Complaints about the Strictly line up

I've read a lot of complaints (none on here, but that doesn't mean there aren't any) about the line up of Strictly contestants being terrible. Grumbling about them all being Z listers, not knowing any of them, same sex couples, dancing is not about sexuality (as in pairing up gay people with someone of the same sex) and making a laughing stock of Ellie Simmonds.

Personally I would like to see two same sex couples, both of the dancers and celebs being straight. Nobody would then complain about it being "woke" and about sexual preferences (which I don't think it should be. It wasn't for Susan Calman, Will Young, Julien Macdonald, Julian Clary)

What do Mumsnetters think about who should be in the line up? If people moan about Z listers (I do think there's a point about this on Dancing on Ice and Love Islanders) who should be on instead? At what level do 'celebs' become acceptable as celebrities ?

@EvilRingahBitch I have absolutely no recollection of Charles Venn and Karen dancing 🙀mortified, their dance is fab! And yes, Oti and Bill definite copy.

The basic steps incorporated into every dance is the same!! 😂 that's the dancing part!

Disagree he was fine with Tilly Ramsay, maybe he's not thrilled with the prospect of putting his back out.

Yes, it's the showmanship and the styling that make the dance distinctive given the finite number of steps available, and that's the bit that's copied.

I don't hold anything against Bill and Oti, but I do want to fly the flag for Charles and Karen whenever I get the chance because I think their great dances are unjustly forgotten. See also Patrick Robinson and Anya Garnis.

I hadn't heard of a lot of them, but that doesn't matter IMO; I 'judge' them, or form an opinion of them, as we go along.
I think same-sex pairings are interesting; I don't think sex or sexual orientation should matter. I like that Jayde is straight and had other reasons for wanting a female partner.

I never watch it live. I watch it on Iplayer and whizz through all the stuff/slebs I'm not interested in, plus Tess and Claudia and the annoying pre dance clips.
I like to see the dances of the slebs I like and the judges comments, and that's it.

I am not a SCD purist by any means. I like to have heard of the dancers.
