How the hell did this man get away with it?

@collieresponder88

So you’re saying only white men abuse children? Don’t be ridiculous.

Hadenoughofthisbullshit · 13/04/2022 19:17

@user75

The same cameramen worked on Jim'll fix it, Jonathon King's TV show and Gary Glitters tour films. The same small group of men. All public school educated BBC camera men. There is lot about this that has never been shown. The establishment are covering this up still. Savile was not a 'lone wolf' he was a respected man, loved by the bbc, royal family and government. The people who knew and supported hi. Are still in their jobs.
Indeed, not sure these people were “groomed” they either a) didn’t care b) were up to their necks in it too c) felt like they had to ignore it for the sake of their career (which is actually also option a)

Bit bored with this - not hearing from the female survivors. Just more 'oh I didn't know ' from the blokes. I am only 30 mins in so might change my mind. But I doubt it. It seems the only investigation to be had is how the men felt.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/04/2022 06:34

he mentioned so many times his crimes, on episode 1,
terrible how he was not exposed earlier

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/04/2022 06:37

thing is if selena scott had not responded pleasantly to him, she wouldn't have a job - he wasnt there to be exposed - he was a charity fund raiser

middlingnot · 17/04/2022 15:28

The clip with both Savile and Gary Glitter in was particularly creepy. The montage of him doing the 'my case come up next Thursday' joke and all the repetitive quips about him liking the girls - urgh! It seemed like everyone knew he was a wrong 'un but he had the charity facade and friends in high places.

Mumteedum · 17/04/2022 16:13

@chilling19 it's the way the documentary is structured..part one is his rise to fame and how he gained power. Part two is much more victim focused and heartbreaking.

wizzywig · 17/04/2022 16:26

I don't think we can say 'it was a different time'. In my job, I see time and time again, people who turn a blind eye when family members/ partners commit sex offences. They blame the victims.

milveycrohn · 17/04/2022 16:31

I personally did not like J Savile, as I did not like the way he talked to people, in a rather patronising way, so I rarely watched TOTP, or Jim'll Fix it, etc.
I used to wonder how these 14 year olds were allowed to be on TOTP; weren't they doing homework; school the next day, etc (Of course, now I know they were from children's homes, and vulnerable girls)

I just watched Leaving Neverland too. MJ was another one who was hiding in plain sight.

Amazing now, looking back at it that anyone thought that a grown man sleeping with young boys was ok.

Absolutely. I watched the documentary again this week.
I can't see how those boys would have made it up. The story/experience they had were told in a very plausible way. The details, the feelings, the explanations of why they didn't speak up before.

The whole Michael Jackson didn't have a childhood rubbish was just a cover story for him to get away with what he was doing.

Namechanger1002 · 10/10/2022 21:25

And as for a child abuse unit only being set up in 1994 - I was staggered by that.

Rape in a marriage only became illegal in 1991/1992.

Women have been fucked over for years, centuries, and still it continues.

Topgub · 10/10/2022 21:26

What struck me was how often he straight up told people what he was doing

And they laughed

What disgusts me is that his music is still played everywhere and lots of people still happy to say they are fans. 🤮

VivienneDelacroix · 11/10/2022 00:57

My children's primary school last year tried to get them to sing I Believe I Can Fly by R Kelly. I told them my children wouldn't be singing that and they removed it from the choir's repertoire, but REALLY R Kelly?

Triplecarbs · 11/10/2022 07:28

What do you mean get away with it then? There are plenty getting away with it now, some in plain sight!
