A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Shows marked with an asterisk are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. We are generally fans of all things Korean, so equally happy to talk about Korean cookery, language, film and music when the mood takes us. A few of us are learning Korean, Japanese and/or Mandarin (some more diligently than others admittedly), so we swap tips and links to language resources. Basically, anything topical goes.

I’ve started gluten-free The Red Sleeve on bato, of Jungho adaptation fame. It is a beautifully drawn manhwa and the FL’s determination is as strong as in the TV version, unsurprisingly. The colours are making me very happy.

Haven't bothered to catch up with Love In Contract yet but thoroughly enjoying all the nonsense of Lover Is For Suckers and hoping ML doesn't really kiss 2FL - its all done with lighting, right?

We’ve just finished Once upon a Small Town and we loved it and I never would’ve found it without you clever chingus.
I think Choi Young Woo is an excellent actor as well as being super-cute. I loved how he started off humourless and emotionless and then when life started looking up, he became all smiley and cheerful.
I am going to try to find out where it was filmed and go there next year as it’s a really good example of the beautiful Korean countryside.

Dh and I have been watching Memories of Murder on film4. It's excellent, a murder mystery set in 1980s Korea directed by Bong Joon Ho.

Unfortunately DH has had to leave to do the teenager taxi run before we can finish it, so frustrating 😒 I really want to know who dunnit!

My MIL and FIL recorded The Handmaiden after it was recommended in the Daily Mail’s TV guide. They messaged me to tell me when it was airing. She texted a couple of days later to say it was very good “but soft porn”. 😂
