Hi, couldn't see another thread about this.
So the first episode of Moon Knight, the new Marvel tv series was released today - what did everyone think?
I really enjoyed it. I live Egyptian mythology; thought Oscar Isaac was really good, loved the car chase, he does bumbling idiot very well.
New episodes every Wednesday.

The third personality is called Jake I think. They also alluded to it when mark/Steven had just stabbed two guys and Mark was talking to Steven in the knife. They both said 'I didn't do this, you did this Mark/Steven' or something like that. So all the times when they've 'woken up' and it's an obvious horrific killing, I think that may have been this Jake.

Was really sad to see Gaspard Ulliel.

BackInBlackAgain · 18/04/2022 10:01

I am enjoying it, but it is abit mind bending!

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 20/04/2022 22:22

Today's ep, omg 😀we could not stop laughing at the end.

I would watch Layla rob tombs all day long.

APurpleSquirrel · 20/04/2022 22:33

I know! Are Marvel going to make Indiana Jones canon & make him Layla's father??? Grin

The ending was off the chart - is this the gods avatar's waiting room?? Who was in the other sarcophagus - the 3rd personality?
Who is the Hippo god?
Where those waters in the tomb special divine ones? Is he wrestling Ahmet/EH?

WTF did I just watch! 🤔very confused

colourmebladd · 23/04/2022 08:30

The hippo is Ammit according to my mythology-mad ds.
I think the last bit is all set in his mind and the rattling sarcophagus is the third personality trying to get out. Maybe!

No the hippo is the god who protects pregnant women and babies, Tameret (spelling may be wrong).

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 23/04/2022 10:19

Yes that's definitely not Ammit, she's more jackal-headed as they've depicted her there. It's definitely Marc's mind, or at least the mind instead Marc/Steven/other personality's body. I loved seeing Marc and Steven instinctively overjoyed to see each other and the implication that they can help to heal each other.

ermagerdabear · 23/04/2022 10:41

I'm loving this. Best Marvel series since WandaVision. His London accent is ok-ish and he's very funny as Steven and he's done well to make the characters two very distinct personalities. When he's Steven, he actually reminds me of Rafe Spall and I can't believe he didn't mention him as one of the people he watched.

I think OI has said that he didn't want to get involved in another franchise after Star Wars so I hope this series isn't going to be a one off. The hippo god in the last episode was Taweret, the god of childbirth and fertility so I've no idea where she's fitting into all this and I think the red sarcophagus possibly has Marc's third identity inside it (Jake Knight?).

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 23/04/2022 11:15

Yes, Oscar's London accent was a bit shaky in ep 1 but has settled a bit, IMO. I also love that despite the fact the characters are identically dressed and styled, you never have to ask whether you're looking at Steven or Mark - he holds both his body and his face subtly differently in each incarnation.

I also agree that he is doing absolutely sterling comic work. As one of the reviews I read said - Oscar Isaac really knows how to use his body.

What god was the woman who sneaked and spoke to him after the trial thing an avatar for?
The other people in his brain are all people he's already connected to and she seemed to believe him about Ammet.

I think Layla might become Ammet's Avatar. She clearly wasn't horrified at the thought of being konshu's next one. Seemed to like the thought of the power.

Although, didn't Marc still have the statue when he fell? Last time he was this close to death he became an avatar and now konshu is out of him it leaves a vacancy.

This has definitely been the most interesting bit of tv I've watched for a while.

Can't wait to see how he plays the 3rd, seemingly feral, personality.

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 23/04/2022 14:07

The avatar who spoke to him at the audience with the gods was Hathor, "goddess of love and music".

iklboo · 23/04/2022 14:28

We are bloody loving this! It's one of the shows DS(16) wants to watch with us. Steven is great, OI has great comic timing & I want to be Layla when I grow up. Ethan Hawke really menacing without being a moustache twirling, scenery chewing baddie.

The guy who played Anton in ep 3 sadly died in a skiing accident.

Thanks

I like that he is the way he is in part because of the things he had to do whilst being Konshu's avatar.

With Steven/mark/Jake those parts in the mind are separate, so Steven is innocent with no evil, mark stuck in the middle, then it seems, Jake tipping the balance the other way.

Being able to compartmentalise each personality has protected him.

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 23/04/2022 15:34

I'm sick in bed so just rewatched the last episode, and OMG, Temeret cheerfully swivelling her ears as she said "Hi!" absolutely killed me.

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 23/04/2022 15:36

Sorry, it is Taweret. I'm blaming that on the fever.

Mookie81 · 24/04/2022 23:34

His accent is deliberately shaky- part of playing an American with an English extra identity.

Really? Interesting. Apart from the general slight shakiness it's pretty good Estuary - "bruv", "frilled", glo'al stops all in the right places. (the only thing that's missing is "fam", but then I guess Steven doesn't have one.) And Steven's workmates have to accept him as a Londoner. Not bad for an American of Cuban-Guatemalan extraction.

Fml1980 · 27/04/2022 13:56

I love it, today's episode was very emotional.
I think Oscars acting is amazing and he plays Mark and Steven very well.
The last episode will need to pack a lot in which marvel love to do.

User237845 · 27/04/2022 14:39

Have been enjoying watching this with DS even though it's not something I'd normally watch. Have just had to catch up on episode 4 today on my own. I am very face blind. In this episode, the white middle aged man with the younger black man in the jungle in the adventure movie which Marc is watching in the all white hospital - the older man in the film isn't also Marc/Steven is it? I don't think so (because the hairline is different!) but can't tell for definite.Hmm

ermagerdabear · 27/04/2022 16:11

the older man in the film isn't also Marc/Steven is it?

No, it's not Marc or Steven. It's a tv show about an explorer and the character is called 'Steven Grant'. Not sure if it's real or not, but in the dream sequence where Marc is a patient in the asylum, 'Dr' Harrow says that where he's got the idea for his 'fantasy' life.

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 27/04/2022 21:47

Maaaaaaaan. Oscar absolutely killed it this week.

APurpleSquirrel · 27/04/2022 23:43

Just watched ep 5 - brilliant, but if next week's is the last ep, that's a hell of a lot of wrapping up to do!

iklboo · 28/04/2022 15:46

To quote Steven, 'Bloody Hell!'

That was a cracker wasn't it? I'm just the tiniest bit in love with Tawaret. It's the actress' first credited TV role as well. Can't wait for next week.
