Our Girl Thread 63 "Our Girl Revisited and then what?"

We started to follow "Our Girl" back in 2014 and although there will be no further series, we do revisit from time to time. We have watched all seven series of "Soldier Soldier" to keep up our military terminology and galloped through three series of "The Musketeers". Of course, there is a definite connection between "Our Girl" and "The Musketeers" in the delightful form of Luke Pasqualino. We are now revisiting series 2 of Our Girl and are trying to decide what to watch after that.

How can she go off to Syria. She's already finished and left the army. That party was supposed to be her last day.

Meanwhile she uses her honeymoon to go back to Kenya. Watch out world!

Ilovelblue · 02/03/2022 21:57

So....? What are we doing next week?

Yes that ending caused a lot of confusion. Suddenly she can be back in the army and just needs to take a quick trip to Kenya using her hpneymoonbtime

I disagree. I reckon they had both been through enough separately and together to knock the corners off. And certainly he seems to have far greater insight and understanding about her than Dr Dull and her family ever show. I reckon if he hadn’t got shot, they would have made it, They would have fallen out from time to time, but nothing serious, once she’d learned to trust him again.

Magi84 · 02/03/2022 22:04

I thought series 3 might have started with that scenario eejit but it seems the powers that be directing Our Girl didn't fancy doing a series with a couple who'd actually tied the knot. Still don't think they need to kill off Elvis justclet him always be away on missions

As for next week my vote goes tossers 4

Magi84 · 02/03/2022 22:06

Series 4. No tossers involved or maybe that was a Freudian slip

Ilovelblue · 02/03/2022 22:09

That made me laugh Magi! I'm up for series 4 and we can use the time to decide what we want to view next.

Magi Grin

Rhubarb01 · 02/03/2022 22:13

Series 4 is ok by me.

eejittwo · 02/03/2022 22:52

Magi, I think they could have kept most of the story arc of Nepal tour by having a brief chat between E and G at the beginning, with G saying, understandably, that she needed to ge her head straight this time, before making any life-changing decisions. Then the Syria rescue could have gone ahead with slightly less sniping on her part but with her saying in the end of mission chat that she needs more time. E then goes off to Cyprus and snogs (!) Maisie. Then he goes off in his next hush-hush posting and first Georgie knows where he’s been is when he turns up in Kathmandu, by which time she knows all about the Maisie episode and is feeling a tad guilty about the Milan episode, but is not above playing him along in sight of E’s departing wing mirror.
At the same time, she’s now worried that she has left it too long and has screwed up, so she’s back to shooting first and identifying second. Still didn’t need to kill him - at worst a life-threatening injury, but he could have been at the end of a phone as he was in the last two episodes of series 2. It’s stupid that they had that all set up and didn’t use it properly.

Yes eejit there are all sorts of better ways the scriptwriters, or whoever decides these things, could have gone with the story. I know they have all sorts of changes to cater for such as actors not being available etc but why take the lazy way out and just majorly change the rhythm of the whole concept. Lacey Turner not being available changed many things I know but having established MK as the new lead they could have continued just mentioning Molly off being brilliant and then similarly with Elvis. No need to then try to force a relationship between Georgie and CJ which was cringeworthy really as it just didn't fit. Just following the idea that the male and female leads must alway end up in bed together. Also why introduce Bones and then kill him off. It was so badly handled that anybody could see it was a sudden change of script. It does seem a shame that they had a budget for 12 episodes and that was the series which was so badly handled.

Still having said all that it obviously had some impact as here we are still trying to sort it out nearly 5 years later😂

Ladies, my secret guilty pleasure (other than being on here of course) is to watch Doctors at lunchtime. Utter rubbish but still watch it! Who should turn up on it today but Dr Sadie from Soldier Soldier. It was her voice I recognised first then her teeth!

Oh, to have the freedom to watch tv at lunchtime! But Grin to Dr Sadie

eejittwo · 09/03/2022 18:16

So, is it series 4?

Ilovelblue · 09/03/2022 19:48

It is eejit. I've just set up the recorder as I kept the series on there.

A sombre start to the new series.

Georgie's Nan doesn't exactly look like your average grandma, does she?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 09/03/2022 21:01

Opens with evidence of a something explosive. Here we are now back in Manchester - blimey yet another wedding and Nan's knickers on show.

Rhubarb01 · 09/03/2022 21:03

Kingy in an awful pink suit.

Ilovelblue · 09/03/2022 21:03

Kingy's wife doesn't look like I expected.

Monk's girlfriend looks a handful!

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 09/03/2022 21:03

So this is the third wedding the Lanes have shelled out for. At least we know this one goes ahead.

Rhubarb01 · 09/03/2022 21:04

I agree Mrs Kingy - who'd manage that lot.
