Absolutely love this show, and realise it follows a formula - “we stand by our decision” “ full payment on the nose, thank you” etc
But I’m wondering whether they are told to be so petty or are they unaware of how they are coming across
eg small amount of dust after running their fingers in a drawer, leads to low score and filthy comments
Obviously more examples, does anyone know someone who’s been on the programme ?

I want to see that episode now 😂

I’ve just cooked a fried egg, and immediately thought that will knock me down in points, as they don’t like fried eggs with crispy bits round the edges 🙈😂

My favourite episode was "The Very Famous Bob"

He's from Aberdeen, and he said he couldn't go anywhere without being recognised and people shouting Hi Bob! all the time.

Well, I'm also from Aberdeen, and he's not as famous as he thinks he is, even family who were in the hotel trade had never heard of him 😂

I've met Bob, he's a friend of a friend, and every time these episodes are on we watch them for the cringe factor. "We don't do beans Kirsty!"

@theladylovescupcakes

I haven't met Bob, but I still watch those episodes when they're on.

Kirsty!! 🤣🤣

I always go straight on Trip Advisor to see what people on there are saying about these places 😂 addicted me?

Ellmau · 21/04/2024 13:37

The first place always get offended by any negative comments and spends the rest of the week looking for flaws in other people's properties to mark down.

It's also not a good idea to be unkind in the comments if you're set to host last.

The way to win is to be nice to everyone in the feedback and then underpay...

People who talk about others gameplaying are inevitably doing it themselves.

This place the cheap place should have won because despite its flaws it was actually amazing value.

Bluevelvetsofa · 21/04/2024 15:06

I think the original premise of the show, which was to decide which place is the best value for money, was the right one. So you could have a luxury place that offered so much that most people would agree it was good value for money, or a much cheaper place that was run down, that, no matter how cheap, wouldn’t be good value for money.

It’s changed now to unscrewing the furniture and taking the beds apart is the norm and I agree that comparing a glamping site with a Manor House doesn’t make sense.

I always check who the current owners or managers are. There is a disproportionate number of change in ownerships since filming.

I watched one today where two contestants included Tom who ran a glamping site in
Wales and Maxine and her niece who ran a hotel called Greenhills (maybe Wales too). . Tom
was game playing from the start and underscored and underpaid everyone and Maxine seemed too emotional and probably should not have been selected to be on the show. Tom came out looking really badly and Maxine who said she couldn’t eat anything fatty for breakfast ordered sausages in another B&B.

It was great tv viewing though.
