I agree that generally Couple’s Choice is rubbish and they should get rid of it - BUT without CC we wouldn’t have had Rose and Giovanni’s silent dance to Symphony, or Faye and Giovanni’s theatre jazz skeletons dancing to Fever, or Bill and Oti’s Rapper’s Delight. Most of it is rubbish though.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 11/10/2022 07:39

@FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge & @JacquelineCarlyle - I seem to remember she had her way with Chicken Stu under the BB kitchen table eventually 😆

SoupDragon · 11/10/2022 07:57

I like Couple's Choice. It's often far better than the shit Rumbas.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/10/2022 08:14

Couple's Choice dances I've liked are:

  • Charles & Karen
  • Faye & Giovanni
  • Bill & Oti
  • Rose & Giovanni

And that's it.

I don't mind if they keep it, but it should only be for the later weeks (like the Argentine Tango), perhaps for the final 6.

Novum · 11/10/2022 08:17

Couple's choice would be fine if they would ban contempowaft. Dances that consist of people floating around in bare feet looking soulful leave me completely cold.

RUMBAS give me the absolute cringe usually I liked Hamza on Saturday and I remember Gio and Debbeh did a nice one. Not the sleazy crawling up each other ones urgh !

I like couples choice its something different.

the80sweregreat · 11/10/2022 09:57

The Rumba is just people having illicit sexual encounters! Sometimes they are a bit less close ( Sophie Ellis Baxter with Brendon , but I don't blame her there !) but mostly it must be hard to do especially if you don't like your partner much of they have bad breath or something !

Oh nono the thought of it 😫

the80sweregreat · 11/10/2022 10:06

It's how I see this particular dance !! .. lol
Mind you , I've two left feet myself , so it wouldn't look remotely sexy.

Mrsjayy · 11/10/2022 10:29

It's too much 😃

CousinTime · 11/10/2022 10:48

Are the pro competitions (not strictly) full of horribly orange tanned people and wet looking Lego slicked hairstyles? Neighbours kids did it and it was hosspboe seeing little kids fake tanned like they had been tangoed and hair glued to their head. That puts me off trying to watch any of the non strictly competitions. Strictly doesn’t seem as orange/Lego helmet hair.

SoupDragon · 11/10/2022 11:52

To clarify... I'm sure pro rumbas are great. The vast majority of contestant ones on Strictly are shit.

JacquelineCarlyle · 11/10/2022 12:03

I agree @SoupDragon, although I did like Gio & Debbie's rhumba. Can't remember any others but they're always a bit grim!

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 11/10/2022 12:17

It's the 'need' for a sob story to go with couples choice that I dislike. I find them really emotionally manipulative. If they just got on with dancing theatre/street/jazz number it wouldn't be too bad but the whole attempt to buy votes for floating about in a sheet and barefeet because the neighbour's dog sitters Nan has dementia really annoys me.
Convey emotion through the dance not through a bloody weepy sales pitch.
Most of the ones mentioned above as great CC were not saddled with emotive back stories I notice.

cordelia16 · 11/10/2022 13:16

I was one of the few who could not stand Kelvin in general, but I absolutely loved his rumba with Oti.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 11/10/2022 14:49

Hamza’s rumba generally wasn’t very well received on here (if I’ve got that right) but I liked it, probably because it wasn’t a touchy feely one. Rumbas can be totally cringe, and I agree, we seldom see a good one on Strictly.

Cheri Lunghi did a nice one with James Jordan many years ago.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 11/10/2022 14:58

James & Cherie’s was lovely & for once the dress was amazing

Figgygal · 11/10/2022 15:08

Jay and Aliona did a good Rumba
Not many of them around

I think it was the concept that wasn't well received - i.e. the film/music choice were totally unsuitable rather than execution which was fine (in my total non expert opinion).

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 11/10/2022 15:17

So who’s done the worst ever rumba on Strictly? I can’t think, but very possibly Anton’s in it 😆

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 11/10/2022 15:22

Otters
Yes, that’s probably it. (I liked the concept/music too) 😁

Nope, still can't see sexy dance of love and out of control pre-historic killers! 🦖👩‍❤️‍👨

Laila didn't finish hers - injury porn. Anton picks her up at the end when she cannot carry on.
