Looking for a long running 'warm' series

I find myself needing to watch 30-60 mins of TV to unwind before bed.
I used to read but my eyes aren't what they used to be and they get too tired.

I don't have Netflix or the like at the moment, so I can't have a browse, but happy to pay for a subscription service.

I have loved:

Desperate housewives
Gilmore Girls
Gossip Girls
Mad men

That sort of thing is what I'm looking for.
I love period dramas too, but couldn't get into call the midwife or downtown abbey.

Anything with too much tension or jeopardy doesn't work - I need something gentle!

I'm ideally looking for lots of series to see me through to Christmas! Smile

Outlander?

LadyMacduff · 01/03/2022 22:20

I love This Is Us but you may find it a bit emotional before bed (I do!)

The OC is along similar lines to Gossip Girl etc.

Allmyfavouritepeople · 01/03/2022 22:23

White Collar - a great gentle US detective drama with a master forger as his partner. Light, funny and interesting enough to wind down with.

magicstars · 01/03/2022 22:24

Grace & Frankie on Netflix
Big Bang theory

TeaMeBasil · 01/03/2022 22:24

Another vote for Marvellous Mrs Maisel if you have prime

MrsMigginsCat · 01/03/2022 22:25

A Place to Call Home - Aus drama set in the 50s/60s.

Mrsjayy · 01/03/2022 22:26

Schitts creek was on the ch4 player that's where we watched it it's a delight.

Father Brown is one of those daytime programmes its very gentle and only mild bbc1 peril Grin

Mrsjayy · 01/03/2022 22:27

I also like a place to call home.

Fennellathewitch · 01/03/2022 22:28

A Place to call home, Australian mini saga 6 series. An excellent drama but cosy and warm at the same time.

WestW7 · 01/03/2022 22:28

Jane the Virgin was my unwind show. Funny and warmhearted. Perfect for bedtime.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 01/03/2022 22:28

I feel the same as you and often need to switch off with 30 mins of TV.

Definitely watch Detectorists! I saw it recommended on here so much and I loved it.

Second Motherland. I’m currently rewatching it in that ‘before bed unwinding slot’ and I find it so funny.

If you like Desperate Housewives - check out Why Women kill.

Never have I Ever.
Ghosts
sex education

Merrilymerrilymerrily · 01/03/2022 22:30

This is us.
Schitts creek (seems like a one joke show at the start, but the characters grow on you)
Grays Anatomy
Sex education
The Outlaws (although not that many episodes)
The Kominsky Method
The Good Place

Confusedteacher · 01/03/2022 22:30

Parenthood! Started watching it with my 11 and 13 year olds to fill the gap left by Gilmore Girls, it definitely does the trick! It has Lorelai from Gilmore Girls and also Nate from 6 Feet Under, if you remember that?

Also, Modern Family- it’s brilliant 😊

MrsJaneyLloydFoxe · 01/03/2022 22:32
