Replacement for Romesh?

Really liked the first two episodes of the third series of The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan but it seems to have finished already.

Can anyone recommend an alternative travel or nature type documentary? Could be from any time in last decade or so Doesn't need to be funny.

I saw a bit of a Sue Perkins one and hated it. Think Simon Reeves is great but already seen them all. Also loved Art of Persia.

idiot abroad, travel man, michael palin around the world in 80 days

INeedtobealone · 27/03/2022 20:03

Alex Polizzi ones. She's done an Italy one and maybe Spain.

The series with Rob Bryson and Steve Coogan. I think they go to Italy too.

Ben Fogle - New Lives in the Wild

I liked the ones with Fred Sirieix albeit they were more food based.

HollyHocks13 · 27/03/2022 22:07

I'm m really enjoying the Stanley Tucci series on IPlayer at the moment. He travels around different parts of Italy - it is food based but very interesting and he comes across well.

Davros · 27/03/2022 22:27

Just about to say Stanley Tucci.
And yes to The Trip with Rob and Steve, there's a good few series.

SausagePourHomme · 27/03/2022 22:43

oh actually I've got a brilliant one - somebody feed phil on netflix, very lighthearted but entertaining

Travel man - Richard ayoade

JustDanceAddict · 28/03/2022 22:13

Travel man is restarting, but with Joe Lycett.

WeatherwaxOn · 28/03/2022 22:20

There's a programme with Susan Calman travelling around the UK in her camper van. I've only watched a few but loved her enthusiasm.

Mickey Flanagan Detour de France, think it's on Amazon Prime, came out a few years ago.

I will be giving that one a swerve personally

I really cringed at several parts of Romesh's journeys. In an attempt to be funny he made repeated stereotypical remarks that just came across as disrespectful. In Albania in particular he came across badly, I laughed out lot when his host was genuinely perplexed at him being a comedian as she really didn't find him funny.

There is a guy called Levison Wood who did a few travel shows, walking across vast areas of the world. They were on channel 4 so could be on catch up.

nancy75 · 28/03/2022 23:28

Gregg Wallace did some long weekends in Europe.
Greatest train journeys of the world (some amazing trains!)

AliasGrape · 28/03/2022 23:36

I’m placemarking to come back to this as I love a travel show. Big fan of Simon Reeve too.

Michael Portillo (yes I know) has done some on train journeys, I think there might be some on iplayer but if not they’re forever being rerun. I know they’re a world away from Romesh but they’re quite gentle and strangely comforting viewing!

Joel & Nish vs the World was quite funny, I think at least one season is now on Netflix

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/03/2022 23:39

Billy Connolly’s World Tours of various places - I love his enthusiasm for the places he visits.

Defiantly41 · 28/03/2022 23:48

The ones with Sandi Toksvig-Secret Escape or something like that

BattledoreAndShuttlecock · 29/03/2022 00:30

Not a celebrity led show but Race Across the World was great
