driver. Then while he was living in Los Angeles with his mum, she had breast cancer and he nursed her until she died. He's been through a lot. I hope being on Strictly has helped him in some way, bless him.

I didn't know that about his sister, what a dreadful tragedy.

EsmaCannonball · 16/10/2022 21:55

Sailing By would make for a lovely nostalgic waltz (I'm seeing someone in a fisherman's jumper, smoking a pipe while stacking lobster pots - hopefully with Scott Mills not still in one).

I know I joked about someone doing 'Allo 'Allo on the other thread, but that really works for a VW. It would really tickle me if Will had to focus his hen-night-stripper persona into being horny Rene. Would Nancy be Yvette or Edith?

Clawdy · 16/10/2022 21:58

So Matt lost his sister tragically too, but didn't exploit his grief as Jayde did.

Rainbowcat99 · 16/10/2022 22:04

I enjoyed the pro's group dance for a change although the same sex couple dancing has been done to death now.

Done?
As a lesbian I love the fact that same sex couples are finally becoming a normal part of life after spending most of my life looking around at heterosexual couples and feeling like a misfit 🤷🏽‍♀️
I hope strictly carry on having a balance of same and opposite sex couples. Why on Earth not?

I thought the professional's dance was lovely.

Who were the two women though, couldn't work it out?

Surely if anything has been 'done to death' it is M/F partnership. They have been around forever!

Aye. But it’ll have a slack handful of sequins on each hem.

Vicky Gill isn’t a monster 😉

EvilRingahBitch · 16/10/2022 22:11

I think the female leads in the pro dance were Luba and Karen. Nice to see the female pros taking a lead after Carlos and Nikita's amazingly hot Argentine Tango/Rumba last week. Luba did well with the lifts as well given that Karen's not teeny like Janette or Jowita.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 16/10/2022 22:14

Just hopping on to the thread. Glad that Matt’s gone because he seemed so fragile - just broken by life really. This seemed like torture for him in some ways, so I think it’s better that it’s not prolonged.

Maireas · 16/10/2022 22:15

I thought the pro dance was brilliant, Luba and Karen were a great pairing.
I also thought I saw Kai and JoJo.

EdieLedwell · 16/10/2022 22:24

Strictly has really normalised same sex couples dancing IMO. It was such a big moment when JoJo and Graz took to the floor a few years ago.

To me it's odd now that people feel the need to comment every time it happens.

xsquared · 16/10/2022 22:24

@Rainbowcat99 @OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit

To me, it just feels like another box ticking exercise and the BBC saying "Oh look how inclusive we are".
We get it.

Loved Matt’s goodbye speech and I was sad to see him go. I much preferred to watch him than Kym.

She seems like she can’t really be arsed and is doing a half hearted bare minimum attempt at dancing with no real concern whether she’s there or not.

I don't recall Claudia or Tess making any comment at all about how daring or inclusive or special either of the recent same-sex-focussed pro dances were. I didn't see any publicity from the BBC indicating anything of the kind either. They were treated exactly like every other pro dance except that they featured same sex couples dancing in a romantic/sexy way.

I think you may be making up your own narrative.

xsquared · 16/10/2022 22:33

I wasn't too surprised that Kym was in the dance off given she was in the middle of the leaderboard.

Matt was starting to feel confident about dancing this week, but you could see that he was still struggling.
His goodbye speech was lovely, and his encouraging the rest of the contestants to smash it was very gracious of him.

Didn't know this... poor guy. I feel I misjudged him early on and expected a huge 'pop star' type ego. In fact he was the opposite of that and I felt terribly fragile. I wish he had hung around a bit longer as I think it would have helped him.

xsquared · 16/10/2022 22:35

Well, I think we'll have to agree to disagree @EvilRingahBitch .
