Season (series) four dropped on Prime last night and I watched the first episode. It was fab. Did anyone else see it?

We thought the same about Ethan - he looked far too old to be 5!

BlueBlueCowWondering · 23/02/2022 12:14

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

I didn't even notice the child playing Ethan. He wasn't wearing a lovely frock, I suppose.
Grin So glad Miriam has continued with her amazing clothes
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 23/02/2022 12:17

And her mother, I drool over all of her mother's wardrobe.

I watched an old episode last night, the one where Miriam wafts in a hotel, when they are on court, in a silk dress with a cape. Now that was an entrance.

BadPlaceJanet · 23/02/2022 12:55

The sets and costumes and cinematography are so beautiful in this. I find the dialogue a bit much sometimes (I know it's their trademark, and I like it sometimes, but why would you go to a day out at a fairground to have a shouted discussion about your finances on a Ferris wheel?) but I guess I have a lot of goodwill towards the show, cos I still enjoy it.

AnnesBrokenSlate · 23/02/2022 13:29

I feel like I hate watch it. I love the clothes, the parents, the in-laws and Susie but there's something about the main character that grates on me. It may just be the Gilmore Girls' quirkiness as a PP said. Or the fact that I've never been convinced of the transformation from housewife to comic.
But I can't wait till Milo arrives. Wink

DuchessAndThePea · 23/02/2022 13:37

I really enjoy this show. The fashions, the go-getting women, the snappy dialogue, etc. Her crazy Jewish family reminds me of my crazy Jewish family on steroids! Such a joy to watch an intelligent, quirky show. It looks like their budget increased a lot this season. From the two episodes I've viewed so far, there are a lot of extras and wide shots with great cars and buildings. Long may this continue (or at least, until the end of season 5)!

@PumpkinCrumble

Love this show! But then I also loved Gilmore Girls! Sad to hear it’s ending after season 5, but then some shows do drag on too long.

The only thing that annoys me is the fact that Suzie is quite obviously a dyke but it’s never addressed and I can’t see it being with only one season left…glad she’s getting a storyline with her sister now though!

Can’t wait to see Kelly Bishop!

Unless I'm missing something, I don't think Suzie's sexuality needs to be a storyline? I mean, why does her sexuality need to be addressed when we all know? Wasn't this how people did things in 50's/60's never addressed issues directly and swept things under the carpet?
NurseButtercup · 23/02/2022 17:35

I read somewhere that Amazon will be releasing two episodes each week.

I feel like I hate watch it. When did "hate watching" become a thing? And what a pointless use of your time. Surely you want to spend your leisure time enjoying what you're watching? Otherwise switch off or watch something else?

I'm acknowledging with this response that I'm getting old & out of touch LoL

SoupDragon · 23/02/2022 17:42

@PumpkinCrumble WTF? Why would you use that term?

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 23/02/2022 17:51
@PumpkinCrumble WTF? Why would you use that term?
Maybe she is one?
Lots of lesbians call themselves dykes. It's not a word I'd use but it's not inherently offensive.

PumpkinCrumble · 23/02/2022 18:43

I’ve had my post removed. But I used the term because that is what Suzie has been specifically styled as (as least in the first season), see D**kes on Bikes etc.

It just seems squeamish on the part of the Sherman-Palladino to not acknowledge this aspect of Suzie’s character, especially given the storyline dedicated to Shy’s homosexuality. With Suzie and Midge, there would be a symmetry with Shy and his manager (Sterling K Brown’s character), except the roles would be reversed.

AnnesBrokenSlate · 23/02/2022 22:52

@NurseButtercup I explained why I watch it -
I love the clothes, the parents, the in-laws and Susie but there's something about the main character that grates on me
Since a lot of the episodes are more focused on other characters, it balances out. When it's an episode leaning heavily on the main character then I don't enjoy it as much.

XiCi · 24/02/2022 16:01

I've come to this quite late so got to binge the first 3 series just before this new one started. I love it, such brilliant characters. I'd just like to see more more more Lenny Bruce 😍

I loved the other series but finding this a bit annoying at times, I hated the Ferris wheel scene. It seemed a bit like a play. Finding Mrs Maisel herself grating and too much.
SirChenjins · 25/02/2022 15:29

I love it for all the reasons already given. Susie is the perfect curmudgeonly balance to the whole bouncy, ditziness of the rest of the cast and I really hope they develop her character. The only ones I can’t get on with are Joel and his new GF - both terrible actors with no chemistry whatsoever.

BadPlaceJanet · 25/02/2022 15:58

Oh, yes. THAT episode last season Blush

Ha I know what you mean..I must part enjoy it as I keep watching but I do find it quite annoying at the same time
BadPlaceJanet · 01/03/2022 13:21

Thought the scene at the funeral service was really well done - writing and acting. I can put up with the annoying bits of the show if I get brilliant scenes like that.

EachandEveryone · 02/03/2022 22:26

Well Susies sexuality was explored this week and I felt for her really. What a view from her new office 😃

Gooseysgirl · 07/03/2022 04:09

Agree with PP regarding Joel and Mei, very very annoying in Ep 5 & 6.

EachandEveryone · 08/03/2022 00:29

Im not feeling it so much this season I have to admit

vjg13 · 08/03/2022 07:37

I loved it previously but am finding it annoying now, I find the dialogue grating on me.

dayswithaY · 08/03/2022 07:47

I thought they sort of alluded to Suzy's sexuality a couple of times. Once in a conversation with Midge and I feel like there was some kind of nod to it between Suzy and Shy's manager.
