All of that @Tabbouleh plus no props.

To be honest I'd be happy just to get rid of Hallowe'en week. I sigh every year as songs and outfits that don't match the dance.

Also, bring back losing points for not sticking to the brief of the dance.

MinglingFlamingo · 10/10/2022 19:51

*If I were the tyrannical queen of Strictly I would:

Get rid of movie and Halloween night* I don't mind Halloween week but I agree get rid of movie week, it's the first proper week and too soon for a theme week

Get rid of couples choice agree 100%

Replace Shirley with Karen Hardy and Motsi with literally anyone replace Motsi for Oti perhaps

Get a better group dance choreographer who can focus on dancing the main 10s the group dances are a mixed bag. Does Jason Gilkerson have much to do with them these days???

No contempowaft or street dance. Just the main 10s I quite like the jazz one they sometimes do. I can't be doing with the bearfoot floaty dances

Give poor Luba a decent partner
I can think of several on this category

Taytocrisps · 10/10/2022 20:32

I'm very late to the Strictly party this year. I had a busy few weekends and missed the first three shows (didn't get to record them either). I did watch Saturday's show and the last few minutes of the results show. I'm all at sea. I only ever know one or two of the celebrities and this year is no exception - the only celeb I've heard of is Matt Goss because I'm old enough to remember Bros. Still trying to get my head around who is who and there are some new pros also.

DD and I have done a draw to make it more fun/interesting. We split the remaining contestants in half.

Bit of a shocker that Giovanni is gone already - he was so prominent in the last series. DD had him in the draw. Missing Aljaz also.

I'm sure I've said this before but (as a non-dancer) I'd love a very quick intro. into the different dances and what we should be looking out for. Sometimes Shirley's criticism is quite technical and I don't know what she means. It would be good if they did brief re-plays, like they do in football matches.

I agree with previous comments about Shirley's catty comments and the judges (mainly Motsi and Shirley I think) doing standing ovations and swaying etc. It's very unprofessional.

Craig is my favourite judge and I wish the audience would stop booing and let him say his piece. He usually starts with the negative criticism but ends on a positive note. But as soon as he says anything negative, the audience start booing and then we can't hear the rest of his comments.

Thanks again to the very knowledgeable posters who share their expertise with those of us who have little or no dance experience.

This was on recently — only Latin-focussed unfortunately, but you get to see Blackpool and plenty of dancing.

Thank you. I know practically nothing about dance - I just know that I like watching it and this looks great!

Aquarius1234 · 10/10/2022 21:27

Richie was awful on Saturday, not sure why anyone is surprised he went or was in bottom 2.

the80sweregreat · 10/10/2022 21:34

The 80s were fun for me as I was young and had money and a waist back then !
It soon went downhill !

He wasn't in the bottom two and certainly wasn't the worst.

I think Tony is struggling with being the joke contestant. I'd like to see the judges acknowledge how hard he's worked and how much he's learned before he leaves.

I completely agree with this. Anton's comment was a bit mean as Tony isn't acting like a joke contestant. He's taking it seriously, trying very hard and actually doing a decent job with the dancing (& a great job with the entertaining!!)

Anton was crap as a pro as he turned all his celebrities into jokes even if they could move. I didn't think he was that great a teacher and was totally rubbish at Latin - Katya is in another league as a dancer / teacher / choreographer so will always make her celebrity look good. He is doing well as a judge though and I love him in that role!

Controversially, I also think Tess is great! She looks amazing and does a great job holding it all together!

Sunbird24 · 10/10/2022 21:40

I do think maybe Richie suffered this week from comparison with the previous week - went from the sublime to the ridiculous.

SequinsandStilettos · 10/10/2022 21:40
  1. because people forget that with ties, mid-table is not safe
  2. because kiddy vote usually helps with Movie week (e.g. a pokemon paso, a kung fu panda samba etc)
  3. because pink vote usually helps with LGBTQIA+ contestants
  4. because Disney themes are popular enough, they have they their own week in the US
  5. because the couple had gained traction with their QS
  6. because Gio is a beloved pro (although it is a fallacy that a pro fan base will be enough to keep in a sleb in early stages)
  7. because arguably there were 3-4 other contestants who were just as bad/had little content performed well

Richie was marmite on here, but I didn't mind his enthusiasm. I just preferred Tony for balls/joy/slow improvement and used my votes accordingly.

I wish that they would bring back the original 'Come Dancing' with the real competitions and that. I remember watching it as a kid. It needn't be on prime time, but I'm sure that it would have an audience. I used to try and watch dance competitions on Eurosport sometimes and now I occasionally see one on YouTube, but it seems very remote. I dimly remember the team/formation competitions and loved them.

Total agree with this - I'd love to watch real life ballroom competitions and Come Dancing was fantastic!

JacquelineCarlyle · 10/10/2022 21:44

@NooNakedJacuzziness just spotted your username - not thought about chicken Stu or Michelle in years! Thanks for the BB nostalgia!

SequinsandStilettos · 10/10/2022 21:56

Just watched Gio and Richie's exit interview on It takes two. Both very sanguine/gracious about things but Richie visibly choked at the end. He really wanted to be there for the whole Glitterball experience (like Nina and Chizzy) rather than under duress (Spangles, Naga). Gio mentioned he should do a future Xmas special - I think that would be lovely actually. In the same way, Chizzy got to perform again and get closure on it all, it would be nice to see Richie have the same. Let him dance with Graz or Neil next Xmas and not have to rein in his exuberance.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/10/2022 21:57

Jacqueline, depending on where you live, you could maybe go and watch a local one? There are always spectators. Or even treat yourself to a ticket to Blackpool, Bournemouth or the Royal Albert Hall!

Since we've been talking about Karen Hardy and Come Dancing, here's a video combining the two.

Wow @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams, thanks for sharing!

I'm in the West Midlands - what do you even Google to find decent dancing to watch? We went to Blackpool years ago and I had the loveliest afternoon sitting in the Tower Ballroom just watching regular people dance around the room. It was beautiful and so peaceful (especially as my DH had taken the kids to soft play to leave me in peace!). It was just such a relaxing afternoon watching them - I loved it.

Aquarius1234 · 10/10/2022 21:27

Richie was awful on Saturday, not sure why anyone is surprised he went or was in bottom 2.

I think many people when they say Richie didn't deserve to go, they actually think Giovanni didn't deserve to go, he's one of those high achieving pros with a reputation to be able to teach anyone and people wanted to watch him transform Richie into a great dancer. But on the night everything about their performance was awful. No content, no real humor, cheap looking costumes, Richie basically skipping along next to Gio who's trying to dance samba with a fake belly. Bizarre.
There were a couple of other couples that were just as bad but that doesn't mean Richie and Gio didn't deserve to go, it was a terrible number all around.

JacquelineCarlyle · 10/10/2022 22:23

I agree @Frezia

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/10/2022 22:24

@JacquelineCarlyle The DPA website is probably a good place to look (that's one of the leagues). There's one in Stoke in a couple of weeks if that's the right sort of area?

The full calendar is here so there might be some closer.

I’ve been racking my brains thinking I know that phrase 😁

Chicken Stu! Loved Michelle, saw what she wanted and went out and grabbed him! That was a beezer of a series

JacquelineCarlyle · 10/10/2022 22:59

It really was @FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge

Thanks @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams - I now need to find real life friends who like this sort of stuff but sadly I'm alone with that!

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 11/10/2022 07:00

I can’t think of a worse dance than Richie’s on Saturday night; all the others had decent dance content, less faffing and better costumes. Richie wasn’t to blame for any of that, but his dancing was still pretty poor - especially compared with how he performed in previous weeks - so he didn’t get the votes.

Peanuts2000 · 11/10/2022 07:37

I thought Richie's dance was not great, there seemed to hardly any dancing from him. I thought Ellie T would be in the dance off. Shirley does not come across well, so obvious in previous series she has her favourites. Think she needs to go!
