I dont know what it will be like. I suppose it happened when he left Cheers so maybe it will be a standalone comedy? www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2022/oct/05/frasier-is-back-in-the-building-sequel-series-greenlit-at-paramount

He's too old. Frasier as a sit com is so dated now. Why do they keep wheeling out people 60+ on TV and in politics here in the USA? We need new content in both areas not constantly old ideas warmed up.

Talk about ageism. Should we all hide away past 60.

EachandEveryone · 14/01/2023 18:16

Im actually looking forward to it now.

I think it could work, Frasier was a spin off from Cheers in the first place and it was said then it wouldn't work with the rest of the Cheers cast supporting, but it did. I'm willing to give it a go. I think Nicholas Lyndhurst is a very odd choice though!

*without

I'm quite excited about this (and quite glad Daphne won't be a regular in it - I don't have strong feelings against the actor who played her but Christ that character was shit imo and the show went badly downhill once they started giving her bigger storylines)

Won't be the same without Martin though. John Mahoney was a terrific actor.

I first watched Frasier in my 40s, and AO find when I watch it now in my 60s I fancy John Mahoney! I think it’s knowing he was the Democrat cultured intellectual irl and Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce were republicans….

He needs Niles to bounce from so the casting is crucial

CoolShoeshine · 15/01/2023 08:05

Nicholas Lyndhurst is a bizarre choice, I wonder if he’ll be a Martin type character who brings Frasier down to earth.
Wondering also if it might be set in London as that would help explain why the other former cast members aren’t in it full time.

This is the first post i saw about this and was going to say 'Nicholas Lyndhurst? Are you mixing him up with someone else?'

I know you're right! Just wasn't expecting that one

TidyDancer · 15/01/2023 08:33

I'll watch it out of sheer curiosity but I don't have very high hopes. And I share the feelings people have around KG's dodgy political leanings. It does taint whatever he does.

That was my immediate thought. He played such a brilliant part, and so much of the comedy was the chasm between him and Frasier and Niles when it came to taste in pretty much everything - coffee, drinks, restaurants, music, interior design - to name a few.

I watched the episode not long ago where Leland Barton, Hester Crane's old research assistant, visits Seattle. Martin starts to wonder who is the boys' real father. He stands watching them all singing at the piano and so on.

I don't think I would watch a reboot. I love the old episodes even when I know them word for word, almost.

FYI. An article about this in today’s Guardian :

After reading that article Im really starting to look forward to it now. I see Lilith is going to be in it. Of course the dad would be long gone by now so I think if its written well it could be interesting.

Freddie as a firefighter? I just can't see it. I loved Roz and Niles, will miss them but really hoping it will be good.

Hbh17 · 03/03/2023 14:17

I might give it a try, but without Niles how can it compare? Niles was just the funniest, most brilliant character - although the storylines did go off a bit once he got together with Daphne.
