What happened to the love island thread

Just been on to catch up on what I'd missed and the thread has gone?! Anyone have any idea why?

@CrapBucket - My DH and I were saying that night. The way it’s being produced seems to emphasis that too, sometimes as if it is two different programmes - as they will have a few scenes with only white people at times, then flick straight to one with only a black couple or the two couples chatting together. So much so that it almost seems deliberate. I have seen the groups mixed with just girls or boys chatting but not with any opposite sex interactions, even friendships beginning.

For example, can’t believe that Indiyah has not had even one conversation with any of the white boys, but I haven’t seen it. They just have discussed how attractive she is? The main group are shown discussing 3 girls, as if the other two aren’t in there.

Davide also seemed to only talk to the three white girls, but he must have said hello to the others - but it wasn’t shown. The only reason for it to be deliberate though could be to stir up the “race row” headlines - which are already being used by The Sun tabloid. It is also being picked up on Twitter.

I've said it for the last few series but I wish it had more regular people. You know like ones just up for a laugh and dating. These days they're all so aware of the fame that could come afterwards that they are conscious of their actions and forget the actual premise of the show. No 19 year old is there to find love. They want the brand deals.
They're more concerned with how they look. There's no letting their down and having genuine fun and making good connections with each other

I don't think they'll be able to get that back, everyone goes in hyper-aware of what can happen when they leave. Same as big brother. I never watched it in full but do know that the first couple of series were genuinely an interesting idea but then people cottoned onto the career prospects and it changed.

Yea I used to love bb until that happened. It's a shame really. I'm hoping this series will get more interesting when they see who the public like, the bombshells enter etc.

It’s nicer without all those cheap polyester clothes from PLT, that is an improvement on last year already.

She's beautiful, best looking in there by far (IMO)

What about drawing names out of a hat for couplings next time so there is no element of people being put together based upon race by the public? It would have roughly the same chance of success as they chop and change so much in the early days.

I think the age range should be 21-29. Not saying 19 year olds are babies but the pandemic will have made a big difference in terms of those at the younger end of the current range and it's quite a big gap anyway. In a recent series Chris and Harley ended up together with that 10 year gap I think and were noticeably at different levels of maturity so it was a bit pointless (although I think they were nice to each other). Despite Gemma's surface polish and confidence she seems quite young- all that about wanting to stay with her family and not being able to keep eye contact.

That's so true. I loathe fast fashion.

I’m really struggling to like Gemma, the eye contact thing bothers me and her lips don’t move when she talks..I don’t know if it’s just a confidence issue but she always seem like she would take offence to what anyone says to her so she very sharp in her responses. I had to laugh when she said she isn’t a morning person. Or an afternoon or evening person either if seems

The same happened with the series with samira in (can’t remember what one that was) but all the guys saying how pretty and stunning she was but then instantly friend zoning her and going after one of the other (white) girls

then the same with kaz, all the new guys they brought it would pretend to be interested in kaz to get onto the show and then as soon as they are in the villa wouldn’t even look at her let alone speak to her, same kind of thing seems to be happening this year with the obvious divide.

I hate the daily Mail but there is an interesting article on it today from a parent of a former contestant who never made it big after appearing a consequently had a breakdown. Quite eye opening

Catching up on last nights episode.

I agree with a PP that they need to bring people in who are wanting to be there for a laugh, not because of the career prospects afterwards. I know that might be hard for the producers to do but standout examples like Chris "the salmon" made it fun and entertaining.

It's only a couple of days in so hopefully peoples personalities will start to come out more soon. I remember not liking Chloe from last season at the start but ended up loving her as she relaxed into the show.

Also echo comments about race - it seems like the darker you are as a woman in there the less interest you get, even if you're stunning, and it's really uncomfortable viewing. It does smack of racism and it needs sorting out - put men in there who are attracted to other races, not just the white girls!

Still loving the lack of Botox filler and implants this year, the women this year seem so much more comfortable with themselves and it's good to see

Don’t know what to make of this season yet, it does seem to have all been very biased towards Gemma but she is very closed off so we’re not seeing much of anyone’s personality. Will stick it out for a bit longer.

Surely a few people in there will know who Ekin-Su is, she has a massive insta following. She would be a better match for Davide, certainly think she'll be way too grown up for any of the other guys really - but let's see how her date with little Liam goes!

I find it a bit sad in a way that they don't feel they've got time to talk to anyone of the opp sex unless they are actually interested in them, I think that's what throws the group dynamic for me as normally you'd get friendships across the board not just the girls vs boys type thing. If you said to them all no-one is getting thrown out for at least 4-5 days then I think things might flow differently. But I guess as already pointed out we do also have that dynamic now where most of them are on there with an outcome in mind for their future ' career'.

Can we also talk about teeth - does anyone have their real teeth any more or is it that dental care is much better for kids now? So many straight pearly whites....

Indiyah is stunning and in the outside world she would attract men of all races. It is just that the type of men that generally go into Love Island are generally not the most open .
However, I remember the series’ Survival of the Fittest’ which only lasted one season. The two most popular girls were a black girl and a mixed race girl who were both very attractive. One of them dated the alpha male of the group who happened to be white. So there are obviously white men who find WOC attractive.
Not sure if Indiyah is attracted to white men though
I think that the producers are deliberately trying to get headlines because tbh the show is not what it used to be

I think its pointless kicking anyone out after a short amount of time regardless of how boring or non attractive they are.
10 days minimum I'd say.
And they are probably friendships forming soon but we the viewers only see the staged chats.
Even the balcony chats in the morning are completely fake.
I don't know anyone that watches it that enjoys those stilted morning chats about kisses etc.

Today, there are tweets about the guys from last series Jake, Brad, Aaron and the guy who was with Kaz, all being really rude about Rachel and saying she was not a bombshell.

It reminded me of how last year most of the men were vile people.

Luca is coming across older than 23 and Andrew is acting younger than 27.

I’m not on twitter so didn’t see that, just had a look. Seriously why would they do that! it’s just spiteful and cruel to publicity humiliate someone.

I thought Luca must be young because he was talking about Paige in her bikini and giving him a hard on. When he said that I thought he must be under 25! Most people wouldn’t say that.

@MinglingFlamingo Andrew was part of the reason I checked ages as I couldn't work him out and he seems far less mature than 27...but then I suppose everyone matures at different rates eh!
