The inconsistency of the scoring is infuriating. Either it's time to have perfect nailed down footwork or it isn't but it's totally unfair to nitpick one celeb on technique then mark the next person the same when they lack technique and content. I wonder if it's time for each judge to start giving two marks - a technical one for footwork, frame, amount of actual dance content of the relevant steps etc and an artistic impression mark that would cover the entertainment aspects (with the technical mark given a higher weighting in case of a draw, so if two couples both scored 60 out of 80 the one that got 35 for technical and 25 for artistic mark would get 1st place while the pair that got 30/30 would be in second). That would allow Craig to acknowledge that Tony's samba while far from technically perfect was brilliantly entertaining.

Ed doing Gangnam Style is one of my go to Strictly videos when I need cheering up.

I was wondering this last night and came to the conclusion that he's a bit of an odd shape trouser-wise and so perhaps quite difficult to fit properly. He's not fat exactly but has a sort of stocky tummy which pulls the trousers up a bit higher and causes the tightness.

It wouldn't surprise me if he's had plastic surgery that isn't 'quite ideal', so instead of hiding sins of a middle aged man, it looks worse if you don't dress a certain way.

For example those men who have surgery to make it look like they have a six pack but then carry too much weight are hilarious but also dreadfully sad.

I totally agree with your first sentences. When Shirley said last night that she was putting them all on notice of footwork (think it was relating to heel leads) I literally said to DH 'until it is a celeb she likes then she will conveniently overlook it'. She is my least favourite judge and that is saying something as Anton irritates the hell out of me Grin

And is Jayde so touchy feely with Karen- in all the VT's, she seems to be all over her and constantly staring lovingly at her Hmm

FKATondelayo · 09/10/2022 13:50

So sick of the same old same old on movie week - I like Dirty Dancing as much as any gen Z woman but enough is enough. And no excuse to hook in a completely unsuitable film (Jurassic Park) because the BBC seems to be doing some free PR for it.

There are so many films with great theme tunes and suited to Strictly that have never or rarely been done. These would all be brilliant.

Black Panther - Pray for Me
Love Actually - Jump
Some Like It Hot - I wanna be loved by you
Greatest Showman
About a Boy - Killing Me Softly
Casablanca - As Time Goes By
The Bodyguard - been done before I think but not loads
Moonstruck - That's Amore
Breakfast at Tiffany's - Moon River
Big Lebowski - Just Dropped In
Breakfast Club - Don't You Forget About Me

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/10/2022 13:53

An Affair to Remember could be a lovely waltz.

My most leftfield idea - Argentinian Tango to Lose Yourself from 8 Mile Grin

Arnaquer · 09/10/2022 13:59

I'm so submerged in SCD that quite often I'll hear a song on the radio and think ' now that would be great for a quickstep ' like I have the first clue about it.

ellebelli · 09/10/2022 14:18

I enjoyed Wills dance,it was sexy for a ballroom, though i do think it helps when it is a song that you like and i do indeed like that song.
Tony made me smile, as did Tyler.
Most of the others bored me,and the opening pro dance was dreadful.
I do feel for Matt and therefore would like him to stay in this time and for the dance off to be between Jayde and James(or Ellie T)
I felt Nadyia really shone last series with her partner(can't remember his name) and feel it is a shame she got Matt, but I don't want to see them go just yet.
Will is my fave so far and I loved that he said Nancy is as mad as a box of frogs!!!-I cannot take to her.

Figgygal · 09/10/2022 14:51

Just caught up
No idea who was my favourite theres still so many of them at the moment im pretty
Indifferent

mydogisthebest · 09/10/2022 15:04

Why on earth did Karen and Jayde finish the show? Normally they put the best dance last and that certainly was not the best or even among the best.

It was awful with Jayde plodding around, looking ridiculous on the floor and then struggling to get up. How was she given such high scores for that?

I admire her that she is so at ease with herself. I am fairly large and no way would I ever be brave enough to wear a leotard but being at ease with your weight does not equal good dancing.

I hope she goes tonight.

xsquared · 09/10/2022 16:26

I have unfollowed the BBC Strictly FB page so I'm not tempted to read the comments, and thus being spoilered.

No idea who will go tonight though.

What a feeling has been done too often, and I wish they'd do a jive to Maniac instead.

Feel sorry for James and Amy, as they are so bland and forgettable. I hope he gets a decent dance next week.

Not fussed about Jayde but Karen was mesmerising to watch last night.

It looks like Dianne has a decent partner this year so I hope she goes far.

Katya is very good at bringing out the best in her celebrity. Their routine was fun and I felt that people were laughing with them rather than at Tony. I hope they stay another week.

Felt very meh about Ellie T last night.

Gooseysgirl · 09/10/2022 16:32

I ended up giving Matt my three votes last night because I would like to see him do one more week, and hopefully improve... but I'm guessing he'll be in the DO again. Hated Richie's samba, overmarked, Jayde's dance was stompy and also overmarked. How on earth Tyler performed that dance after running a marathon a few days ago I do not know - he is some athlete!!! I am utterly baffled as to how Jayde and Fleur have the same scores... I thought Fleur's score was about right but no way was Jayde's dance at the same level.

JemimaTab · 09/10/2022 17:13

I was a bit baffled by Jayde’s scoring too. I thought it was OK (not great), and I don’t mind Jayde, but it was definitely overmarked. Also, with some of the judges’ comments, and the fact it was the last dance, I got the feeling Jayde’s dance was being built up to be a “big moment”. Which was odd, because there have been plenty of larger celebs on the show before. And same-sex partnerships too. It wasn’t groundbreaking or anything.

TitsInAbsentia · 09/10/2022 17:25

FuzzyPuffling · 09/10/2022 09:32

I can't love Richie because he adds the extra 'h' into words..."shtrong", "shtreet" and it annoys the hell out of me. ( And don't give me the "it's dialect" line...I lived in the West Midlands for over 20 years and never heard it there)

Cannot listen if he's doing traffic and travel, I don't want to know about a broken down BUZZ....it's a chuffin' bus dude!

Went on Twitter and saw the Strictly spoiler inadvertently. Well.

I have to stay off twitter as there is always some douche who puts it out there with random hashtags so it comes up in your feed!

I don't get it either. Nothing wrong with being obese (well apart from the obvious health risks) but it's nothing to celebrate. Every week she can hardly string a sentence together as she is so breathless. Even the bit upstairs when she's had time to catch her breath she pants and pants.

My most leftfield idea - Argentinian Tango to Lose Yourself from 8 Mile Grin

Love it! Send an email to the producers now! Although oh....performed by Dave Arch and his band...probably put the screechy woman on vocals!

DillDanding · 09/10/2022 17:55

I’ve only just caught up with it. Thankful to be able to fast forward on catch up through the endless guff - this programme is really too long.

Anyway, I am still getting over Jade. How over marked was she? People are so keen to be seen as ‘body positive’, they’re falling over themselves. She looked absolutely ridiculous and I felt awkward even watching it.

Ellie T was very bland. Tony Adams’ routine was great - funny and full of effort. What SCD used to be. Matt’s terrible but I think he’ll get lots of votes. I reckon Richie for the chop.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/10/2022 18:01

She didn't actually dance the full 90 seconds either, there was ages at the beginning before she started. She's definitely good at hearing the rhythm and dancing in time, so goodness knows why that bit on the floor was needed.

Claymorekick · 09/10/2022 18:01

Hamza is big too but is managing to dance/appear without referencing it all the time 🤷‍♀️ it definitely feels like Jayde is drawing attention to her size to deflect any criticism or claim 'fat-shaming' if anyone dare criticise her. When it is in fact that she just isn't very good!

ilovebrie8 · 09/10/2022 18:06

Hope it is Jayde to go tonight ! Way over marked...

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/10/2022 18:10

I remember the days of John Barnes weighing himself in training and saying how much he wanted to get back in shape!

NancyPickford · 09/10/2022 18:21

Just to get back to the problem of Matt's consistently ill-fitting trousers, is it because he has very short legs and a very long torso? I can't figure it out.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/10/2022 18:25

The pale colours makes it more obvious too. In black it probably wouldn't look as bad.
