The rest of the school being missing does make it seem odd. And the lack of staff... it seems to suggest the Miss Johnson, Mamzelle and Matron are the only adults.

Hopefully series 4 will have more people.

It did make you think how lucky we are these days when back then getting tinned peaches and bananas was something to be excited about.

That actually caused me to be a bit confused about Mary Lous dress.... a girl losing a school dress, which I'm guessing they only had 2 or 3 of, would surely be quite obvious?

I did feel sorry for her though.

I really enjoyed this series. Nothing like the book, but enjoyable anyway.

I do love this TV adaptation of Malory Towers. However, this series depiction of ‘Miss Johnson’ is just annoying and seems to be a copy of Professor Umbridge in the Harry Potter series. I’d like them to have kept to the main events in the book with Miss Peters as the third form mistress.

It does seem somewhat unlikely that Mary Lou could have got to Year 3 without knowing about periods. When I was at boarding school in the 60s I got a full run-down within my first term of everything I hadn't been told by my not-very-forthcoming mother. And you would have had to be thick not to notice the strategically placed bins in the loos, to say nothing of the pieces of newspaper left there for us to wrap sanitary towels up in before putting them in the bins.

Also - adolescent spots on the back of the neck but not the face???

Bit late but loving this. Especially Matron.

But, who is thie evil Miss Johnson? Am I forgetting something from the books? Where are Miss Peters and Alicia?

DorritLittle · 28/12/2022 20:09

Zerelda should be next series.

PuttingDownRoots · 28/12/2022 20:36

Who has watched the Christmas specials??

ShirleyHolmes · 28/12/2022 20:40

Me! Loved them! I know they are not faithful to the books but my DD and I are loving them. Matron is fab, and the original Miss Grayling from the first series is back again.

I just think that the girls are such lovely actors and it’s so lovely and warm!

Yes they are all lovely actors. I think my favourite is Gwen.

Bit weird that the school term lasts right up to Christmas Eve, and that no staff member seems to be in charge of making sure the pupils travelling by train actually get on it, particularly if that is the last one before Christmas. Also that, when they duly miss it, none of their parents can be bothered to make any alternative arrangements to collect their little ones. I was also a bit intrigued that, having expected to have to cater for four, the head and matron managed to produce a Christmas meal for at least ten without any problem.

But heyho, details shmetails.

PuttingDownRoots · 05/01/2023 08:48

I've seen the synopsis for season 4, there will be other children in the school at least!

SnowlayRoundabout · 05/01/2023 09:10

Oh well, that's a plus, it was just a trifle weird the way the same kids in a fairly lowly year group seem to run everything. It would be quite good if they managed to accumulate a few more staff members and a different dorm, too.

There were indications in the Christmas one that they're bumping Sally up a form - maybe that means we see more of her new form-mates?
