Anyone watching? I haven't got round to Call My agent but I thought I'd give this a go.

So I know it's been made by the team behind twentytwelve and W1A but literally the first 5 mins had the same speech patterns and manner right down to the PA having the unspoken crush on the boss like Olivia Coleman and Hugh bonneville.

There is an arch campy young assistant just like in W1A

Honestly is Call my agent like this? I can't imagine it is?

I don't dislike it, it just doesn't seem too
original.

I haven't seen twenty twelve, but the 10 per cent actress reminded me a lot of Olivia Coleman.

signsofsafety · 01/05/2022 22:00

I enjoyed it except for the complete rip off of Olivia Colman, I don't know why the actor in Ten Percent would want to do a carbon copy of such a well known performance.

Aquarius1234 · 01/05/2022 22:07

Watched it all. Must have been ok.

Aquarius1234 · 01/05/2022 22:09

I found Rebecca Humphries and Lydia Leonard the best.

So I have parked ten percent for now and started Call my agent which I am very much enjoying. I may go back

I've also used the buzz about Ten Percent (which I would totally watch because I love Jack Davenport but I don't have Prime) to prompt me into finally watching Dix Pour Cent, which everyone has been saying is great for ages. And yeah, surprise surprise? it's great and really entertaining viewing. I'm four episodes in and already planning that when I rewatch it I'll do it with French subtitles on.

Mooserp · 02/05/2022 12:29

I've finished it now. The last episode was good, I enjoyed David Harewood. The other celebs fell a bit flat I thought.

I expect another series

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 03/05/2022 10:39

Yeah I thought the final episode was the strongest

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 03/05/2022 10:47

I may have missed a bit, but I don’t remember the scene where they explain Misha’s relationship to Jack Davenport’s character.

There was a bit where his wife and son burst in on the two of them in his office, and in the next episode it was explained, but not to the viewer? Or maybe I nodded off and missed a scene.

I thought the same. We, the viewer, already knew the relationship so I guess we didn’t need it revealing again.

But it did feel a tiny bit disjointed that the wife and son burst in and then somehow, from this, the whole office knew the truth (despite the fact it was late and no one else was there to witness it? Or have I misremembered that?).

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 03/05/2022 12:10

Ah good, wasn't just me then. Seemed a bit clunky.

Felt like they were relying on everyone having watched CMA, but for viewers that hadn't seen CMA it might have been a bit Confused

Snoopsnoggysnog · 03/05/2022 12:20

I loved CMA so much I can’t bring myself to watch this!
and yes do watch CMA in French please not dubbed

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 03/05/2022 12:24

I don't think there is a dubbed option.

viques · 03/05/2022 17:53

Have watched all series 1. It ended in a way that made me feel there probably won’t be a series 2, and whereas with CMA I was salivating for a new series this one has made me shrug and think “OK, no problem, I can live with that.” It wasn’t as awful as it could have been , thank heaven for small mercies, but doesn’t compare at all to CMA. I also found the style of the writing very irritating, loved that sort of cutting across talk between characters in 2012, but it didn’t sit right with this somehow.

IcedPurple · 03/05/2022 20:14

Call My Agent is just so very French. Not in an obvious way, but there's just a certain je ne sais quoi. It's kind of like how Wallander is so Swedish. What makes the characters and stories so appealing just doesn't transfer to another context.

reshetima · 23/06/2022 17:19

We thoroughly enjoyed it,* once it got going, but the constant swearing is just appalling. I find it hard to believe that f-words are chucked around with such abandon in real life.

  • but, nowhere near as much as I enjoyed the French series Grin
Mufflette · 23/06/2022 17:39

I'm enjoying it, but it's quite hard to engage properly when you know exactly what's going to happen to all the characters. I'm not sure why they're literally following the same storyline just with English versions of the French characters rather than taking the basis and creating something new!

Floralnomad · 23/06/2022 17:43

I’ve watched 10 percent but not CMA and I really enjoyed it , I thought it was very obvious from the start that Misha was his daughter .
