Instead of the daft fill in vids I wish they'd go back to just showing us how they got on in training in the last week, I found that way more interesting than e.g going back to their old school/arsing about

Inkanta · 10/10/2022 13:13

Yes I agree I'm not bothered 'arsing' about at their old schools. Watching rehearsals are good enough for me too.🤓

Minimammoth · 10/10/2022 15:44

Maybe they should bring in some old time dancing.

Sunbird24 · 10/10/2022 16:03

They should bring back the little demos we used to get back when they all started off with one of two specific dances in the first couple of weeks. And bring that back too.

Maireas · 10/10/2022 16:08

humanatee · 10/10/2022 08:39

As someone in a same sex couple, it always makes me nervous when there are same sex couples on strictly. All of a sudden people make harsh comment, and it gets a bit exposing and upsetting.

I wish the bbc would do a better job at moderating their comments, as between that and the strictly groups it gets a bit overwhelming at times. Theres some proper nasty stuff on their at times

Someone who came to my wedding, watched us dance together keeps commenting visibly how same sex couples "doesnt look right" and it would be better if it was a man and women. I cant help but wonder if she felt that at our wedding

The visability is nice, but it makes me want to hide under a rock more and more

I'm very sorry that you have this experience, and feel this way.
Some of the comments on here about Richie have been very unpleasant, and unkind.

EvilRingahBitch · 10/10/2022 16:34

Cuck00soup · 10/10/2022 12:37

I wish they'd bite the bullet pre-record it, at least in the early rounds. It would save the embarrassing and cringey videos whilst they prepare the sets.

I think that would be terrible- the fact that they're performing live makes a huge difference to the jeopardy and pressure. Some of Strictly's most memorable moments would probably have been edited out if it hadn't been live.

Mark Ramprakash and the mike cable. Shirley's iPad meltdown being rescued by the sober sanity of Bruno. McFly vs Bruce. Matt di Angelo walking off.

From that POV it would be great to see the results show live. Who knows how many great moments of chaos we've lost over the years, not to mention Peter Andre's "standing ovation".

RobertsRadio · 10/10/2022 16:38

@Minimammoth

Thank you for this video of the wonderful Joyce Grenfell. Brought back happy memories of going to see Maureen Lipman in Re:Joyce! - A Celebration of the Work of Joyce Grenfell with my Mum and Maureen performed this sketch brilliantly.

I have been following this thread as decided to try and get back into Strictly this year after a gap of several years, due to being bored with the same old formula and also knowing fewer and fewer of the so-called celebrities. This year I am more invested as I know more of the celebs and decided to try and stick with it to the end.

I still don't like all the shrieking and standing ovations for very mediocre dances in weeks 2 and 3 and I really wish Motsi and Shirley would dial it down a notch or two, plus the scoring is all over the place, are they all on drugs?

I totally agree with lots of comments about going back to more actual ballroom dancing rather than prancing around like a wannabe from Fame in stupid costumes and bloody endless Disney films. If the BBC would just concentrate on the dancing with less of the boring fluff it would be so much better. Oh and also the BBC need to tighten up the security around spoilers giving away the results, if they can't manage that then just go back to the original format.

the80sweregreat · 10/10/2022 16:43

I remember when it started in 04 and it was on for one night and the judges were much more stoic and it had a more professional air.
It's become much too hyped now I think
They drag everything out and it can be a boring with the long pauses and shrieking etc
I still love it as a very successful entertainment show and love the presenters, but I agree they should dial it down a bit.
The actual dancing is good to watch

Mrsjayy · 10/10/2022 16:56

I agree everyone just to calm the heck down, I can't stand whooping !

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 10/10/2022 17:00

I wish they would go to more ballroom/ Latin content - maybe just make them do the basics for 1 week. Most of those dances wouldn’t be allowed in competition as too much faffing around.

I even wish the group dances were more based on the main 10, now they are just commercial style dances.

Also not a fan of the couple’s choice - as there are no rules there is also nothing to judge it on and it even more becomes a popularity contest.

nomdegrrr1 · 10/10/2022 17:05

I wish that they would bring back the original 'Come Dancing' with the real competitions and that. I remember watching it as a kid. It needn't be on prime time, but I'm sure that it would have an audience. I used to try and watch dance competitions on Eurosport sometimes and now I occasionally see one on YouTube, but it seems very remote. I dimly remember the team/formation competitions and loved them.

the80sweregreat · 10/10/2022 17:07

It was much less about the judges and much less hysterical in the early days
Motsi is great , but all the hype is a bit much ( or maybe I'm getting old)
Still, it's nice to watch a programme that hasnt any swearing or sex scenes or anything like this !! It's a great format , but just spoiled a bit at times

the80sweregreat · 10/10/2022 17:07

Come dancing was great

Tabbouleh · 10/10/2022 17:08

I often watch on catchup and fast forward through all the nan videos and trips to various London attractions.

If I were the tyrannical queen of Strictly I would:

Get rid of movie and Halloween night
Get rid of couples choice
Replace Shirley with Karen Hardy and Motsi with literally anyone
Get a better group dance choreographer who can focus on dancing the main 10s
No contempowaft or street dance. Just the main 10s
Give poor Luba a decent partner

I would also get rid of some of the pros but I don't want to say which ones as I have been tyrannical enough already:)

the80sweregreat · 10/10/2022 17:14

This is a good way to save hours of your life with some programmes these days!
Tape it, whizz past the fluff n chit chat , fillers etc and just watch the important bits
With SCD you can knock it down to about 20 / 30 mins on Saturday night.

ArcaneWireless · 10/10/2022 17:16

As an entertainment show it is hitting the dumbed down brief.

As a dancing competition? Mebbes naw.

I too would rather watch Come Dancing.

Strictly, unfortunately, feels as tired as my feet.

Record/fast forward is the only way I can manage now.

There's DSI TV, but it's expensive!

Oh yes. Remember the formation teams and the bouffant dresses made out of yards and yards of nylon netting and all the hand sewn sequins. I feel quite nostalgic.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/10/2022 17:48

This was on recently — only Latin-focussed unfortunately, but you get to see Blackpool and plenty of dancing.

iklboo · 10/10/2022 18:12

Shirl is like that waspish auntie in the family who gets nasty after a couple of sherries and tries to get everyone arguing, then sits back with a smirk enjoying the fall out.

EsmaCannonball · 10/10/2022 19:01

So annoying that Hamza has another fast Latin. Why do the producers think the viewers don't want to watch ballroom dances?

I was also hoping they'd quietly drop bloody Couple's Choice this series but no such luck.

Wasn't it all fabulous I remember the hair a mile high 😃

Watching ITT really felt for Ritchie he was so upset bless him.

Maireas · 10/10/2022 19:37

Richie was lovely, very sweet and obviously disappointed. He's focusing on the enjoyment and privilege of taking part, which is great.
Gio and him seemed to get on well. Shame, I think he had a few weeks left.

⬆️Yes!⬆️

I’ve always liked and admired Craig, but even he allows himself to be made ridiculous at times; the exaggerated bored face with a silly hat on his head, playing up to the pantomime dame image etc - not that I’ve got a problem with pantomime dames in an actual pantomime, I just think it lacks gravitas, the judges horsing around so much. I don’t want to see them dancing either, except maybe past clips of them on ITT occasionally.
