Haven't rewatched, but it didn't seem remotely calculating how Gemma said it. It was from a high angle above the group so wasn't like a staged chat, but a more natural group convo that had some momentum and she didn't have her usual guard up, just got chatting with the rest of them, like any 19yo with her mates, and when the topic came up - think someone else said it initially - she just ran with it. Sounded like she thought it'd be funny, but hadn't thought it through and like everyone else was shocked at the horrid turn from Jacques.

The idea she was deliberately pushing his buttons to get that OTT reaction feels way off to me. There's definitely a northern sense of humour of taking the piss/winding people up that she and Jacques would both indulge in, so this could well have felt like that to her and he should have been able to take it, god knows he dishes it out. To tell someone they've been called immature is the perfect chance for that person to prove they're not immature by handling it well, laughing it off, and pulling Adam for a chat if he had an issue with it. But in any case, I really don't think it was a strategy and Gemma could not have predicted his explosion, even if she already knew (and had kept quiet) about his flaws.

vjg13 · 13/07/2022 08:17

It was an uncomfortable watch last night. Jacques' leaving turned into a weird crying grief fest. Andrew's reaction looked one of total agreement initially and then he looked obliged to be upset too.

I've watched it all and missed the dirty pants bit completely so is it that big a deal?

vjg13 · 13/07/2022 08:18

I don't understand how Gemma is being blamed for Jacques' behaviour either.

A580Hojas · 13/07/2022 08:23

I'm still not blaming Gemma for Jacques reaction (again) but I don't believe there was a benign or humourous intention behind her choosing to say it. Some of you really have Gemma up on a pedestal.

Pinkdelight3 · 13/07/2022 08:23

I wonder what else went on that we didn't see. I get the sense that Jacques wasn't just crying because of Paige, but cos of the bigger picture of fucking up and looking bad and after whatever went down, the producers hashed it out with him and came up with this line to take on why he's going and how well he'll leave things with Paige, being as noble and sympathetic as possible for damage limitation on the outside. Which is a wise strategy - and I was surprised something similar didn't happen with Andrew when he clearly wasn't coping, which is partly why I think there's likely much more to this that we'll never know. Anyhow, I hope things move on to a more positive vibe in there - and that Paige moves on too.

LifeonMarss · 13/07/2022 08:25

I do hope he's getting support on the outside as he clearly needs it, his go to emotion seemed to be anger/aggression and I feel like if you were in a relationship with him you'd be constantly on edge for fear of angering him, I don't think he's ready for a relationship yet, like Paige said she sometimes has to mother him which can't be easy for her. I do feel for him a little bit, it can't be easy going in there and being neuro divergent it's constant stimulation and they cant even know the time of day.
Having said that though I don't think ADHD can excuse what he says to people, he was horrible to Billy last night and even when he's calm he's just not a very nice person it seems. Didn't an islander come out and say Jacques was horrible to most of the people in there, essentially called him a bully.

XelaM · 13/07/2022 08:37

Dows anyone NOT find Adam even remotely attractive? To me. He looks old (no way he is 26!) and sleazy. He's also way too transparent with his calculating speeches. I find him quite repulsive.

BiscoffSundae · 13/07/2022 08:40

Didn't an islander come out and say Jacques was horrible to most of the people in there, essentially called him a bully.

oh yes that was remi, and I remember a few posters on here calling him a liar and saying he was just saying it for attention wondered if they’ve changed their minds now, remi said Jacques made his experience really awful. Easy to believe, I believed it at the time he said it as to me Jacques has always come across as unpleasant

butterpuffed · 13/07/2022 08:45

I feel sorry for Jacques, he's finding it all too much to handle, saying things like when I'm hurt I run.

It's sad too that he's said he'll wait for Paige outside , as if it's definitely going to happen. I doubt it.

kc431 · 13/07/2022 08:51

Also we have to remember they’re probably all sleep deprived and have no alone time. I’m quite reasonable but turn into a crabby monster if I don’t get enough sleep. Plus, it must be so intense with all the people you’ve dated openly dating others. In real life if you saw a guy you liked flirting with another girl you could just go elsewhere and not have to see it, but in there you can’t. I find the standards we hold the islanders to unrealistic - are they never meant to react or have emotions like jealousy? The entire show is DESIGNED to get a reaction out of them. Same with thinking you like someone then getting the ick 2 days later - happens to the best of us and doesn’t make you an arsehole.

A580Hojas · 13/07/2022 08:55

to a pp who asked I also find Adam sleazy having read his history on Love Island. I didn't watch that series.

And now he flogs pictures on Only Fans? ICK! I don't even think he's that good looking, he has gorgeous eyes but the rest is nothing special.

Newpuppymummy · 13/07/2022 09:05

I don’t think anyone is blaming Gemma for his behaviour. Not from what I have read anyway.

Saying she was deliberately stirring saying Adam had slagged him off is very different to saying she was to blame.

Prinnny · 13/07/2022 09:10

I don’t think Paige will move on, I think she’ll enter a friendship couple. Don’t think she’s interested in Adam I think she was just using him to make Jacques sweat a bit whilst still in the doghouse. I’m not sure who Adam is into to be honest, maybe Danica, he seemed to have the best chat with her.

vjg13 · 13/07/2022 09:34

I do think Paige will move on and fairly quickly too!

Tillsforthrills · 13/07/2022 09:34

Petronus · 13/07/2022 07:17

Blaming Gemma for Jaques terrible behaviour frustrates me. She has shown the patience of a saint in not saying a bad word about him, and I think we’ve seen enough to know he must have been a terrible boyfriend. So what if she said something? Why must we blame a woman for a man having no self control.

Sorry I haven’t said that whatsoever?

I said she was shit stirring which she was. How Jacques responded to that is on him 100% but it doesn’t take away from the fact she did it intentionally.

vjg13 · 13/07/2022 09:35

I don't find Adam facially attractive but can see he would have a good physical presence.

Tillsforthrills · 13/07/2022 09:35

A580Hojas · 13/07/2022 07:31

Gemma didn't say anything to anyone about what Jacques was like as a boyfriend.

Why did she tell Jacques that Adam had described him as immature do you think?

My questioning why she did that has nothing whatsoever to do with Jacques' reaction ... it is purely "why would she do that?".

Exactly, there’s a huge difference.

Tillsforthrills · 13/07/2022 09:38

I saw him saying to Paige I’ll be waiting for you and I want you to be my girlfriend as very manipulative. He can’t seem to help himself with his toxic bs, he needs urgent help.

"Does anyone NOT find Adam even remotely attractive?"

When I saw pictures of him in the press I thought he looked a bit rough and much older than 26. On the TV last night I thought he looked better facially in the flesh (though not particularly my type). I like his height, but I'm not keen on the over-developed abs. I much prefer a softer bod (like Luca, but without the random tats).

MinglingFlamingo · 13/07/2022 10:04

Adam looks like Carl from Summer House if anyone watches that.

Maves · 13/07/2022 10:07

Andrew is fucking cringe and a creep I actually feel bad for Tasha now he's vile.
Have a feeling Adam is only keeping danica as an "option" as knows she'll keep him in, Jaques was shocking the whole fuck off thing.
I do think he hadn't told them about the adhd as they've got to be on it now with mental health so that's why he went.

Why the fuck didn't Gemma call Luka out on the push? Wtaf.
Josh, deju and coco didn't have any airtime last night things need mixing up.

WhenDovesFly · 13/07/2022 10:08

I agree with the Jacques language seeming very manipulative. In one breath he's saying to Paige she must do what she has to do, and in the next he's saying he'll be waiting for her outside, he'll be picking her up from the airport etc. He's assuming a lot and it wasn't fair to put that pressure on Paige.

I really hope after a day or so she is able to see the relationship for what it was, and feels able to explore other connections without feeling any guilt. I think Adam wants to get to know her and it will be interesting to see how gently he moves forward.

I also hope the likes of Luca don't try to make Paige feel guilty if she moves on. I'm another one who can't stand the strangle hold Luca seems to have on Gemma all the time. When he pushed her last night I was WTF?! I can't see that relationship surviving in the outside world.

Shoxfordian · 13/07/2022 10:10

Does anyone else think Billy and Gemma look cute together?

Aquarius1234 · 13/07/2022 10:47

Why the big deal about skid marks?
Most men are vile and have dirty boxers.

Aquarius1234 · 13/07/2022 10:48

And I doubt all girls have pristine underwear after use.
